So did anyone get any pics or were ye too busy trying to keep cool and dodging the sand storms? :D
Got some pics, but need to load them onto the computer :) I look forward to seeing everyone elses as well!
I was too busy dodging sandstorms with a mug of beer...that counts right?! :)
If you saved the beer, then that definitely counts! ;)
I'd love even MORE pretty pictures of meeee :D Feel free to take as many as you please :D
I have posted my photos here:

When we saw the weather reports we decided to just leave the cameras at home this time. Based on the sandstorm potential.
Felt really odd to not be taking videos while my Lovely Lady was snapping away shots of the faire.
*Made it easier to carry more rum though so there was a bonus*
Anyone know of any sites that have pictures up? paul42 hasn't posted new ones, and the ones I've found from Google searching Flickrs seem to be only shows. (I was remiss in pic taking, and my students are angry lol)

I think I probably have some from the Saturday parade. I've posted 170 so far in a set on Facebook, but I'm still working through Sunday's set. I will post all 500 or so on Flickr at some point. However, I do have a question for those who view them:
Do you prefer one large set for the weekend, or split up into multiple smaller sets like I did it last year? The former is easier for me, but the latter may make more sense. Here's the link to
last year's collection, which actually has both types of arrangements:

My late father-in-law was a photo-engraver, now a lost art. He got me interested in photography to begin with. He told me that if I got one really good shot out of a roll of 36-frames, that was a good thing. With digital photography these days, it certainly makes it easier and cheaper! Slightly better that 1%, Stalkwell, but close enough... you understand the odds! You do some really great work, though, as does your lovely better half. In case no one has thanked you lately, we
are most appreciative of yours and Kim's work.

You had better watch that praise thing... you'll have me turning 18% red scale ;) Both Kim and I appreciate the kudos (Kim is bouncing in her chair while reading this).
We have to follow our passion. It just so happens that all of you are superb subjects (for photographs that is, not saying we are royalty or anything). That makes it a lot easier to get good, and sometimes better than good shots. We both enjoy it to the point of being constantly up until 2 in the morning working these things. We just can't work enough of the shots for the people that deserve them, so we do what we can do. If you see us dragging our tails at faire, that means the previous weekend was probably a good weekend for photography.
Stalk well... (and Faeriebox too)

To quote a famous Star Fleet Doctor...
"In a PIG'S EYE!!!"
You all do quite well (and Merlin is no exception). Quite often you do better than we do at the same shots. We are trying for a more technically difficult style of shot, and very often entirely miss the moment that you capture. When we get to the point of not missing the moments, then we will be up there with you guys! Between everyone here (and I mean everyone from $35 digitals and disposable cameras to $10K rigs, from 5 minutes to a half century's worth of experience), the mood and magic gets covered. No one is 'better', just different. And all are appreciated.
Stalk well...

Al-Nimer... I saw you working that camera of yours at FoF for all it was worth, learning how to meter better on the fly. And from the look of it, you did wrangle it. You even conceded the ultimate a male can concede.. that you might have to actually read the manual! (yes, that was in jest). You do a good if not great job at it. You get around better than Kim and I do, nab a much wider variety of shots, and you are trying to better yourself technically at the same time. What's even more important, you are getting the shots that are important to you. That's all anyone can hope for with any camera at faire.
Keep up the good work.

Even so, thanks so much for the compliments and encouragement! BTW, I still haven't RTFM ::)
I have to say one of my favorite shots is one stalkwell took just off the cuff of the PP and I. "Pink Pirate steals a kiss". I have it as the home screen on my phone. ;D
One day I left my phone ona shelf outside my cube at work. Soon as they turned it on they knew who it was. :) They thought it was adorable. :)
I didn't get many shots worth sharing- but, I was pretty proud of this one picture I got with a regular digital camera at the Fire Whip show.

