Title: Corset emergency!
Post by: Lady Rebecca on October 17, 2010, 01:44:15 PM
I was wearing the tabbed corset I just made, and I sneezed, and the fabric in the space between two of the front tabs ripped. It's only a small rip, but it's in the fabric itself, on both sides of the reversible corset. What do I do?!

You can try applying a small dab of glue or clear nailpolish to the fabric to keep it from fraying anymore and then in matching thread whip stitch over the rip to reinforce the area and pull the tear back together.

What Centuries said! You could also sew a patch on both sides, and it will be even stronger.

I accidentally cut through a boning channel in a corset mockup  in much the same way. I fixed it by whipping the edges together on either side--lots of very tiny stitches. I was surprised how strong and nicely it fixed the boo-boo!

I put clear nail polish on it, whipstitched it, then did another coat, and it seems to be holding (even when I sneezed again!) so hopefully it will be good for faire in a couple weeks! Thank you both!
