Title: Singer 252?????
Post by: Lady Anna on February 15, 2011, 06:28:33 PM
I have the opportunity to purchase a Singer 252 industrial machine from someone. It comes with the table and they are wanting $275 for everything. It is in working order just might need a tune up. I can't seem to find any info on this machine, just parts and reference manuals. Is anyone familiar with this machine? She is a family friend who is bringing it back from her mothers house and I have not seen it. She is a professional seamstress who does interior design. What do you all think? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!  ;D

Is it perhaps the Singer Fashion Mate 252? White/Off White and Green?

Yep, that's the one. As I understand it. It is in extremely good condition with all of it's acessories as well as the table.

The Fashion Mate series are DOMESTIC machines, not industrials.  It may be in a table, but that won't make it an industrial.  Industrial sewing machines have table-mounted external motors and are bigger and heavier than the Fashionmate.

It was a fairly standard domestic machine in it's time: not built for factory or workshop type use, but a reasonable domestic do-it-all style machine.  Enjoy it for what it is, but don't expect it to cope with regular 15-hour sewing days or bike leathers!
