The Blues Brothers

American Graffiti--you have to love 'Heart and Soul'

But most of all an obscure soundtrack called 'Night of the Comet'. It totally rocks!

"They Call the Wind Maraiah" from Paint Your Wagon
"It's Party Time" from Return of the Living Dead

"They Call the Wind Maraiah" from Paint Your Wagon

Oh, wow!  I didn't know anyone else had ever even listened to this song!  Every once in a while it will just compell me to burst into song, and it never fails to stir my imagination!!!  Paint You Wagon is one of my very favorite movies, also!

I love Paint Your Wagon too! But my favorite is (croak along with me!) Do you know where hell is? Hell is in hello.  Heaven's in good bye forever, it's time for me to go.  LOVE IT!

And the Quiet Man - wonderful movie.  Does anyone else think John Wayne (or about any other man) is hotter than hot in the churchyard with his dress shirt all wet and transparent and clinging.  *whew!*

Me too!!!!  Love Repo so much.  Another one of my recent faves is the movie musical of "Reefer Madness". I also love the old Streisand classics: Hello, Dolly, On a Clear Day, A Star is Born.  I've also discovered an affinity for "Hair" after the latest revival.

I could go on and on about musicals, lol. Most of my ipod is full of them. Another one I love that I never hear people mention is "Assassins". Really good music, classic Sondheim.

I am sooooo lame, but for me its "Sisters" from White Christmas - even from 3000 miles away I know my sis is singing along with me....

So much so, that at her wedding rehersal, we filed out of the church signing "we'll follow the old broad, whereve she wants to go......"

That's definitely what a man should look like with his shirt all wet and clingy (and very transparent!), and I'd buy stock in that shirt company if I knew the name!  :D  Silk, no doubt about it!  The movie used to play every year on St. Patrick's Day, but it doesn't anymore.  I need to just buy it, since it's my favorite movie, ever...

Of course, I also love all those old musicals.  When I was a kid we had 4 channels, the 3 major networks and PBS, and Saturday afternoon they always showed old movies and/or musicals, and I would watch them in wonder and fascination!  One of my favorite musicals is Brigadoon...

Everyone has such good taste. I found Brigadoon at Good Will several months ago.  Of course I bought it.  Sisters - of course!  Love the rehearsal story.

I am going to add to my list:

When You're Good to Mama AND Cell Block Tango (Pop! Six! Squish! Uh Uh! Cicero! Lipschitz!) - Chicago
Any Cole Porter song in any movie with Fred Astaire
Just about anything from Cabaret!
So long Dearie - Hello, Dolly (but I prefer Carol Channing)

Keep 'em coming!  I love reminiscing & finding new joys.

That was too funny, although I remember it better from the several times I've seen The Pirates of Penzance!  My favorite version was Gilda Radner's parody of it on the Muppet Show with a 6ft tall talking carrot...  :D

Nimue and I love The Quiet Man. Mr. Wayne is at his usual meh-acting, great entertainment self. Funny thing about the Duke: he was somewhat less than mediocre (for the most part) as an actor, but he was a real champ as an entertainer.

Ok, since someone already threw Disney into the ring, I won't feel so bad about my little secret obsession...

I just love "Kiss The Girl" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXmLRHnoSAs) from The Little Mermaid...  The movie version only, though, and not the one the little Disney starlet recorded.  I just love the harmonies, and it's fun to watch it with the animation!

(listening, and watching, right now... LOL)

Here's a nice reference site to do a little research:

Classic Movie Musicals (http://www.classicmoviemusicals.com/index.html)

I've got all of the "Fred & Ginger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_and_Ginger)" movies on DVD - they're probably my favorites.  But I also really like the Bing Crosby & Bob Hope "Road to ..." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_to) Films and the Musical Bio-Films, such as "The Glenn Miller Story (http://www.classicmoviemusicals.com/filmsg.htm#glennmiller)", "The Benny Goodman Story (http://www.classicmoviemusicals.com/filmsb.htm#bgstory)", and "The Gene Krupa Story (http://www.classicmoviemusicals.com/filmsg.htm#krupa)".

Take Care,
David Baldock

One of my most favorite movies is one called The Commitments.

A working class Irish young people form a soul band. If you love Aretha and Wilson PIckett, this is the movie for you!

WW, amazing stuff - that kid's got pipes.  My bff & I went to see Sister Re here in Houston maybe 13 years ago.  It was sweltering, she wouldn't let the ac be turned on, and was dressed to the nine's.  She carried her purse onto the stage (and made sure she always knew where it was) and at one point was so hot she took off her hairpiece, joking that she'd never be able to catch a man that way.