Great pics!
Stalkwell: According to my hubby, Al-Nimer, you took some pictures of our daughter enjoying some Faire Lipstick (red Italian ice). She has told us she did NOT enjoy it & this is exactly why she does NOT want to be a princess (We watched the Royal Wedding on Friday) when she grows up because of all the paparazzi.
;D
I can't wait to see the pictures!
I want to say a special thank you to Paul for all his hard work.
There are others that do a fantastic job and I commend you all.
Paul has taken some great photos....even printed some of them and gone the extra mile to find me and/or my wife at faire to deliver printed pictures he has taken and he accepts no money....wants no gratitude... but does it out of the goodness of his heart.
His card says:
"I accept no money
You owe me no dept
See the address below
For you pix on the net"
People like this give me hope in humanity.
Even though you say I owe you no dept... if you have a favorite charity... we would like to make a donation in your name. If not.... could we send some funds in your name to the Red Cross for the victims of the Alabama tornado?
Thanks Paul !

Merlin
Thanks for the kind words!
No repayment is necessary.
I have several reasons for handing out prints.
I started off taking pictures at faire and handing out prints long before posting them on the internet was a possibility, and it has just become part of my hobby.
There are still quite a few people at faire that do not have regular internet access, and a small thing like a print can be very valuable to them.
I may not get the colors right, but at least on a print the mistakes are all under my control.
I refuse to take payment for my photography for very selfish reasons. It means I take the pictures I want to take when I want to take them. It means I can experiment and not worry that about "owing" somebody a picture. It keeps photography fun for me.
Paul, I can't tell you how important your pictures are to me. This is the ninth year that I will be creating a scrapbook of my Scarborough Season. With only a few exceptions in all those years, I have been able to find a head shot of each person on cast for my "yearbook" pages. I would say at least 95% of them come from you (and I think that is a low estimate.)
Of course, while you can take the pictures you want, I still might hunt you down this year and point out any cast on the last weekend that you have missed. I am much more on top of things this year and have already started the preparations for this year's yearbook pages.

Stalkwell: According to my hubby, Al-Nimer, you took some pictures of our daughter enjoying some Faire Lipstick (red Italian ice).
She looked like she had just licked a green lemon ;D Interestingly, the first frame I fired was the best of the bunch.
That shot will be floated to the top of the list. We haven't even downloaded the cards yet. I must be sleeping too much or something... darn closed eyelid thing. Saturday pertty well ran us into the ground with the temp and humidity, but staying out with the herd 'till late late before heading home certainly didn't help. Sunday, not much better... it took lots of time at dinner to thaw out the hands, got home and crashed immediately (boy I'm getting old ;)
Downloading tonight, hopefully shots will be up shortly...
Stalk well...

Mothers day pics
Went on sunday and had a good time, though I missed a lot of shows I wanted to see. This was due in part to lack of sleep and not keeping a schedule because I kept wandering around in the search of good photo ops. Browsed kee's longbow shop a while and picked up a 43# hickory bow. He and his wife were very informative and friendly. It was a bit warm but there was plenty of shade. I still have to render the video of the parade I took a couple others.
Did the scotch tasting, though I arrived late and just drank kind of quickly :) I had a nice nap on the ride home. I hope to go closing weekend and get photos of a lot more stuff especially the may pole. This was only my fourth time going to scarborough. The only items I have are one pouch and my mug strap :) I bought the bow to shoot but it will be a piece of my persona i'm sure.

Do you use a DSLR or a Point-and-Shoot? Which brand?
Since I've used Nikon cameras since the early 1980's, I'll recommend Nikon cameras.
For a DSLR - the
D7000 (http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Digital-SLR-Cameras/25444/D700.html)For a Point-and-Shoot - either the
P300 (http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Compact-Digital-Cameras/26246/COOLPIX-P300.html) if you want a
fast 4.2x Zoom Lens, or the
S9100 (http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Compact-Digital-Cameras/26248/COOLPIX-S9100.html) if you want a slower 18x Zoom Lens.

For anyone coming to Scarby memorial day weekend. I will have my camera with me every morning, I may not carry it all the time, but if you catch me in the parking lot I'll take your likeness in garb while you still are fresh as the morning dew and somewhat sober. LOL. Just an offer. I usually post on Photobucket, you can then look up your photo and tell me which ones you want and I'll e-mail them to you. That's how I use to handle Motorcycle shoots. It's the easiest way.

