I'm trying to plot my sewing for the next month or so. The PP needs new pants, but I'm trying to decide if need to make me a few extra pairs of bloomers as well.
We are expecting a new member to the Pink Pirates Flock this September. ;D Right now my biggest problem is that I can't stand alot of pressure on my stomach. I'm trying to decide should I wear skirts that I can adjust with bloomers during Sherwood/Early scarby or wear my faire Paire tights.
I know by May I'll be wearing my peasant outfits, or maybe even an empire waist fairy, but not sure about early on.
Congrats!! ;D I hated having pressure on my stomach the whole time with both of mine, so I would recommend skirts.
I knew it!!! CONGRATULATIONS!! You'd mentioned something in the other thread and I wondered.... :D
I have no advice on this matter except to say you'll probably be able to decide this the day of, based on how you feel right then. But think about options like drawstring waists on the skirts (which would be super-easy to whip up), or maternity leggings.
Good luck!
I'd go with bloomers that sit really low on your hips and skirts. The body does funky things when there is a little one growing and you dont want to put too much pressure anywhere south of your neck.
And Congrats! When are you due?
I actually announced it in the "Member Milestone's" section about 3-4 weeks ago. ;D
Due September 23rd.
One thing that is nice is I have several draw string skirts. The only problem is I HATE my thighs rubbing together. During the hot times of Scarby I do NOT want that happening. I may look into the maternity Leggings. I've worn 'Briar Rose' with out bodice before so that isn't a problem. And Lady Stitch is what ever I happen to pull out of the costume trunk. ;D There is an advantage to having a character being the little sewing fairy who steals all your lost sewing pieces and garb. Heee ;D
Right now loose elastic waists I tolerate pretty well, ridged.. not so much. They poke in places I don't want. Where the little one is, I don't ache much, but it is higher that I don't want pressure on. It makes me even more nauseous. :(
Gem, before you ask... Yes the PP already is having me make the little fuzz a pink pirate outfit be it boy or girl. We would like to do a weekend trip in November to TRF with the wee one.
Congrats on the womb pirate! Now, I would say loose tights or even a pair of shorts worn under your skirts. Espcially, later on when you will want the support on your belly.
Since you're worried about rubbing, I would say shorts/bloomers under skirts. You can make something, or look for maternity slips, or 1/2 slips that are more shorts than slip. I have shorts, that were called some kind of 1/2 slip, made of something silky, that aren't hot and I still use at Faire.
You make the 3rd person that I know due in the fall.
Shorts work very well.
If you aren't too concerned about being period-correct, men's compression shorts work very well for thigh-rub, are wicking, and you can roll down the waistband to accomodate your baby belly!
For garb, high waisted Italian dresses work nicely...
Seconding the Italian gowns. They fit like a sports bra with a skirt. Very comfy and no tummy pressure whatsoever. There are a lot of good or easy to fix patterns out there as well as some great places to buy them anymore. The Italians themselves use to wear a chemise, what looks like a high waisted bodice, and them a colorful silk organza "chemise" over that right after pregnancy (Mona Lisa is actually wearing this style) so that may be another option to try.
For some reason I dreampt that I made a red velvet and while silk/satin cotton dress for scarby. Then wore my favorite bloomers, and/or men's long boxer breifs. I wore some one weekend at the suggestion of another rennie, and they worked.
I'm not sure if I can do it but I may try it out and see what happens.
Now just need a story reason why the PP is running around with a new "girl" this season, or why Briar Rose is wearing a dress.
