Title: Official Announcement - Rendezvous 2011
Post by: DeadBishop on May 10, 2010, 12:48:56 PM
It is with great cheer and enthusiasm that today I announce the location for Renaissancefestival.com's 2011 Rendezvous!

And the location is...

Colorado Renaissance Festival!

John and myself discussed many great locations that have yet to host Rendezvous, and after much consideration, we decided upon CORF.  We have a great team of R/F.com members ready to take the reins for the planning of our next great get together!

Heading up the planning and organization will be Blushing (http://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=31)!

Well, my wife and  shan't be able to get to Colorado on a business trip (which was the only reason we were able to get to Scarby this year), and driving from Florida would be a bit far.

But we have more than a year to save up for the flights!

HUZZAH A RenDevous I can easily make and will make. You'll all not regret having it at Colorado as it is a wonderful faire. Just bring good shoes and be prepared to walk up mountain slopes all day long. Oh and Oxygen is a plus as well.

As for 6:30? Actually if you get to the site at 8:30 you get the best parking in the place. Any earlier and you may need to find something to keep you warm.

Blushing is our lead here At CRF. She will be assisted by many that we will have in place to coordinate various events:

Hotels/camping
Pre activities and tourist attractions for those who may consider a combo vacation as Colorado has many wonderous and beautiful areas and things to do.
Friday night Meet N Greet
Tailgate
Group Picture/s
Phone numbers of some of us for out of towners who need assistance during their stay (just don't call us if you need bailed out) well ok call us, but we may just laugh at your jailed arses!
Musical Men Coordination
Possible private/staging areas for Rendezvous-ites
Possible Parade participation
Saturday group dinner
Etc.....
All of this will be in Sticky Threads to follow in the future

It is our intention to make this a great Rendezvous and as easy as possible for everyone to attend.

We have 13-14 months to prepare for this one, so plenty of time.

Look forward to seeing all who venture out West!
In 2011..... Come West Young Rendezvous-Re-Newbie-anites

I am excited by this choice. Colorado is one of the faires that is on my list of faires to see at some point. Several friends are going this year but due to my own scheduling I cannot make it (that and buying a house kills my extra travel budget lol).
There stands a very good chance that with this much time to plan I may be able to do it next year.
Someone needs to get a wheelbarrow to haul my arse up that mountain though...

*and rum... a wheelbarrow for my rum would help too*

And this faire will be totally do-able as I've got family in the Springs and in Castle Rock!

OK, so I'll actually start saving for Colorado after I pay for a new transmission for the car that carried me faithfully to Scarby and back to Florida ... then broke down. I suppose after that (and 105,000 otherwise trouble-free miles) it deserves a new transmission. But -- wow -- my wife and I could go to CRF on what that's costing.

Those of us who don't have a place to stay, or who are not so near or dear....would love to see what other options there are. I recall making a half hearted plan a few years back and there being a campground nearby, and a cluster of hotels, but I don't recall the particulars.

Yes there is a KOA campground less than 5 minutes north of the faire right off I-25. There are also many hotels now in Castle Rock which is less than 15 minutes north. Colorado Springs is about 15 or so minutes south with hotels as well. Then South Denver is about 30 minutes north with tons of hotels

The Bayou Scoundrels are making the trip this year and will be scoping things out for a possible return next year.
3 weeks, the RV and motorcycles to explore and enjoy the sights.
We are planning on staying at the Jellystone park as of now.
So please look for us,the flat landers having trouble walking on non level ground.
The biggest hills here(mountains) are the levee's.

Not that I would have started giving thought to plans of that sort. I am not that devious.

Hmmm accomplices ... I like your thoughts on this ... workable ...

I am thinking for tailgate, a gaggle of midget police, lady Godiva scantly clad on horseback, a concoction of Single Malt Scotch & lighter fluid & pickle juice & embalming fluid, the corpse of Edger Allen Poe (or other famous person ... maybe Bruce Lee), a contestant from Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the entire cast of Ghostbusters, and beer.

Just have some minor details to work out, but should have it all put together by the end of lunch.

Also have a call back pending with Gary Coleman ... if he falls through I may go to  my fall back of Michael Jackson.

What? Dead? Crap, why am I never told of these things.

Indeed, something to consider ... I am still prone to sheep, but a donkey may work considering the Texans that are likely to come.

