I know we've had some of the frock coats done; I'm wondering if anyone has made the waistcoats and the pants/breeches. Did they go together easily? How was the fit? Any pictures?
Gramercy!!
I made the long waistcoat. It was very easy. It fit just fine.
Haven't made the pants.
I made the coat, pants and shirt. I had a small problem at the bottom of the pants where the buttons are, but it may have just been a me thing.

Thats the only pic I have, I was sick while sewing it. The jacket took me a couple of days and the shirt and pants only took a day together.
I have made 4 of them and it is dead easy
All I have made is the vest or Waistcoat.
I drew in the slot to make a functional pocket that the pocket flap covers.
I made the pants years ago. They weren't bad but the front is semi historically accurate with the drop front. This can be daunting to some people. To be honest Gem you should be able to do the pants fairly easily.
Orphena made these to go along with her husband's pirate ensemble. They look fantastic. The thread about that is here (http://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php?topic=2396.0)
I have a pair of pants made from this pattern, and have worn them for years.. I am actually looking at slightly modifying this pattern and having another pair created in this style. The only issue I have is that they won't go with my new knee-high boots. :)
And as a guy.. I love the front on this pattern.
Thanks, everyone! I think it has all the pieces I need for the (men's portion of the) Much Ado project, which is great. I haven't looked through the pattern yet, but I'll probably get to that this evening.
Kruzar, why won't they go with your knee-high boots? Are they too long/short/bulky... or just a matter of the fabric/look and the boots don't look right together? (Asking in case there's something I need to know!)
I've made all three pieces...I like the pants, but the leg needs to be longer to tuck well into knee high boots (Bob's leg shows when he sits down). I personally don't like how baggy the seat of the pants ends up, but that canbe taken in to tailor it more. Other than that, the only modifications I have made was adding real pockets to the coat and vest for carrying stuff.
I tried the coat and it is sitting in a box thinking about what it has done.
I got confused and there were peices that i had no clue where they went. Maybe it was because my sister desided to clean my sewing area at the time...
Oh no. I hope it thinks about what happened and will work nice and willingly, if it ever comes out of the box again.
edit: I need to learn to spell :D
To respond to the question on the boot thing... mine are a little bit more fancy than the standard pattern. The lady who made them for me finished the bottom portion of my trousers with these really fancy buttons... and for the most part that is why they won't work with my boots... that aside, they also don't tuck quite right in my boots.. but then again that can most likely be fixed with some simple tailoring.
Like I said.. I like the pattern overall, and I am using it as the base for my next outfit.
