What is your favorite Scarby memory?
Standing on the side of parade, dressed up in newly purchased Musketeer tabard and Chapeau and the Captain of the Musketeers comes and drags me into parade. I looked at my wife with a "what the heck" look and wondered if I would see her again.... ;D Up until that point I was unaware of how the faire worked and how playtrons participate with the cast and others at faire. This really made my day and started a wonderful experience for me and my entire family at Scarborough for the past 6 years. We now consider most of the playtrons and cast friends and family and miss them terribly when the faire is over each year.
One of my favourite memories is having my picture taken with Queen Margaret! I have the most ridiculous looking grin on my face...
Closing Day 2009.
I can't pick just one so here's a few:
-Last year Doktor Kaboom taught my DS a gesture that's the same as a middle finger in Europe (no, not the backwards peace sign). DS then freaked out DK by using it towards a guy DK told him to. I've never seen such a look on DKs face!
-A few years ago DD got a red dress that looked vaguely Court-like. She wore it to Scarby the same weekend that Queen Anne wore a red dress. While watching the parade QA noticed DD & leaned over & said 'I love your fashion sense'. She later agreed to have her picture taken with DD in their 'matching' garb.
Memorial Day 2007. After the big event at Scottish Court I went to my car to put up my armour. Then the rain came. Mundanes headed for the gate and out of the lot. I walked back to the Pecan Grove and it was magical. The rain stopped and all of who were left came out to play.
First time hearing Queen Anne's Lace sing "Black is the Colour (Of My True Love's Hair)", back in 1996 or 1997.
Take Care,
David Baldock
As I was really only there for one weekend- My favorite memories (yes, there are two)
Being taught proper wooing by The King of the Gypsies and one of the Boleyn Gents.... That was amusing!!!
Court Dancing.... That was a blast too
Also, having the chance to meet such fine men and women in the whole of Scarborough. They truly raised the bar on the start of my season and I can't wait to see them all next year!!!!
In no particular order:
Huddling up against the back wall of the LadyHawke stage with Iris, Rose, their helpers and the other 5 audience members while it sleeted.
Queen Margaret stepping away just before Scottish Court to compliment me on my gold brocade dress.
Opening Day 2008? walking around in the snow greeting everyone with Feliz Navidad and turning frowns to smiles.
Sitting in the Flaming Idiot's show very first thing and listening to him complain that his only audience was someone who worked there (me LOL).
Listening to Donal Hinely playing in Holly Field and the cardinals came up and filled the trees around him while he played 'Scarborough faire'
Coming up from Archangel Crossing covered in butterflies (moths?) and passing them from hand to hand while they drank water off my fingertips.
Favorite Scarby memory??? Got a TON of 'em! I'll limit it to just a few...that are suitable for the general public (this ain't John's Inn doncha know?)
Who can forget the SNOW day on opening day at Scarby a few years ago?

All my times going to Scarby with my dear Lord Ambrosius. He loved Scarby so much. He is with me when I am there. He was feeling so horrible each weekend- but wanted to go.
I thank all my photographer friends who saved our moments at faire in pictures! They mean a lot to me. Scarby has so many happy memories.
There are so many... Here are 6...
... Spookey curtsying 'til her forehead touched the ground the first time she met Queen Anne (at age 5)
...Spookey insisting I turn the truck around and go back to "save her Queen" when she found out Henry was going to behead Anne in a few years (that same first time)
...Randy Wathke playing a drum solo on Sister Mary McNugget's breasticles
...Spookey leaping through the air to be caught and hugged by Mayhem
... The first time a "Dane" asked me to pose in garb ( whaaa.... who... ME??!!)
...Janna trying but failing to keep it together the first time Sister Mary came to Court
Last weekend. I was busy taking pictures near the end, my eye glued to the view finder, when I became aware of people being around me. I took a look to my left and practically at my shoulder was ........................ Anne Boleyn! I had been over runned by the Royal Party!
With an "OOOOPS! Excuse me!", I moved out of there and took up a new shooting position.
Opening day when it snowed all day, 2007 i believe. The beer just kept getting colder instead of hotter all day with the ice floating in it.
Memorial day 2007 the day that the monsoons hit Scarby, I remember trying to run through the rain in pecan grove and the water was above my ankles.
Of course I have to add the first time that I marched with the QoH, marching in front of throngs of onlookers and trying not to grin at the wench line.
The invasion of the Brown Snout butterflys, they were EVERYWHERE. I kept giving them wine from my mug and they wouldnt stop following me.
and waaaaay too many more to list or remember......