Would also like to see if we can contract:

One-legged under-weight female Sumo wrestler
A blind mime
Hope to invite an Alaskan redneck
A gangster Medieval rapper

Still working on a couple other things but I believe we are on to something here.

Salutations all!  I'm sorry I didn't post sooner, but I really wasn't hiding!  I was venturing back from my other home faire in California.

I am so very glad that everyone is so very excited about Rendezvous at the Colorado faire!  We are beyond thrilled to host it (the hamsters are excited too), and since we have just over a year to plan, it should be an event to remember.  =)

The Colorado Renaissance Festival is a wonderful place, and Colorado offers endless adventures outside of faire's gates, as well.

We probably won't be posting many details and such until the end of summer/start of fall.  We have this season to get through, and we will be laying the ground work for Rendevous.

Feel free to renmail or e-mail me with any questions and what not.

I have a proposal...since Rendezvous in Colorado is in 2011, we should have a pre-Rendezvous this summer just to scope out the place! :D

This way Scotsman could test a few of his theories anyway.

I can't wait to see all these hard drinking rennies stumbling around after 2-3 ales in the altitude there!  It's really interesting to see how people who live at, or near, sea level try to drink like they usually do, at 5k ft...  :D  People don't realize how altitude affects alcohol in the blood, and it surprises them every time.  Of course, it could cut a few drinking bills in half!!!  :P  heheh

It won't be a herd of Pink Flamingo's but given enough time I may be able to talk the other Flamingo brother into joining this Rendevous. If you think one Pink Pirate is bad, wait till you add his brother.   ::)

Also drinking at this altitude couple with the 90+ degree temps we can have, makes for some very drunk rennies and sick ones to boot. Sadly CoRF is sponcered by Coors and NOT New Belgium. Sure wish they would get good beer like New Belgium instead of that other crap they call beer.

For those not familier with new belgium it is a premier Micro Brew in Ft Collins (less than 2 hours north in Ft Collins) They offer free beer Tue-Sat from 10 am to 5 with 2 - 3 samples of any beer they have. They are rated 1 of the top 5 brewey's in the country and their brewmaster is from Belgium. They also sell their beer there and some you cannot get anyplace else but there.

As Blushing stated Pikes Peak. Don't forget Bishops Castle in Wetmore (South and west of Pueblo) it is a one man project to build a castle. it has been featured on TV many times and is open FREE every day of the year. But be warned Jim Bishop is a fire breathing man who REALLY Hates the Government.

There is also Rocky Mountain national park which is BEAUTIFUL. This sits on the west end of Estes Park Home of the Stanley Hotel which Ghost Hunters have been to multipule times and it is in fact haunted. Steven King wrote the Shining there.

Oh and Baron says uphill he means mostly uphill as the jousting arena sits at the lowest point so it's all up hill from there and Puke and Snot are on the high end but once you leave Puke and Snot's stage you still have to walk up hill a tiny bit on your way down to the jousting arena. The front gate is the level spot. So if it sits at 6900 feet, the Puke and Snot stage sits at about 7200 feet there abouts and the jousting arena is around 6600 feet there abouts and the main food court at 7000 give or take a few.

If anyone wants an idea of what the place looks like, you can go to http://www.delaneyalysa.com (http://www.delaneyalysa.com) or to http://www.pbase.com/delaneyalysa (http://www.pbase.com/delaneyalysa) This will give you an idea of what it kind of looks like.

So there are MANY places to visit in Colorado, some near to faire, some not so near, and some that MAY be on your way to or from.

Whilst at the faire last summer, it seemed no matter which direction, it was ALWAYS uphill.  The only saving grace was when the faire was closing, it was easy to sort of 'funnel' the way to the front gate.

So it was the altitude that caused my unsteadiness, not the 20+ beers?  :P

Funny, I lived in AZ, near the mountains for a year or two, and did alot of hiking. When I moved from there to sea level Florida I couldn't believe what lung power I had by comparison! I was running all over the place. I haven't been back to those kinds of elevations since, but I expect I'll be in for a surprise first hill I try to take in a tightly laced corset.

alright, Don't be scared. it's not really as bad as we like to make it sound. I would recommend, if possible, arriving a day or 2 early to acclimate, but if not, you'll still be OK.  It's technically alpine desert. about as high as the mountains in CA (lower than Donner Pass). and it's VERY dry.  drink lots of water leading up to and during your visit. I have been to Scarby, and was way more miserable with the heat there than I ever have been here (humid there, ye know). although the site is steep, if you keep to the paths, and take a right hand circut, the inclines themselves are not that bad. move slow and keep to the shade.  more detail on good paths and routes later.  and yes, the site is wheelchair accessable. it's a bit challenging, and you gotta be careful, it's do-able.

