Title: How many Dummies does it take to make a dress?
Post by: LadyStitch on February 25, 2011, 09:03:20 AM
Yesterday I was offered for free 13 large tubs of fabric, notions, patterns and assorted garb, as well as 3 good quality high end dress dummies. I am told one of them is an adjustable regular size, one is one that is designed to be padded out, the other is a plus size dummy.   I already have "Lucy" my size 10 dress dummy I rescued last fall.  I really could use the plus size, and the adjustable is excelent for when you do corsets since it is squishable. But how many dress dummies does one person need?

Three is a good number.

That being one can be working on tow different ensembles at the same time and whish to display them.

I have two dress dummies. I could use another one. But then, I need more room.

I have:

Jenny: mature figure plus size
Brat: Child size
Fed: The Man!
Caroline: medium size
Dolly: small/medium
Athena: plus size

It's barely enough!  Especially when I have some corseted up for historic projects...

For me ..two.

One is my funny little paisley friend. Rescued her from a second hand shop. She's adjustable, but has a warp in one leg.Have to prop her up a bit when I hem.

The other is me.  :D

I would think since you costume an entire theatre, you would need multiple dummies since you will be costuming multiple people at once. (Plus one for you and one for the PP  ;D)

Take them!!  I would turn them down b/c space is at a premium and I only really need one for me (altho' one for my MIL would be fab), but with all the different people you're costuming, you need them! You can pad the various ones out to fit whoever you're working with at the time.

As for the PP, why don't you try a duct tape dummy for him?

Hmmm, a dummy.  I don't have one of those.  Two machines and a serger, but no dummy.

Guess I need to start looking!