...
From a D50, the D700 would be a really nice step up. But so would the D7000, and it did well in this comparison of cameras shooting at High ISO settings:
Ken Rockwell - "Nikon D7000, D300, D3 (D700) and Canon 5D Mark II - High ISO Comparison" (http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/comparisons/2010-11-08-d7000-d300-5dmarkii-d3-iso/index.htm)Personally, I'd like to have both the D700 and the D7000.

As always...incredible Paul
Although I don't attend the faire, I just wanted to say how much I enjoy looking at the photos. Scarborough really has some talented photographers in attendance! Ronald the Bald, paul42, and everyone else that's been posting photos-- Thanks!! :)
There are some great shots of the bilge pump guys. Great shots Paul :)
I don't know how to do the quotes for responses, but Lady Kett, did you see that Paul has a couple of me with the Jewelry sign? I swear, that was the best sign I've had in the nine years of signs. Well worth the lost 30 minutes of sleep putting it together the night before. I'm a little sad that it was a one day bit only! Of course, the next rapture or end of the world is on October 21. That's a Screams night! I better start planning now. . .

Not a great photo but the only one I have of us on Day of Wrong. I'm a World of Warcraft Quest turn-in, and Sidekick was an older, less talented version of Michael O'Quinn. I had a bag of goodies for quest rewards and Sidekick had a whistle of sorts to play. Perhaps a bit too subtle for many but we had a great deal of fun with those who noticed.

Pictures from final weekend - Saturday are up.
Sunday & Monday are still in work
Beautiful Work Paul. If I may ask one photographer to another, what lens do you use. Your portrait work is stunning and something I'm still trying to get a handle on.

There is nothing better.
There is a very fine line between hobby & insanity and I crossed it long ago <grin>!
Paul since my father put my first camera in my hands at age 5 I was hooked. I've been at this for over 50 years. Wanted to study in NYC but my Mum said absolutely not. (the days before internet schools, and Art institutes in every city. I know mine is insanity, I don't go anywhere without my camera. Ask Lord Dragon about our 55 mile trip of the west coast of Oregon that took 3 days because I kept stopping and back tracking.
I'm using a Nikon D200 18-200 lens, I'm just not getting the same depth of field you are getting, and I like your work. I do great landscapes and product photography. And I love to shoot B & W. I guess we all have our specialties.
Thanks for the impute. Love your work.

Now now, Paul... the Nikon 70-200 2.8 AFS VRII holds its own quite well with yours. And besides, your lens won't fit on her camera ;)
Lady Gryphon...
The wife shoots a Nikon 80-200 2.8 AFS (out of production for about 8 years now) which kicks the 70-200's butt at the apertures Paul is using. It's a shame they aren't made any more. The trick is to shoot with limited depth of field, that forces your eyes to concentrate on the detail of the subject. Both Paul and I are trying for 1-2 feet DOF for optical isolation.
Stalk well...
Finally had time to work on the 7th weekend stuff. If interested here it is...

The 80-200 f/2.8 AFS is available
on ebay for ~$1350 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-AF-S-80-200mm-f-2-8-80-200-2-8-afs-EXC-/300565538222).
Right now, I shoot with a D90, but I'd like one of the new D7000's.
The main problem is finding a telephoto longer than 200mm that is still fast --- without having to pay $4000 + for it. :o
Take Care,

Week 8 Sunday. Memorial Day pictures are still in work
Thank you one and all.
I'm using a D 200 body with a Nikkor 18-200 DX. I guess I just need to get closer and not use my Stealth mode any more. LOL
I keep forgetting that unlike the bikers I'm use to photographing, Rennies like having they likeness taken.
You all do great work, Paul's just caught my eye at the right moment.
Beautiful pictures Paul! Huzzah!
I've heard the comment that the photos that you all talented people share here is one of the reasons we have so many visitors from out of town. Huzzah!

Beautiful pictures as always.
Aye...great shots as always. I hate it that we weren't able to make it down again this season.
Life has been jam-packed and so I am EXTREMELY behind on my photo processing.