the site, although as technically "large" as scarby by number of booths, it covers much less acerage. my guess would be 1/2 to 1/3 the acerage. so there is really less walking and it's easier to find your way around. again, move slow and keep to the shade. it's easy if you are not in a hurry to get somewhere, leisurely shopping and catching some shows.  (for those of us who frequently need to cross site in 5 min or less, THAT is murder.)

drinking, well, just pace yourselves. remember what I said about being dry, and know that booze dehydrates you. so have an ale, and a water, and so on. be aware of your buzz and don't pound down your beverages. eat alot.

the site is BEAUTIFUL!  it is really on a mountainside, and surrounded by pine forest.  with a mountain looming above us.  a good time is guaranteed.

Cheers!

We hiked around in Yosemite a couple years back with no problems, Mount Washington, NH the year before (wintertime with snow...didn't do any real high stuff). They're not as high as Castle Rock, as I understand it. But, I'm more susceptible to heat and humidity myself, and I'm usually able to handle Scarby without too much trouble. I think we can make it work! I'm excited! ... We're excited!

Colorado humidity is not what Texas has even at Texas' lowest to Colorado's highest ratio.

And heat can very, with temps in the 50's to the high 90's typically. We get rainy days and we get overcast days. What gets people is the sun and the intensity as you are closer and sunburns happen and can be bad. head stroke and heat exhaustion also happen so it is wise to drink LOTS of good liquids and I don't mean Beer and Wine.

We are DEFINITELY not trying to dissuade anyone from coming to Colorado for the Rendezvous.  Quite the contrary.  I trust that all of we locals would agree that we're looking forward to as big a turnout as possible.  However, the elevation, terrain and low humidity do pose hazards to the unaware.  Fortunately, all of these can be easily dealt with with a little foreknowledge and caution.

Any of you with pre-existing heart, lung or blood conditions that would make minor hypoxia dangerous should check with your physicians before the trip.  All others, simply heed the advise provided by Hey, Aren't You, which I think is right on target.

Maybe we can ask the faire to put up some safety nets for our sakes. In case there's an unexpected avalanche of rennies falling from above due to inclement drinking.  :D

Baron, sorry if my thoughts added to anyone thinking it might be undoable.  In truth, I look forward to seeing the mountains again and all that lovely dry air. You want rough faire conditions try ours here in the warmer months. I about passed out one year just standing still from the heat and humidity and I am no delicate flower!

Delaney, thanks for the warning of sunburn. I'd forgotten that in high altitude thing, and that is for sure the one thing I will forget to do.

Um, it's a tudorISH fantasy faire, so there are splashes of Eliz & Medi thrown in, and theres a bllody lot o pirates too. so we have a "Goode king Henry" and a "Faire Queen Anne".... the H.A. aspect is pretty lax, but not completely forgotten.

OH there is also a contingent of barbarians "The Horde" that frequent. They are also some of the lot of pirates that attend.

You find the court dresses are mainly Noblise Oblige gowns. Some of the women do have their own and as Hey said it's a mish mash Tudor/Fantasy/Elizabethan/Medieval

I tend to mix a cross of both as I have both styles of dresses and Toki's dress tends to be far more Elizabethan. SO no matter how you dress if it's Renn style, you will fit in. So yes Anna your TudorishMedievalElizabethanPirateBellydancer

Our little faire is not so HA even the Henry and Anne tend to be a little off Historical as is the court, but they are a fine court and do a great job.

Your Welcome Anna, I know how it feels to have my breast area sunburned... NOT FUN. It's the only area that I get burned on. OH And always be prepared for rain. We do have a vender that sells water proof umbrellas

Beer: yes Coors products But they do serve Killians which is a cut above the typical Coors but I believe it is a few pence more. I also believe they have cider which i got to sample last year abd I must say it was quite good and had a little kick. But then again I am not much of a drinker and it affects me quickly

I'm not sure, Renee.  In Larkspurshire, you will definitely be further from the earth's center of gravity, and therefore should weigh a few micrograms less.  On the other hand, the air is thinner and therefore would provide less boyancy, thereby making you a bit heavier.  Is there a physicist in the house?

