So, I was all jazzed over the new faerie bag I was going to make for faire to replace my basket- just a simple square tote with a strap long enough to sling across my body, that's big enough for camera, mini tripod, purchases, etc.
then I realized that if i have a bag slung across my body, it kinda ruins the 'look' (and by look I mean cleavage)
thinking maybe just add loops so it can ALSO be hung from the belt at the side, but it has to be at LEAST 1.5 ft square... Cant just do the one shoulder thing cause I hunch up that shoulder and end up hurting the next day
thoughts?
Maybe you could make the strap to tie around your waist (with the ties under your belt, maybe) so it is slung on your hip, and doesn't drag at your belt?
that was exactly my thought, Rani- I can make the strap long enough to leave some extra to tie around the waist, but then, still be able to manage it on regular outings when I'm not in garb...
And you can tie the straps to use it as a cross-shoulder bag, as well. Funny... I seem to be experiencing deja vu! Wait, there it goes again!!! ::) :P
oh hush you dork! LOL well, i'll be sure to bring it AHE- it's gonna be cute- my mom has an embroidery machine, and had made me this cute faerie AGES ago, i just never got around to DOING anything with her! so, she's gonna be the focal, and I'm taking all my glitzy faerie fabrics and making a random patchwork for the rest of the bag
Wait... wha? What are you doing with that Fairy?!?!?!? :o :o STOP THAT!!! Fairy molester!!! (teach you to call ME a dork...) :P
Oh, sorry... I mean, carry on... :D It sounds like it's gonna be gorgeous!!!
I dont think it's molestation when I am a faerie too...
it's going to be interesting, that's for sure! I need to buy a couple of zippers for it, unless I can harvest one the right length from something old...
and I'm rooting about for any awesome scraps of fabric to use in the patchwork- not sure yet if I want to do an actual pieced pattern, or just squares...
Zippers?!? Blasphemer!!! I'm not sure, but I think I can see the villagers milling about with their torches as we speak... You just keep diggin' the hole, don'tcha? Might not want to get rid of that handbasket quite so soon, or you might be without a ride... :P ;)
I'd say the pattern would depend on how fussy you are as a Fairy. If you have everythig else "just so" then probably a pattern would look perfect, but if you're one of those scattered Fairies whose hair won't stay tidy, and whose wings are always just a bit skewed, the the crazier the patchwork the better, I think. Whatever feels right to you when you're cutting, I guess... ;)
Have you considered TWO pouches Bellevivre? No reason you can't have one on your belt for necessities and one on your pouch for treasures which you purchase throughout the day.
I like Rani's idea of the "just so" vs "scattered" on the patterns. Please do show us pics with what you end up with!
LadyKett, the primary concern is I want to use the faerie my mom embroidered for me, and my camera is BIG (DSLR size, it's pretending to be super fancy) so I need something bigger than a pouch (lol I have pouches GALORE!
also, lol Lady McArthur jams would be HEAVY on my belt! still will be in a bag tied around my waist and hanging from the hip, but more secure, I think...
Mmmmmmm... Jam. Will we be having a Fairy picnic? Will you be carrying the bread and butter with you, as well, or shall I bring that? Maybe we can talk Fraser out of some banana nut bread (Loki) to go with it!
;D hehehe
lol Rani, quit hijacking my thread!!!!
and yes, we CAN have a faerie picnic AHE if you want to...
But... but... YOU'RE the one who mentioned the JAM!!! :P And there just has to be bread and butter if there's jam, right? I mean... bread, butter, jam and Fairies just go together, right? Oh, and dandelion tea... I wonder if we can find some there, or should I get some from the field before they're all gone?
Hmmm... maybe some acorn cups, also... And some daisy chains... Oh! And some pumpkin cookies...
Oh, sorry... wandered off there for a minute! So, have you decided on a pattern yet? :D
Rani... is there a faerie in you wanting to get out??? i think there is!!!!
have not yet decided- need to get my big squares cut our first, then decide if some of those I choudl cut smaller to make stars and things
Oh, I had a Faerie for lunch, and she's been knocking about in there all afternoon... ::)
Kidding!!! I do have an inner Faerie, and she escapes once in a while, but she's just so hard to stuff back in there... and she gets GLITTER all over everything!!! :P
I'm thinking now that you have cut all of your hair off... you're going to be much more of a scattered Faerie than a neat-n-tidy Faerie. :P Oh, I know!!! Maybe you could make one side of the bag a lovely pattern, complete with the little Fae, and the other side a crazy patchwork!!! Ta-da... (I actually think that idea came from that Faerie I ate... errr, ummm... I mean, who lives in my head...) :D
that is actually a BRILLIANT idea...but... in reverse... the faerie is big enough that she'll take up most of one side, so I'll do color pinwheels on the OTHER side so you can see them, and maybe make SMALLER patchwork on her side... I have a feeling this bag will NOT be done in time for opening weekend, cause now I'm thinking about adding beading in leaf and flower designs, etc...
Muaaahahahahahaha!!!!! (my inner Faerie is rather diabolical that way...) :P
Hehe, you two are having so much fun here. Sorry for the intrusion LOL.
I see now why 1 larger bag is necessary. I don't really have anything to offer other than I'm trying to find my inner fairie. My inner pirate seems to be holding her at sword's length on the gangplank right now!
Good luck with your pouches and please share pics of what you end up with!
Lady K, best watch them sneaky lil' inner Faeries... they'll flit around your head so fast you'll get dizzy, and the next thing you know yer layin' on the gangplank an' some 'gator done snatched yer hand, and is swimmin' away lickin' 'is chops 'n grinnin'!!! :P ;D
If you manage to catch her, though... you might wanna make a big ol' bag to keep her in, like Belle (that's REALLY what the zippers are for...)! :D
Lady K- why not a faerie pirate!!!??? Ive done sketches for one before, I just dont have the garb made up yet. I mean, all faeries love glitter, right? and GOLD glitters a LOT!!!
her outfit can be ship-things (ropes, sails, striped stockings, etc) and the wings can be influenced by the sea- blues, green, gold. Accents in dubloons, gems, a faerie scimitar...
and youre not interrupting- youre JOINING!!! ;D
OooOOOOooooo a fairie pirate?! Oh the possibilities! I will have to ponder.
My daughter and I are sitting here in our Faire hats and drinking from our Faire mugs and listening to Faire music. We are now pondering fairie pirates LOL!
EDIT: Horrid grammar and DD says "pin the bag to your side so it doesn't interfere with cleavage". It has some possibilities. We shall have to play around as I usually tote a bag around for booty myself, just not normally with wings and cleavage to contend with.
Thank you. I now have an evil image of boobs with wings! ::) ::)
Must be fumes form the sewing thread...
Well now I have a concept art sketch of the pirate fairy! Just need to take a picture and post it. TRF should prove interesting with the DD in tow. :)
ooh! I cant WAIT to see! I have to force myself to stay up till 7AM tonight, so I'll hopefully be making big headway with the bag...
