Title: ISO cotton damask
Post by: gem on October 14, 2010, 06:20:27 PM
When I finish the Gimli tunic, I'm going to reward myself with some new fabric for a kirtle project! I want something a little different than linen, so I'm thinking of a cotton damask. Penney's has these pretty tablecloths:

...Which I might order while they're having free shipping, but I was wondering if anyone had seen any good-priced yardage lately. I've checked FFC, but only saw kind of funky designs in the damask (weird modern leaves, etc).

Gramercy!

Oh: no particular color in mind, tho' probably not green, cream, or red.  :D

Hee! Dona C, did you see that that's raincoat fabric (coated in plastic)? It's pretty, but even more table-clothy than the one I posted!  ;D

Ran across this just now while searching for some linen...thought it may be close to what you're looking for...some other damasks did come up in the linen search I am doing.

You mean you're not making tablecloths?

cotton damask has gotten pretty rare. mostly what I find everywhere laely is rayon jacquard.
What I have seen in cotton jacquard has been at the fabric outlets on Perth Street in Dallas.

That jacquard is exquisite! Perhaps a little fancier than I was envisioning, but definitely stash-worthy!

This is WAY outside my budget, but I'm posting it anyway, because it's so, so gorgeous. Linen/cotton damask (http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?pageName=search&flag=true&PRODID=xprd779816), $23/yard:

The repeat is pretty huge, so it would need to be something like a full skirt over a farthingale, or maybe a loose gown. It comes in a couple other colors, too.

Eep! And this one (http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?pageName=search&flag=true&PRODID=xprd986205) is even more dear:

Only $27/yard. LOL  But it's 90% cotton/10% rayon, so it's probably worth it.

So I hope I have whet your inspiration!! Remember you can dye these darker, so you some of these you can make a Kirtle and Over Gown in the same material just dye the over gown a darker color.
