Just sent my proposal in 2 days ago for 2008 since trying to actually get a hold of tom IN the office has been more than impossible. Once I hear back from them and I'm guessing we negoiate a little I'll let you all know.
Looks like I'll know by Tuesday if I've got a contract coming or not. Wish me luck!
I suppose you can add us to the list. We've received our contracts, but haven't signed them yet, because we have to get the darned things notarized. But Professor M and Nell Belle will be returning. Yay!
Hoozah!!
Hey-I happen to know a notary who works real cheap! Anyone who needs that done, get in touch! I can take care of that for you!
What better place to have something notorized than the "Courthouse Tavern"? If you're all going to be there anyway.

Hmmm, are you playing there?
OK, now that I have everyone's attention I have to share something. I woke up the other norning and climbed out of bed in my usual vague morning state. But I noticed something attached to me hit the doorframe as I walked out of the bedroom.
Can anyone guess what it was???? ???
IT WAS A FREAKING CLOTHES PIN!!!!!! Someone I know wanted to get a head start on the Ren Games and clothespinned me! And I slept on it all night!
Now, back to your regularly scheduled programs. I didn't know where else to stick this post.

Greetings Friends,
Just wanted to let you know that Captain Stout, Jenny and I will all be back this year. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again.
All my love and best wishes,
Vinny
Well you can add Mali and Plank to the list. I just recieved a contract today. ;D
Fair winds,
Mali
Sadly at this point I don't think I'm going to get a contract from Mr. Paradise. So I don't think you all will see Pester The Jester or SMELL U at PRF this year.
:P feel free to complain alot to the office for me and maybe I'll be back next year
I'm afraid this will be the first year I will not be working/stalking the faire since I was like 13. This is partially because I'll be leaving to study abroad in London September 2nd. 8) I'll most definately visit one or two of the days during the first few weekends though 'cuz I miss you guys a bunches. :'(
I still haven't heard anything. My guess it that I'm ousted this year...
Lonerose, I'm gonna miss you, but a chance to study in London sounds pretty sweet! Congratulations!
Malarky, I hope it ain't so. I've always felt your character added so much to the look and feel, and for that matter, sound of the faire. You'll be greatly missed.
I'd like to be involved, but have yet to hear from anyone. Looks like y'all may be sans piper for much of the festival.
Sean and all. I don't agree with the way things are being done but what do I know. I do know that the PTB is looking to book entertainment that will be available for the whole run. When they run out of people that can committ to all 13 days, they will have to return to the people that can do part of the run and fill the bill with different acts. That's why many of you haven't been called back yet.
This make a great deal of sense for the cast but I don't see the logic with stage acts and buskers. If anyone hasn't been contacted and told them that they can't be there for all the days, be patient. They will get back to you. I know it's difficult not knowing and people are looking elswhere and my advice would be to book what ever you get offered where ever pays a decent fee. When they contact you to do a couple of weekends to fill out the bill of fare, you will have some leverage. For most of you, if you would have been able to committ to all 13 days, you would be signed already.
It's not the way I would do it but I am not doing it and probably never will. Book what you can and don't be disappointed about not being called yet. Hang in there.
We also have a situation where the ED is busy elswhere. Not the best situation and he knows it but I have his word that it will be different in the future.
Terry this is where I have to counter your post unfortunately. I and a good at least a few others I know of(and people I know Tom's talk to who I just don't know) ARE ABLE to work all of the days of the faire. So unfortunately this argument doesn't hold much water.
Yes there are acts who said they can't work the run(I met one in VA) and got turned for that, but this isn't by far the sole reason for act rejection.
Tom's doing quite the amazing job considering his schedule. He's gone to bat for ALOT of people(myself included), sadly though JP makes all the final calls. I think everyone should be buying Tom a beer when they see him.
Also really....booking people in June & July(and soon to be august. I mean there are august street cast auditions) for an August faire? I really wish I had gone through all the talks I had with Tom in say Feb, so I could have booked elsewhere. Luckily for me I have a day job still and this won't effect my life, I know others who can't say the same. Both Entertainers and Vendors. I learned my lesson and will be sending out media kits in Jan to many a festival that run in the July - Oct range.
Heh also I think I missed what "PTB" stands for ;P

