Hello all. I am new to the forum and new to the Renfest for the most part. I am going to be working at our local Renfest this year and would like to know what is the proper clothing to wear to be a vendor? Any help?
Most renfaires have guidelines for their merchants. I don't know if you're male or female, but you should check with them first.
But my basic advice would be plain shoes or sandals of something that looks like leather, a loose long sleeved shirt, loose pants/long skirt and a simple vest that is not denim. Most of this you should be able to find going through thrift stores.
Hi Woodfar. At what kind of booth will you be working? I agree with Dona. Keep it simple. You might look at sites like this for inspiration.

You might also get a participant discount at your faire to add to your garb. Ask others in your shop.
Sorry for the lack of info. Should have known better. I am a male 59 yrs. Wife and I will be working in the booth that makes wax hands. Just got hired yesterday so don't have all the info yet but am really looking forward to the fair. Trying to prepare ahead so I can be at my best. From this forum sounds like a blast.
Ok, if you don't have much time, go by Target and buy a pair of plaid flannel men's pajama bottoms. Look for a shirt that looks something like a poet shirt in the thrift store and look for a wide leather belt with a d-ring buckle. You will eventually need some sort of pouch to carry your stuff in, but you can probably buy that at faire.
Add leather sandals and you're all set.
scrub pants work well too.
I really say go thrift store hopping to see if you guys can find any thing renaissanceish, and the link that was posted is swell for beginners.

With the cooler weather comming, you might also consider something to keep yourselves warm . I noticed JoAnn's Fabrics is having a sale on their polar fleece fabric. I suggest buying enough for you and your wife to make a simple cape or cloak. All you'd have to do is cut a hole in the center of a large square, or simple wrap the length around you. No sewing needed. A dark or medium grey would be a good choice.
Army Surplus is another good source for cheap and warm fabric.
