Hello all!!!
I finally did it, I have a pattern, fabric, Fusible Interfacing, buttons and a sewing machine.
I'm a 32 year old guy who has never sewn a stitch, and am about to try to make a renaissance shirt, wish me luck!
I have been lurking here, for quite a while, got some good info from yall, and finally decided to pull the trigger.
Congratulations and good luck with your first project!
Congratz and welcome! What pattern are you using?
Thanx all!!
For the shirt, I am using Butterick #5656, in a Royal Blue Broadcloth.
I just cut out the patterns, and that was quite a task in its self!
If I have any success with this shirt, I am going to make a long Doublet and Breeches from Simplicity #4059.
Be sure to post pics when you're finished! :)
Fer sure!
Welcome to the addiction, Tripletap.
Consider if you will, posting under the 'projects in progress' thread.
There is a doublet in progress using the pattern you mentioned.
We are all so excited for you!
Welcome to the habit. Nice to see another guy sewing.
oh yes show pics! i'm new to the sewing world myself and i would love to hear what experiences you have.
Excellent news! Well done. Welcome to the world of thread and fabric stashes, pattern mines, and pin minefields! Enjoy! ;D
Another one bites the thread, as it were. LOL
Congrats and good luck. And if you have problems, I am sure someone will help if not all. As you well know you lurker. ;D
YAY another Guy sewing!!! Huzzah
(look out ladies we are takin over!!)
Good Luck and remember? To measure yourself and measure the pattern okay? if you are still a little apprehensive? Get a 50% off coupon from JoAnns and pick up some 45" wide muslin and make your shirt first from that, then you can see if you need to make any adjustments. I am sure you will do fine!!!

WOW! Kudos to you and good luck on your adventure! I wish I could get my hubby to sew! Would cut my workload down! Even if he sewed only his own garb!
I actually just got the same Simplicity doublet pattern for my hubby as you. Can't wait to see yours when it's done!
Let us know how it's going so far.
Cheers!
