So I've been coming along an my corset (I had asked for help on lengthening it, and it turned out GREAT!) and I noticed something about the placement of the eyelets on the pattern--they are not even at all. On the Butterick 4254 laced up the back corset, there are two eyelets placed at the bottom that are spaced evenly apart, then a big gap, then 5 that are spaced evenly, then a gap, then 4 that are wider apart.
I am assuming that they are placed that way for around the hip area where there needs to be the most cinching, but will that make the lacing look weird? I'm not making it a very H/A replica (it's actually for my Steampunk outfit) but I'm just concerned that it might looked bunched in places.
Anyone have an opinion on this?

I have the bottom pair and top pair even, then space the remaining ones alternating. So, one side would be Start, 1/2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1/2; then the other side would be Start, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1.
That would allow for the spiral lacing.
BUT, since you're not going for that, just space them evenly!
Also, I spray paint mine before I install them. I do not sew over mine.
If you are making one of the Victorian style corsets rather than the stays from this pattern, be aware of the difference in the lacing: The Victorian corset has two holes on each side closer together at the waist to allow for the 'bunny ears' of the laces. This corset is tied at the WAIST in the back, not at the top or bottom: the lace is inserted and tied off at the bottom, and then the 'bunny ear' loops are used to pull it up and lace it tight.
Generally speaking, one loosens it off a little t allow for ease of putting on and removing, and tightens the laces when one is wearing the corset. The bunny ears allow for ease of lacing the opening parallel.
