Title: Scent Lockets/Aromatherapy Necklace
Post by: Nailin on August 29, 2010, 02:50:16 AM
Curious to know if anyone has come across a scent locket or worn one especially at faire - need thoughts on whether a simple one in the link below would be H/A - also whether to make a scented solid to insert or use a scent infused pad - thanks

I've seen a couple hanging from belts before, but nothing in the neck/chest area.  But those do look interesting.  Thank you for sharing, I think I might get one whether or not it's H/A

A pomander is very often hung at the end of a girdle or off a belt.  It would have sweet smelling herbs or perfumes in it.  I have two- one of which is a concealed perfume bottle and the other is a "locket" with a small oil absorbing pad inside.  Personally, I like the bottle a lot better but both work well.  I've also just carried a bunch of herbs in my pocket/purse which has been helpful too.

I've seen a few on girdles, but not many. Unfortunately in the south when you go to Faire, by the time gate opens the scent of sunblock and sweat is pretty overpowering so I've never been tempted to get one.

I posted detail shots of a portrait painted by the Italian artist Sofonisba Anguissola the other day. It's of her sister Minerva, and I wondered if her pendant might be a pomader of some sort. It has the typical details, and seems to be tied to a coral necklace of some sort? Not sure about these details, but that is what I can make out of it. The portrait is from ca. 1559, and from Cremona in northern Italy.

I have recipes for solid scents, and will pass them on if you want.  The ones I have are coconut oil and beeswax based, so they are for short-term use only.  email me at majikah1@yahoo.com for specifics.

I own Majikah Perfumery, and we carry a few of the box necklace designs, although they are not on the website yet, which is  www.majikah.com.  Primarily we have small hand blown glass bottles on strings.

You can also use small pieces of rag paper and soak them with scent to put in your boxes.  Many times, these do not work well with metal, as the strength of the essential oils can react in contact.

Dont know about being H/A but they are everywhere in southern california. I have a round cinnamon one that was solid. I think with most of them you're going to have to switch them out fairly often, the locket type pendant would be perfect for that.

Anyone know where I can buy a pomander?
