Title: question about fantasy garb
Post by: Lady Rosaline on October 26, 2010, 05:29:11 PM
I'm making a faun costume and am stuck on what to wear up top. Traditionally, I guess lol, faun where male and didn't wear much if any thing on their upper body. As a female I need something, but I'm clueless as to what it should be. Any ideas?

A fur bra top.  At least, that is what our female faun at MNRF wears.  She also has a fabulous coat for the cold days- it is fitted to the waist then flares out beautifully and has fur cuffs.  I wish I had pictures!  =)

Ohhh I wish you did that would be most helpful.  I have a fur bra top, as seen in my avatar but it is real fur and my legs are fake fur so it my clash a bit. but i don't know. I'm not the best at coordinating outfits

It would be cool if the furs didnt match.

A faun that comes to CORF ran some of the ivy leaf garland around her torso and arms it looks really cool, though again I dont have pictures of her.

A wrap shirt would be cool, too. It usually looks quite fantasy-ish. You just get a thick fabric and wrap it securely about your bosom a couple of times.

This coming from a fellow faun XD

A wrap top, sweet. I never thought of that. I think I may go with one, at least for now until inspiration hits. Thanks so much!

Are you gonna be a Faun this weekend, Bunny Fur?  No matter what you wear, there's someone who's gonna hugtackle you when she sees you... so I hope you're not on stilts at the time!!!  :D  heheh

I'm afraid my trip to TRF this weekend has been vetoed by my kiddos, they want Mom home for Halloween this year. :-[ I guess it's only fair, since I am always gone if Halloween falls on a weekend. (which really is not THAT often) but oh well. I will be making a trip to TRF b4 the season ends and plan to make one weekend at LARF.

Oh, NO!!!  She's going to be soooo disappointed... and so am I!!!  We've been looking forward to seeing you for months!  I understand about Halloween, though.  That's why I don't get to have a "grown-up" weekend at TRF!  She's not about to be left behind for it!  LOL

Well, darn... we'll miss you so much!  I'm not looking forward to telling her you won't be there, though...  :-\

They have changed a bit since we took these pics. But this is pretty much what they looked like before I added the hoof and fur.

No more than really tall high heels. But then the longest I've worn them is about an hour or two at a time. I'll let ya know after Sunday (taking them for a test walk on Halloween).

I am so impressed by the engineering here, and also of the finished look. It looks so... right! If you're going with the bra idea, you could also make a fur bolero jacket. You know the ones with only sleeves and a small back. Like this, minus the front (if you want to show off the bra, you could of course make the front too):

First off, congrats on them being almost done XD Woot for fauns! They do look like they could use a bit of padding on the knees and butt to keep them shaped, but that could just be the view.

Secondly, what faires are you planing on going to? I'd love to have an opportunity to meet up with other fauns XD (though mine is only 5% done o.O)

If you're in the US, check out Faerieworlds. It's a great place for fauns and faeries and everything else!

My hubby and I made them. We saw a pair on youtube that someone made for a werewolf, we copied their basic design and modified them to work for a faun.  It took us a week to get them to this point.
For now, I'll be using a wrap top. I do plan to make a coat similar to the one Opera shared a link for.
Thank you all so much, I'm very happy with the way they have come out. Now I just need to work out the tail.  :P   :)

I mainly do Texas faires. I will definitely check out  Faerieworlds. I've made a few changes to to the legs to slim them down a bit more.

Oh, that's soooo awesome, hon!!!  I can't WAIT to see you in it, and I know Scally is gonna FLIP when I show her this!

(glad she's still young enough that I can veto the the platforms/stilts, or I'd have my own little faun running around, after she saw yours at TRF...)  :D