If anyone needs a push down the mountain at any time, just stop at my booth and I'll give you a good roll - from there, you'll end up right at the gates.  So line up at the end of the day and I'll help you get out....

We would love to come dependent upon the date... what weekends/months does Colorado run?  When will the date be selected?

As you can see I am a bit excited about this:)!

Lupa,
CoRF runs 8 weekends (no three day weekend during the 4th of July), and is from mid June thru  last weekend of July.

We are not certain how dates will be picked. (voted or chosen for us)
This was discussed in our first Rendezvous 2011 organization meeting this past Sunday.

I would suggest the best weekend to be one of the two weekends after 4th of July, (Which lands on a Monday) 2011. Those dates would be either 16 - 17 or 23 - 24.

My reasoning is that in June kids are still in School, and then graduation parties are popular in  that month also.

I'm sure everyone will have a take on their best times to attend, as has always been the case in past Rendezvous date choosing.

My vote be wine tasting weekend. Sorry this Portuguess pirate likes a good port over rum. Plus the visiting people can taste a few of the local wines that way.

Oh and if people are making a weeks vaca for it may i recomend Redstone Meadery in boulder, its a free tour and tasting.

While everyone will also have a favorite themed type weekend, we'll not know the themed weekend schedule until sometime next year. Too late for planning Rendezvous 2011.

Sir Garath. Being from here, you can attend anytime you want. But those traveling from afar, may have their needs dictated by the date rather than by the theme.

The planning committee asks that everyone be patient, as we want to have our Faire year 2010 (and while enjoying it, we can case the grounds for meeting areas, photo ops, and other activities).
THen we will have all of the organizers weigh in, regarding all the activities that we are planning to make this as successful  a Rendezvous for all involved.

We were planning on having this completed by the end of October 2010 ( after the kids are back in school, Labor Day festivities are over, and a date has been set). Mind you, we will be working on this diligently AFTER CoRF 2010, starting in August., and yet, planning all along while at faire this year too.

This logic is very sound. The date is pivotal for those coming from afar. I am sure the themes are great but as I have experienced in these invasions - we create our own themes!

The Pink Pirate and I had an idea about accomendations.

Also we were thinking it would be cool to caravan from the DFW area up to the Rendevous, if there are enough people going from around here.  It would make for a lot of fun.

Lady Stitch, I wouldn't mind getting in that line from OKC, if you'll be heading up here on your way.  Have you chosen a route yet?  We usually go up through the OK panhandle when we head to CO, so it's mostly little towns and back roads, but if you have another route mapped out I'd be willing to go along.

We'll probably be camping most of the time we're there, since there are lots of free primitive camping spots in the Natl. Forests, and we never take anything that needs to be plugged in anyway.  We want to camp in Patrons camping during Faire, though, so we can be a bit more social than if we were staying in a hotel somewhere.

A caravan sounds wonderful, stopping and picking up more as we go!

We just made the roadtrip from DFW to Larkspur last weekend. Going up, we left Thursday night and went up I-35 (convenient for picking up Rani in OKC!) and stopped in Blackwell OK for the night. Then up through Kansas on Friday, taking a left, and watching the amber waves of grain as we zipped through. Our GPS took us on two scenic detours - just north of Wichita to get from I-35 to I-70 then off of I-70 to Hwy 86, taking us into Castle Rock. We stayed at the Best Western in Castle Rock, which was a nice hotel, decent price, and right next to 2 restaurants and a liquor store! :D Alas, we do not camp.

That route was about 12.5 hours of driving. We live near DFW Airport. We drove home CO > NM > TX on some VERY scenic and remote territory, mainly on 287 through Texas. That was about 11.5 hours, and we did it in one day without a stopover. If you were looking for a stop over point, the CO > KS > OK > TX route would be much better as there are more towns and cities!

Vote YES for the TX caravan, LOL!

We might want to join the caravan at OKC as well (or north of OKC, if the caravan is heading toward Wichita)...all depends on dates. We'll be coming up from central Arkansas. I haven't seen that the dates for Rendezvous have been set, or did I miss it? I'm hoping nothing goes haywire between now and then!

The other Flamingo needs to put in his leave  6 months in advance, and the earlier the better.  We are going to drag his sorry backside with us up to Rendevous.  He is kicking himself that he missed this years.  If I thought the Pink Pirate was trouble by himself, I'll have TWO of them next year!
