Post by: Auryn on August 31, 2010, 02:36:08 PM
I am heading out this afternoon to check out a "Viking Iris " for $300 I found on craigslist.
Here is the post.

What do you guys think?  is it worth it??
I plan on using the embroidery for all our work shirts.
I'd love your opinions

I dont know much about Vikings or embroidery machines.  But it sounds like a good deal to me.  Hopefully it will be a good deal in person.

I'd check out epinions or see if Amazon has a review on it.

I looked up the machine, all the reviews I have found are really good, especially for a embroidery machine at its original price point- $1600. Apparently it sews also which would be great.
I spoke to the girl selling it. It comes with all the software and the magic box that loads the images onto a card that goes into the machine, however there is no digitizing software since she never bought it.

I am going to go look at it in the morning, she said shed be willing to show me how it works and how the software works. So we will see.
If anyone has any opinions or ideas on things I should ask/look for Id love to hear them.

I love my Viking to pieces, and for the price it sounds like a steal!!  My only reservation would be that you're wanting to do some business stuff on it, and I'd be concerned about whether a $1600 embroidery machine is going to be up to that kind of workload (although I have no idea how many shirts you're wanting to make at a time, and how many batches/year). I'm not familiar with the Isis; you might check Pattern Review for reviews on that machine.

Let us know!!

As far as embroidering shirts for work, it would probably be maybe 30 a year tops.
There are only 3 of us in our family business that would need embroidered shirts.

I called a local trusted sewing machine shop near my house to pick his brain about the machine.
He said they no longer make parts or design cartridges for it but if I have the magic box that loads designs onto the memory card itd be fine.
He did also say that they no longer make parts for the machine.
I am scared that if something happens to it Id be sol.
I haven't gone to see the machine yet. My other worry is how much use/abuse has it seen in its 5/6 years of use.

Hello!

I love my Husqvarna Machines, I have had the Designer SE and now the Diamond they are embroidery machine. It is more about the embriodery software than the machine, however the Emerald has great hoops you can use!

Well, what kind of parts could a 6 year-old machine have that no other Viking model uses? That seems odd to me. Maybe a couple of specialty accessories that never caught on, but wouldn't you think the parts that make the machine run are going to be the same as in the Platinum &c, or other machines from that era?
