Guess I'll start stocking up on cold meds and soup now
Cold-eze and zicam!
They really work. But Friday & Sat are looking good.
(keeps fingers crossed)
No rrrrrrraaaaiiinnn
getting stuck in mud sucks
Looks like I will be wearing the pirate coat of many pockets closing weekend
*rum works as an amazing insulator*
Teach, if my cloak isnt done and I start to freeze, will I fit into one of your pockets? Ill bring you some rum in payment. . .
I will squeeze you under the coat... no problem
*and the rum too*
how might a fae wrap up in warmth without smooshing or ripping off her wings?
Fae must have cloaks that have openings for wings... or else wind long lengths of warm cloth around themselves... or perhaps they might even wear lots of warm layers under their not-so-warm outer layers,,,
Unless, of course, they are able to make VERY large wishes, and turn themselves into humans for the day... ;)
thanks, Rani :)
A Fae who wanted a bit more warmth might look for something like these (http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/Accessories/Hosiery/Watercolor-Landscape-Tights-175609.jsp) to wrap her legs in...
I'm so amused right now as that's the weekend I'm planning to visit (from Maryland). I showed the forecast to my Texas friend I'll be going with and I was like, "ooh, nice weather!" and she was like, "are you kidding? that's COLD!"
Now it's calling for highs in the upper 50's
lows in the mid 30's ;D
That sounds perfect, Fraser. Wish I was coming down!
Sounds like perfect cloak weather to me! I hardly EVER get to wear my cloak in to Faire, so I'm excited! Ooooh, I can wear boots, also!!! WooT!!! ;D

Tink, you could use a shawl or a pretty throw blanket to wrap under your wings.
No rain is going to make it a GOOD day! We'll have a ren fest virgin with us ... my 18 year old nephew ... he's beside himself with anticipation! lol
At least it feel somewhat seasonal... some lights... some annoying elves... crisp wind... German Ice Wine... ;)
Mmmm... Ice Wine! Oh... and don't forget the hot chocolate!!!
Ooooh, I wonder if I could find mulled ChocoVine? That just sounds... heavenly!
Okay....50s requires a cloak, I'll concede that. (or, in my case, my awesome Moresca jingle coat!)
I may get a bottle of Apfelkorn... good s**t for a cold day.
*The Germans know how to brew anti-freeze*
The only thing I own from Moresca is a set of laces I bought there last year... for a total of $2. It's what I could afford, but hey... they're Moresca, right?!? :D
Someday...
And, mmmmm... Apfelkorn!
Yeah, I lusted after the coat for two years at least before I finally bought it but it gets use every year! I've even been known to wear it with blue jeans. :)
Oh, I can imagine! I'd wear a Moresca ANYthing as much as I could possibly get away with! I bet it's gorgeous!

Temps in the 50s seems pretty close to perfect for faire, but I'm one of those that doesn't stop sweating until the temperature gets below 65. When our son from NYC comes to visit in December, we have to turn the heat up in the house, raising it up to about 66 or so.

no bourbon but I have a good supply of Scotch and rusty nails, and of course anyone rised in the highlands knows how to keep things warm, Thats important in a kilt.
Sounds like lovely weather to me... :)
Oh its ok , I have plenty of bourbon.... but I wasnt raised in the Highlands so I may need a bit of training in that department ;)
Well, chilly weather is an ideal excuse for finding a tent-mate... which can keep things nice and toasty at night. ;)
I'd be interested, myself, in hearing about these methods of keeping things warm whilst wearing the kilt, though... :D
Oh, and I'm certainly not averse to the occasional Rusty Nail! (just so long as it's only one or two, since I understand that too many can make you lose track of the things you've done that day...) :o heheh

