Good evening all,
Amy was going through her patterns looking for the next project. She wants one that is appropriate for using a belt.
Well going through her patterns hit a couple problems that will drive her nuts, elastic and zippers. She has most of the normal JoAnn patterns.
Any recommendations?

Drac, we need more info! What does she want to make? Is this for herself or for you?
Many of the non-period details in the Big 4 patterns can be drafted out, switched to lacing, drawstrings, etc.
If you're looking for more historically accurate patterns, you can try places like The Tudor Tailor (http://www.tudortailor.com/)(book and patterns), Margo Anderson (http://www.margospatterns.com), or the Janet Arnold books (http://www.amazon.com/Patterns-Fashion-Construction-Clothes-C1560-1620/dp/0896760839/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1275533535&sr=8-1).
There are also a lot of free tutorials online. Usually just Googling the specific item I want to make will bring up lots of hits.
Thanks for the links.
She wants to add to her collection of gowns. She prefers court style gowns with at least an effort toward PC. On this one she wants to be able to have a belt as we are adding accessories such as cups. She would love to make gowns on the level of the workers.
Her best one a Simplicity 3782 for instance doesn't seem to allow belts without messing up the lines per her.

The easiest way to alter a Court Gown to allow for hanging cups is to make the bodice and skirt portions seperately. Simplicity 2589, 2832, 3782 would allow you to do this as long as you put heavy boning in the front center point. Then a belt could be worn at the natural waist and run behind the front center point.
Option 2 is to add cord loops inside the bodice so the ends are just visible at the waistline and hang cup/mug holders from those.
Of course all this requires you to alter the skirt to have a waistband that is under the bodice also.
Okay,
#1. If you are looking for Historically Accurate, the Gentry up did not carry things on belts for women. Servants carried such things for them. We tend to use baskets today during faire time. If that is what you are looking for Gem sent you some lovely patterns that I too would suggest.
Is that what you are going for???
