The PP has decided he wants to remove the pink maribou trim from his pirate coat. Personally I like it because it harksback to his Flamingo brother persona but it is what he wants. The problem is, if we remove it what do we put there to replace it? That is why I'm turning to you, because we are stumped.

What is the rest of the coat made of? I am remembering the marabou-trimmed half-cloaks, but not the coats.
Pictures should be fixed now. He was looking at possible 4" wide ruffle lace on the cuffs edge, and a different lighter pink trim down at them, OR same trim as the front (if there is enough left, as it was clearance)

I'm with the PP on this; not crazy about the trim *at the edges* of the cuffs. I'm not sure you actually need to replace it with anything (unless removing it leaves ragged edges that must be covered). But I wouldn't mind seeing more of the floral tapestry repeated, perhaps along the front opening.
I like the trim in your second post, but I'm not sure how it would look with the rest of the fabrics. Maybe in conjunction with a ground fabric to make it pop more?
There won't be any raw edges. I'm tempted to just take off the maribou and see what happens to the look. He already had a magenta and gold trim that is at the edge of the cuff next to the marbou. Then hem is the part I'm really not sure about.
I think an inch wide fold over of darker magenta velvet might set that edge off very nicely, and pull out the darker pinks in that gorgeous trim! It would transition nicely into the lighter pink of the body of the coat, and you could even edge the pocket flap with it, for a little more contrast.
If you really want to put trim there (I'm in the anti trim crowd), I'd put a gold lace trim. Something without a lot of extra color but would pull in the colors from the existing trim and complement the warm tones of the fabric.
maybe a lighter shade of fuchia on the hem? or something that is just a tad darker than the coat? I think that it would look good with no trim on the bottom hem but that is just me.
I agree with Gem, I like the just the tapestry cuff.
He told me he thinks he doesn't want trim at the hem now, after looking at pictures of himself again. However he says he wants nice stiff lace, about 2 inches wide off the ends of his cuffs where the feathers were. His thing is, he doesn't want it floppy.

I think they might have something like what you're looking for.
If it doesn't have to be lace, my thoughts are a nice tight stiff tafetta ruffle would look handsome at the ends. With a gold corded trim at it's base. Perhaps a darker color to pick up a color from the cuff with a shorter ruffle in front of a white or pale pink tafetta. If he is bent on lace the tafetta in combination might help keep the lace from being floppy.

Actually we met in the middle. We got a nice very tight pink ruffle trim, and behind it we are putting a 2 inch wide lace, then moving his current trim over so it covers the edge of the pink trim. He likes it, and that is what matters. :)
How if the weather will cool about 10-15 degrees and he can wear it :)