Whats a rusty nail?
A highland drink 3 parts scotch single malt (I use 18 year old) and 1 part Drambuie (drambuie is spiced Scotch Wiskey) so in a way a rusty nail is scotch with more scotch and some spices. sure to keep you warm.
Rani I've heard that me own self by think its one of those low land stories, couldn't me proving it by me. Thats me story and I'm staying with it. 8)
Cana come by the camp Friday or Sat and we will talk about how to keep warm in a kilt ;)
Its a must that you come by camp, and bring a rusty nail with you , I would like to see if I have what it takes to drink Scotch, lol, mixed with Scotch as I have never tried it in my wee young years of 45, lol
Ummm... if I'm not mistaken, aren't we all going to be in the SAME camp next weekend?!? Phoenix Risen, yes?
Oh, and Lady R, Rusty Nails go down pretty smooth, since they're rather sweet... but beware, since they're very deceptive! Just ask our own dear Fraser... Lord of the Rusty Nail. :P :D
yes we are, hmmmmm
Well then, at least that means none of us will have very far to stumble to get home! :D

Merlin, there's always RenDezvous! You could make an effort to get to OKRF, as well, although it's not quite the same experience as TRF... and I know hardly anyone there, as opposed to the scores of folks I've met who frequent the TX Faires.
I'm hoping to talk a bunch of R/Fer's into invading OKRF (the Castle at Muskogee) this coming season, btw... ;)

That would be awesome, Bonny! Unfortunately, there is no playtron/patron camping, although there are campgrounds within 15/20 minutes of the site, if my info is correct. I know nothing about them, though, and I've been having trouble finding much at all about the camping scene from anyone on the Faire's fb page... There's just not the same kind of Rennie network here as I've found in other places, which is sad... :(

Tink, we haven't even made any favors this year, although I had plans for some. As usual, though, things have happened (like unscheduled dental visits and the PLAGUE) to keep me from finishing half the things I've started, and I fully plan to spend the next day and a half in a drug induced haze while the bruising in my jaw fades and the ice-pick in my brain is being removed... so I doubt we'll have any favors this year... but I know a certain pirate hat that just won't ever be complete without a Fairy favor! ;) heheh
I'll be there Saturday!
Also, I made a trip down to OKRF last year and loved it. I kept an eye out for camp grounds and you're right Rani, there are some close by, but alas, I don't know much else :( Muskogee is also a small town, my boyfriend and I stayed in a motel room next to another ren couple. It was a nice get away!
One thing I loved about OKRF was the coins they used as tender. You'd pay with cash and a vendor would (sometimes) give you your change in coins with value of 1, 2, 5, and 10 'pounds'. Here's a post I made a while ago about them - http://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php?topic=12052.0 it was a great time :)
I think it would be fun to invade one of the campgrounds and have a nice R/F Rennie enclave for after Faire, and all set off for Faire at roughly the same time of morning! Hmmm... this needs some thought. ;)

The Baroness reports a bad case of "Christmas Stomach" as she finishes packing for our flight south on the morrow. Having skipped last season, I'm a bit excited myself. ;D
Now, seeing that the weather guessers still predict coolish days on Friday and Saturday, we were wondering where you think the best (and hottest) cafe mocha in the shire is to be had?
There is a bakery to the right from the main entrance that should serve your purposes Baron.
I second Dona's recommendation. Fabulous little bakery/cafe!
Ready for this very cold weekend ;D
Cold yep, long draws packed
Dang, podner...you call thet cold?!?
Hah, im back in Houston for Thanksgiving break from the middle of Kansas, and this 80+ weather coupled with the humidity is crazy considering the weather I left 3 days ago. I'm so excited for this weekend, perfect weather if you ask me ;D
Thank you, ladies, for the info on hot cafe mocha. After standing out front for an hour, we'll be ready.
By the by, temperatures in the 50's and 60's are considered summer weather for us Coloradans. (It's 8 degrees above zero as I type this message. Mild for this time of year.)
The Baroness and I are looking VERY much forward to joining ya'll (did I say that right?) this weekend.
Baron, come join me in the sand box and try 135+

Well, the temp just dropped 20 degrees here in about 40 minutes... the time it takes me to drive from my mom's house to my own. It was 63 when I left, and 43 by the time I got here, and the wind is hitting about 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. It's supposed to start raining any time, and freeze hard by morning.
