Title: sewing machine took a tumble
Post by: Auryn on July 28, 2010, 10:10:21 AM
hello all.
So I spent this past weekend and all this week moving. Well actually my wonderful rogue of a bf moved most everything (and we still have to move all of his stuff).
Anyway, my little 13yr old basic brother sewing machine took a little tumble. It fell sideways from a height of about 2 feet onto the uhaul truck floor and spilled out of its box.
I have already warned him that if it doesn't work as well as it used to I already have a couple of machines picked out on Amazon that he can choose from with which to replace it.

What do you guys think is the chance that there is damage to my little work horse??
I haven't had a chance to test it as everything I own is currently in boxes in the garage.
I probably won't get a chance to test it till some time next week.

I think there is a good chance of something being broken - but luck may be with you and nothing was damaged.   You really need to test it as soon as possible to know for sure.  My mother-in-law had a brother that tumbled.  Its plastic parts and gears on the inside did break.  You can do a visual check and see if there is any cracks are broken parts.   That is if you haven't already  :D

I agree there's a 50/50 chance there is something broken.  I had a sewing machine take a tumble about that far and land on a carpeted floor.  *knock on wood* The only problem was part of the cover snapped out of place and now will no longer go back to how it was supposed to be.  But in all the machine works exactly like it is supposed to.

Hope all turns out well for you.

Auryn, I feel for you.

If my Janome did that, I would be crushed. That sewing machine cost me over a Grand on sale. That was 4 years ago!

No time to test the machine yet.

thank you for the hopeful wishes
Lady Kathleen, if I had a machine that was that expensive it would have its own insurance policy, carrying case and I would have never have someone else handle it.

We will see. Hopefully it will turn out ok

And people wonder why I'm on the look out for a good little work horse machine to take with me to the theater.  My good little 950E cost me more than I want to say but she has made many a travel. I would prefer to leave her at home, but until I can find a good little pony to take about town, my show horse is going to have to keep doing all the traveling.

Mine's list price was £1100 ten years ago...  I tend to let Himself or the GMNT carry it about when needed.  They are FAR less likely to drop it than me!  And yes, being an expensive machine, it is covered by the insurance.

I do have plenty of other machines, and I could never be without a good back-up.

the latche on my case did not hold when I picked mine up and sure enough it hit the floor and when I went to use it it made a terrible noise, took it to the shop and they said the rod is bent. GOOD LUCK!
