Out of the blue yesterday the Pink Pirate started asking me "Was there was anything , less than 100 bucks,I want for Christmas?"
Ack! I pretty much love practical stuff. And he is already saying I need to start making myself my own garb not buy it, so that is out. I'm looking for suggestions. Any sewing or craft related stuff you recomend I put in the list?
Well, drat. We had an awesome thread on this last Christmas--with PICTURES! But I can't find it.

--My Sim-Flex expandable gauge
--My tailor's ham
--My 20" square quilter's ruler (cost a friggin' fortune, but I loves it. :D I now desperately want one that's 2" wide, but that's largely b/c I've lost my cheap ruler.)
Do you have all the Margo Anderson or Lynn McMasters patterns? All the Janet Arnold books? Both books from Tudor Tailor?
Do you have enough muslin, pattern paper, Tru-Grid, etc?

I do not have the slim Flex epandable gauge. I do have the tailor ham, sleeve roll, the pants thing (which is great to have next to the machine to get those little bits.) Then the sleeve board.
A friend got me the lare L square. I do need new rulers because they keep falling off tables, and bags and breaking.
I don't have ANY Margo Anderson or Lynn McMasters Patterns. I don't have the Jane Arnold books, or the Tudor Tailor. I do have all but 1 of the Jean Hunniset books, the one I'm missing is the men's costumes, and that one is OOP. If you can find it, it runs $200! As for Paper and such, I'm good. Paper I get 50+ feet for $10. Muslin is bought by the theater. I don't want to use theater for personal or Personal for theater. Causes too much of an accounting head ache. So I buy mock up fabric per project.
One option I gave him was to just get X dollars worth of a Joann's gift card and tell me to have a good time. Get what I want not what we need for the house or for a garb piece for some one else. I want to keep my patterns in comic book boards,sleeves, and boxes, but I havent' gotten round to doing that. Considering I can get 100 boards for $5, and 100 Sleeves for $8, then the boxes are like $3-5 each it REALLY isn't that expensive to do despite my 200+ patterns. As for sewing machine feet.... that is a a wish list. I've got the ruffler, and the walking foot. Oh and the invisible zipper foot, and the special foot I use when sharpe stitiching. I would like a teflon foot. Just not sure what else I would actually USE. I'd love suggestions.

I second the Sim-Flex expandable gauge- I don't have one but really want one.
I really like my gigantor rotary cutter cutting mat- its a life saver. Id love to get another and cover my whole drafting table.

Depending on the size of your thread spools you sometimes can find tackle box clear plastic boxes. I have most of my threads in one of those. Keeps them clean, and I can keep them out of the light that way. My specialty threads I keep in an "art tote" handled clear plastic thing. Either work depending on how much you want to spend. My challange has been to find homes for my cone thread. I can get 6,000 yards of thread for the cost of 2 spools of thread at Joann's. Saved me money in the past couple years. Just finding a place to keep it out of the way, clean, and out of light has been a challange. I REALLY want a peg board for my room. That way I can hang sissors, cone thread, rules, and anything I can think of from it. I now own my home and if I want to hang it on my wall I will. Plus it will be high enough that I can keep little hands and paws out of it.
What about the new "Moda a Firenze" book, about Cosimo I de' Medici (AKA Eleonora di Toledo's husband)?
The book isn't published yet, but can be preordered now through the site of the publishers (and you'll get a discount). If it's anything like the Eleonora one, it'll be fantastic!

BTW do any of you use a beading foot for your machine, or something like that? Any specialty one's that you really like?
Ummm... I think you may have just answered your own question! If what you REALLY want is a peg board, then why not ask for that? Installed to your specifications, complete with all the little hooks and dowels you need to hang whatever you like!!! Painted in whatever color you want... ;)
That was to be my Aniversary present but it keeps being put back (Since May). ;D

I use a beading foot for sewing wire onto hat brims. Works great!
I have started doing some milinary work. Not having to hand stitch the wire to the brims would be nice. And my mundane friends wonder why good quality hats cost so much. OY!
I just received my subscription renewal for RENAISSANCE Magazine. That will satisfy me for another 3 years. :)

I love my Sim Flex, I make my cartridge pleating using it and spiral lacing is now a breeze!

I have tried to use the zig zag stith for sewing on Millinery wire to save time. But nefer seem to work as well as hand stitching does. Might have to do with the guaqge of the wire and double strand of the heavy nthread. I do use the machine to cover the wire with bias tape though.