PTB stands for Pester The Bester :)
Actually, it's Powers That Be (AKA, He who shall not be named).
I did say "That's why
many of you haven't been called back yet." I know for a fact it is the reasoning behind some of the non-action. The PTB (see above) still has the veto power for other reasons that we are not privy to.
Heh here I was trying to make it something Pittsburgh's Top Boss or something.
Yeah I have spoken to at least 1 or 2 people(heh one of which has the same last name as you) who can't do full run and that's why they've been turned down, but like I said I know probably more who are willing to do the run in full but were also turned down or just never had their calls returned.
I'll be attending the first weekend definitly and any future weekends I can afford. I still support the faire and it's performers & vendors even if I won't be working there.
Rafi received his contract for street cast and I received 5 contracts to hand out to 4 new Gypsies and 1 for myself of course for a brand new Belly dancing stage show (insert applause here). ;D
I just renmailed you this question!! haha
Congratulations to the both of you! I'm very excited that you will both be back. How exciting for you about the new show.

Awesome! A belly dancing stage! I can't wait to see you and your troup. ;D I am so happy to hear this, but will you still get to perform in the lanes when the Court passes you?
Thanks very much Charlotte!!!!
How are you? I would have said Hi sooner but I just finally got this account to work today :P
Anyway, HI!!!!

;) I definitely plan on performing in the street. I did ask Tom again about fire eating in the street though. Since there is now going to be a fire artist with a stage show I know there is some concern about stepping on toes. I'll let you know when I get an answer.
Welcome back to the forum, Sadira! And it's GREAT news that both you and Rafi are officially returning! Oh, and the four additional belly dancers might be nice, too.
Hooray for the return of my two favorite Gypsies....oh and Rafi too... ;) Give Gimp a hug for me!
Kilted One and I have been hired as the Middle-class Innkeeper and Seamstress. Our contracts are going to be mailed to us very shortly. Tom was going to give me a bigger role with a script however I am on vacation the week before during the intensive rehearsal time.
Tonight, Tom was hiring him a goodly number of casts for the streets of the shire.

Great!! You both will be great additions to the cast and we all look forward to some good times in the lanes. This cast is shaping up into one that will make this year's faire even better than last year's. The two of you are perfect and I know from improv classes that you know how to play.
Welcome.

You will both be wonderful additions to the street cast. Don't worry about the scripted role you didn't get. I think you'll be perfect right where you are. And Kilted One, though he wasn't (kilted, that is), had some great stage presence in his new garb. What a first rate inn-keeper he must be! We are really going to give the public a memorable event this year.
Well said, Professor!
If our last rehearsal was any indication of how well we will be working together, it will be a great season. Watch for several new characters and a surprise or two! I am so excited for opening cannon I can't wait! Last year was a getting to know you time. This year there is a closeness and camraderie I haven't experienced in other things I have been involved in. The enthusiasm and energy is there, all we need are the crowds!

Hello all!!
I be Amelia Quackston, the Apprentice Keeper of the Ducks. And, as of just a few days ago, I'll be joining all of you as a lane act on the streets of the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival!! Myself and my "practice" ducks will be hanging about, entertaining folks with jests, songs, games and stories, all told with a "ducky" twist. So, come, interact, listen to my tale of woe upon becoming the Apprentice Keeper, play a game of getting your ducks in a row, share a joke or two, and meet Edward and hear his favorite song!! To learn more about Amelia, you can find me on MySpace:

Welcome, Amelia! I cannot wait to meet you and Edward. He lookes to be such a handsome fellow.
It would be nice if you could teach me to keep all my ducks in a row. It is a talent I simply don't have!
Jan (Duchess of Norfolk on the cast)
Amelia - welcome to our faire. I'm looking forward to meeting you and Edward as well. I'm sure you'll quack us all up in the lanes.
Amelia, It's great to hear that you'll be joining our faire. You're going to make a great addition to the place. Welcome!

Yes, but I am still the sweet person I always was!!! ;D
Our King had mentioned several weeks ago that he wanted to have a Margaret on cast. Yesterday at rehearsal he asked me if I would be interested in the part. I am delighted beyond words! Spent the morning shopping for a crown as per his majesty's orders. It is going to be a fun season! ANd just wait until everyone sees the new buildings and the new vendors!
Jan

I have to say.............I LOOOOVED the ducky lady!!! You could tell she had got up at the quack of dawn to prepare for faire! I'm glad we didn't have any fowl weather, so her first weekend was nice. Welcome Amelia. (not Emelia)
