Post by: max and kate on April 04, 2011, 04:38:33 PM
I be needin' a new Pirate Hat the old one just too much trouble. Any how I was lookin at hats from Pirate Fashions an be wonderin' if anyone has any feedback on one of their hats, price looks good an you can spruce it up in many different ways. I need to know if it be good quality felt and good workmanship on the trim. Thanks Max

Pirate Fashions is one I've never heard of before.
The Hat People (http://www.thehatpeople.com/) have booths at multiple fairs and a lot of people including his Lordship has bought from them. A pirate hat is basically a round brim hat turned up to make one or more corners.
If you want something really personal, you could buy the hat blank and add what you want in the way of pins, hat bands, feathers, etc....

Don't know anything about that vendor, but if you fancy a leather hat, these guys have nice gear...

The Concillium has bought most of our pirate/ cavalier  hats from Excaliber Leather.  They are affilated with The scot shop at Scarby.  They won't have their full line there but they will have some.  I've had mine a good 8-9 years and still looks good even if it has survived rain, wind and travel.

I second this!  The hat I'm wearing in my profile pic is from them and I love it!

(or did until I left it in the back of my car for a week in the hot summer sun.  Time to whip out the steamer and do a bit o' reshapin'!)

Several years ago, I went on Ebay and bought a wool felt hat blank.  It had a wide brim, and I was able to sew the sides up & made it into my own pirate hat.  I customized it to my tastes, and it was very inexpensive.  The hat blank was about $20 & then the trims & other custom stuff cost around another $10.

These folks are great and they don't make just leather pirate hats, they make felt pirate hats too and they are GREAT!  As a matter of fact, the felt hat I'm wearing in this picture came from them.  Its unique and they can do just about whatever you want.  They even made one hat that has a skull face impressed into the top of the hat!  Their prices are great too!
