Hi all,
Since being given a favor at RenDezvous (actually I got several but never realized it) I decided to make a display. I believe some called it a "brag rag."
My wife made a quick one out of black duck -

Hows it look?
Drac
Nice ;D
Looks like you have a clan badge there on the right...I don't recognize the symbol though. Could it be...clan McTalktothehand?
Just kidding (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2493/3841295390_1818d302f8_o.gif)

It's Lamont. A friend carved it for me.

Not sure what other clans or Rennies call them but here with the Bayou Scoundrels, we call them Favor Savers.
Looks very nice Drac
Turned out nice! :)
Been thinking about making one myself!
I've not seen the AFRICOM pin before. Very cool.
I'm working on this year's favors and having a bit of difficulty making my vision reality. Looks like practice will make perfect...eventually.
Very nice!!
Now that I'm actually meeting people, I might have to put some favors together (I suppose bookmarks of my new book don't count, do they? ;D).
Forgive me if this question should be asked somewhere else. How exactly do favors work?
Out here in AZ the favor is just a small token of friendship, often handmade but not always.
Two years ago I misplaced my hat-I wasn't upset at the loss of the hat-but I was enraged at the loss of the favors I had placed in the hatband.
One of the crew found it and returned it to me-
A favor is something that you make yourself that you can give to fellow rennies as a friendship type token,(at least this is what I was told). If you would like to see what other people have made check out the Craft section of the forum there is about 10-14 pages full there. Here is the link.

OK, thanks :)
They seem to be a bit of a regional thing. They've never been as big at MNRF as some of the other fairs until recently.

Wow! I got my first favor ever (I had never heard of them) when I visited all of you in MN in 2007.
is there a set "favor etiquette"?
We Castleteers tend to make up a bag o' little things, usually w/ pins attached. Carry the bag to events, and if you've seen a person before, you like a person you see, or you wish everyone attending the event to remember the event, (Think wedding table favors, Girl Scout swaps, R/F pins) you hand them over with a smile and a "Would you like one of my favors?"
Accept with grace, and pin them to the brag rag, favor saver. Then if you see another of the same favor on someone else, you know them to know someone you know...
There are levels of favors... A pyratical friend makes up little tiny bottles with her name inside, and for special folk, she makes up tiny bottles with RUM!
If I can swing it, I think I would very much like to start giving out favors this year at TRF :)
I too had never heard of these before. I am definatly going to make a few.
I also wonder if at some fairs it's been more of a participant's thing vs a playtron thing, or verse visa.

Me too, I think it's a brilliant idea and I shall try it out there as well this season :)
We'll have to exchange favors, then :)
Deal!
I have mine on a suede leather brag rag. Tricky to put favors onto, but made by a dear friend
I agree this might be regional . . . or perhaps they were only pretending to like me in Florida and savin' the favors for somebody else . . . but howe'er it is, I thank those who bravely asked and kindly answered about the etiquette!
I just bought bead wire and sparklies so I could offer friendship tokens at my new home faire this season. I'd better get beading, get busy, and quit typing!
I have finally started making favors (after years of saying I was going to) should have enough ready to hand out at TRF this year!! Now...to make a better brag rag...
I knew about favors, but I didn't know anyone well enough to trade with. With Rendvouz, the Pink Pirate made a bunch. We make special ones for special friends, but we make nice general one's.
It is a token of friendship to someone.
Heh, the pirate got the bug to make more and better one's for TRF this year. Got a great deal on the buttons this past weekend. :)
I finished mine today...simple.....but nice, I think :)
And....I have learned how to post a picture here....

Be well all..
A xo
I've gotten LOTS of favors over the years.
I made a nice long band of fabric no bigger than a belt width that I can attach to my belt with all the favors pinned on.
Arianwyn, those are beautiful!

Thanks Tink...I just had so many beads around....was nice to see them put to good use. And was even better to keep my hands and mind busy, it's been too long.
Very lovely, Arianwyn. :) I hope there will be one for me, should I chance to make it up to one of the Faire's you attend, someday...

Well, you will have a warm welcome,
and a place to stay, when you do! :)
I have two favor sashes. One for heavy pins, and one for light favors. I'm going to need a third here pretty soon. I guess I get around LOL!

Well, in Ohio, it seems to be playtron.
There are lots of crossovers between playtrons & participants, of course, but after photos, hugs & huzzahs, there isn't much time until the actors are back to work. Perhaps that is why I haven't actually seen favors exchanged between them. And of course they could never add a favor sash to their garb.
Favors strengthen the community love that is so very enjoyable at Faire. Some create a new version each year. My raggedy sash needs some re-arranging, maybe I should retire a bauble or two.
Oh! Blue, three sashes? - you devil! ;)
