I really love and want a Wolfstone Chemise from the Wolfstone Kilt Co./Potomac Leather (http://www.potomacleather.com/Lassies-Under.htm)but every year something happens that prevents me from getting it. Like everyone else we are dealing with penny pinching and paying so much for something I wouldn't have an opportunity to wear but a few times a year has been firmly vetoed again this year. :'( After listening to me pout for a while the hubby suggested making something similar. I've got various patterns for chemises, I've got patterns with similar sleeves (I think adding ties would be an easy tweak) and it seems like something that is doable...but I can't figure out how to change the top from the gathered elastic/drawsting to the flat band. I love those 2 little buttons and that flat band. So far I haven't found a pattern that has the flat band for the top, does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Annastasia
Try these square neck chemise instructions. (http://www.sca.org.au/st_florians/gallery/2008/articles/shifts.pdf)
Festive Attyre has excellent instructions (http://www.festiveattyre.com/research/chemise.html) for a band neckline chemise (scroll down a bit).
Thanks! These should be very helpful.
You might also look in the pattern books for a nightgown pattern. I have a nightgown with almost the exaxt same treatment at the top.
This is just an idea of what I'm talking about.

Simplicity's 9769 chemise has a very similar neckline. It also has the most adorable puffed sleeves, in case you change your mind about the Wolfstone ones ;)
I'd fogotten about that one! It sits off the shoulder like the Wolfstone too. :)
It's a very Victorian design. This freebie could be adapted easily: http://www.tudorlinks.com/treasury/freepatterns/w1889ochemise.html

The Wolfstone chemise is based on 16th c Italian designs. You can see similar sleeves, though unfitted at the top, here (http://realmofvenus.renaissanceitaly.net/wardrobe/NMT.jpg) and the gathered neckline is very common through out Europe at various times in the 16th c.
Actually, it might even be based off 16th c Irish dress given the sleeves and the type of garb they sell (http://mccarthy.montana.com/graphic/Irishwomen.gif)
I wonder if we are all looking at the same chemise?
I'm thinking of the chemise pictured here, third from left:

That's the one. I love the little buttons and the sleeves! But they may be 'too' long with my munchkins (5 year and 3 year old boys).

After looking at a picture of this pattern, my memory alert is dinging...I have that pattern...somewhere. Guess I will have to finally finish dealing with all the stuff that got packed up to rearrange bedrooms when my 3 year came along... :)
Thanks,

This is McCall's M4091.
Could you adapt this to put a band at the top? I made one with the neckline cut a lot lower... The sleeves seem pretty close in design, and could also be easily altered.
The Wolfstone chemise is gorgeous! I can see why you're drooling over it!
$180! Beautiful, but ... $180!!! I can see why you have the WANTS for it.

Yeah! That's it. It's so beautifully made and the quality is awesome, and I totally understand the price for such quality craftsmanship. I know that I don't currently have the skill to make one as well made as theirs, but I'm hoping I can come up with something that gives a similar overall look. I guess that will be a big project from 'til Aug 2011. So starting November (after the in-laws visit and I get the "guest room" back) I will get my craft room set up and get started!!
I found my pattern!! Yay!! It's Simplicity 7215. It's got a corset and chemise. It's very similar to the chemise in Simplicity 9769. Now to get started figuring out the changes and get fabric for a mock-up... ;D

Do you have a link to that? It's not one I'm familiar with (and one hates to miss out on patterns, doncha know? :D).
You also might want to take a look at Simplicity 2890 (http://www.simplicity.com/p-1802-costumes.aspx#), which has the banded neckline AND the buttons!

this is a picture of the pattern. It's got to be discontinued, since I can't find it for sale anywhere but maybe eBay. I know I've owned it for a long time...copyright on mine is 2002...looking at this pattern I really like it...the neckband and sleeve bands have a lace edging that is so cute... I think it's a very good thing that I have about 10 months to make my chemise as I have a feeling it's going to take about that long to make a final decision on what I what ??? ;D
You've inspired me to buy both patterns and try my hand at this lovely chemise in the (hopefully) near future.
Yeah, I actually bought this one, (well one of the two, can't recall which offhand) a few years back when it was on sale. Forgot I had it. ;D It's so pretty haven't had the need for it yet, but I'm glad I did. One day I'll make something steamy and it'll be perfect!