Bette: from The Rose

The Commitments was definitely an awesome flick (and music).

One of my favourites was sung by Kermit the Frog: Rainbow Connection. OK, my secret's out... The song was co-written by Paul Williams, a composer that I really like.

The Glenn Miller Story is a personal fave probably due to the amount of big band music I listened to growing up. My folks grew up in that era, and saw most of those people perform. The scene where London is being bombed while the GLB is outside playing "In the Mood" is great.

Any scene in A Hard Day's Night other than "That Boy."

I don't like any Rogers and Hammerstein with the exception of The King and I, but I cannot think of a favourite scene in it.

Any scene in "The Commitments".

'Falling Slowly' from "Once", one of the most romantic films I've seen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoSL_qayMCc

I like some that weren't made in Dublin as well,  ::)
I think a lot of the music in the film "Watchmen" was very well chosen.

Agreed, anything from "The Commitments" rocks.

If I ever hear "The Rainbow Connection" again, especially if performed by The Dregs, I'll puke my kidneys.

"(I Can See For) Miles and Miles", "The Acid Queen", and "Pinball Wizard" from "Tommy" by The Who.

"Comfortably Numb" and "Goodbye Blue Sky" from "The Wall" by Pink Floyd.

Name a song from Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom of the Opera" and it's good.

I LOVE Miss Mezeppa!

When I was a kid she's the one I'd always sing along with. Don't think I really got yet what a stripper was really all about... :D

Mazeppa

You can pull all the stops out
Till they call the cops out
Grind your behind till you're bend.
But you gotta get a gimmick
If you wanna get a hand.
You can sacrifice your sacharo
Working in the back row.
Bump in a dump till you're dead.
Kid you gotta have a gimmick
If you wanna get ahead.
You can uh...You can uh...
You can uh...uh...uh...
That's how Burlesque was born.
So I uh...and I uh...
And I uh...uh...uh...
But I do it with a horn...
Once I was a Schleppa,
Now I'm Miss Mazzeppa,
With my revolution in dance.
You gotta have a gimmick
If you wanna have a chance

Miss Mazeppe's my favorite, too.  And it's "banned", not "bend".  On another youtube film of a live production, Miss Mazeppe's rather fleshy, which of course I love.

I'd just copy pasted it without an edit.

How about Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. I so looked forward to that being played every year on TV when I was a kid. This was back before VCRs or DVD's you had to wait for the annual event.

You know, I've never seen Camelot. I did have the chance to see Richard Burton in the on stage version back in 1980, and it was so bad (Richard was going through one of his rough spots) I think I was scarred for life. May have to rent that one out one day.

I once read a review of the two versions, and if I recall correctly, it said that while Richard Burton played the role of Arther as a man born to greatness, Richard Harris played it as a man who had greatness thrust upon him... and that made all the difference.  I much prefer the Harris version, myself.  And yes, Harris had far more charisma than Nero, to my eye, anyway.

Anna, it's well worth the rental fee...

Back in the '80's I saw Richard Harris in the Camelot revival.  As lovely as he was in the movie, the live version - with him being older and wiser - was a thing of beauty.  The schmuck sitting behind us had to sing Every.Single.Song.

Yeah, I wish I'd been able to see Harris in the roll.

A segway here, but I *was* fortunate to see Yul Brenner in "The King and I", on broadway. That was amazing! A favorite movie in our household.

Oh, now that I would have given a great deal to see...  I had such a crush on Yul Brenner!  Sexy man... and he had the most amazing eyes!  Of course, he almost always played those fiery, volatile types... well, except when he played a robot, of course!  :D

Hah! Yes. That was an awesome movie, Westworld. Whoops, it's Yul *Brynner*. I mispelled his name earlier, and you are very sweet to not point that out Rani.  :) ....my spelling has been horrid lately and I always am in such a hurry I forget to spellcheck.

I too had the honor of seeing Richard Harris as Arthur.  I refrained from singing everything aloud...

I didn't even catch it, Anna!  :D  I do recall now that it always struck me as interesting that he had 2 y's in his name, and I didn't really know many people with an odder name than mine when I was growing up...  heheh

I may work for lawyers, but in the end it's just a different type of piracy...   :P

I had the great pleasure of being in the premier night audience - and hearing the song for the first time was like being struck by lightning.

In a really, really bad outfit (but with black pearl earrings I had my mom make for me), here I am at the gate, anxiously awaiting the evening:
