I may be bringing a friend to TRF this year who hasn't been in a long time. She's never attended in garb, but would like to give it a try. She's a big Stevie Nicks fan and loves gypsy style clothing, so I was wondering if I could get some shoppe recommendations from you all. I'm guessing Moresca would be on the upper end of the budget ... so what else might be available?
you can get her started cheaply by going to some thrift stores, pick up a broomstick skirt and some scarves, maybe even luck out with a peasant style shirt.
If she wants something "Stevie-like" that she could wear outside of Faire, too, may I suggest http://www.holyclothing.com/store/index.php (http://www.holyclothing.com/store/index.php)
I have a couple of dresses from them (and would like many more!) and they are super comfortable, well-made (and in ALL sizes!) , reasonably priced, and they ship quickly. :)
Martin, she can also try this shop. http://www.lostislandtrading.com/
They have a booth at TRF too, but I am not sure if it is the same name as the website. The sizes run very small, but they are good about exchanges. Prices are reasonable. I believe they are based out of the Austin area too, if memory serves.
I think it is the same people Bonny, or at least connected to them. I believe the website on the TRF page goes to the one you provided.
Some others that I know some of my folks back east have used in the past
http://www.renaissancewardrobe.com They have a package that is somewhat gypsy-ish, just missing the jingly.
http://www.garbtheworld.com Very simple somewhat cheap
But most of my friends who do gypsy go to http://www.crimsongypsy.com
Yeah, I think you are right Jack. They probably go by the same name. I have two tops and a skirt from them that I like to wear on my 'Garb Lite' days. ;) :D
I have a bodice from Crimson Gyspy. Very nice and I always get compliments on it.
Thanks for the great advice, everyone! I'll pass the sites along to her and I'm sure she'll find something she loves.
Holyclothing.com and lostislandtrading.com are different companies. Jim Witcher and his wife run Lost Island, (booth 263A (even more amazing at mid summer I still remember it)) and, all the best to TRF Performance Company, I will be working there this year, 2010.
He does have a large selection of new stuff we'll be putting out this year so check the website out...and support business people here in Texas!!! (lord knows our economy needs it)
Yes, Jim Witcher! He was great doing business with!
