For what seems like months now I have been trying to decide what type of gown I want for this years fair season. My baby is due August 18th, so although I won't have as much of a belly, I definitely don't want to be tied up in a corset and such, especially since I will be breastfeeding.
So the two choices were between an Italian gown, in which I can modify it so that it doesn't have a lot of boning, and I can unsnap it from my shoulder to breastfeed. And the other choice was a Spanish style gown.
I then came across this: http://www.margospatterns.com/comfort.htm . Now I have a friend who used this pattern while she was pregnant, and it looked amazing. The description says that it has breastfeeding options, which is a super big plus for me. My thing is this:
1-All the years I have been going to ren fair, I have barely used patterns. I have read them, used them for inspiration, but I have never done a full on costume from a pattern. So investing $32 into this pattern before I buy it, I just want to make sure it is what I need
2-The breastfeeding option is what intrigued me. But I cannot find any reviews or pictures of how that part is constructed. I would like to know from people who have used this pattern if it is easy to breastfeed once the outfit is on.
So basically I need a ton of help! lol. Thanks <3
i've spent the past Scarby season making me some new dresses for faire. I would highly recomend the basic Italian gown. Empire waist, so until the kiddo get's here you are comfy, and still look nice. As for breast feeding options. You can just do the bodice so that you have a flap that opens so you can breast feed. Check out some nursing cami's, or nursing night gowns for insperation. Once I saw all it was, it would be easy to adapt.
The garb will be born after the baby is born. So it doesn't necessarily have to fit an expanding belly. I just don't want to be bound up in layers and a corset then a gown and such. But still I am so confused as to which to choose. (watch me do both!)
At first I was sticking with the Italian gown. High waisted, and I could adjust it so one of the sides pull down. Then I thought of the ropa, and sort of liked that.
Blargh!!!
Some one said they made a boned bodice but the hid snaps or hook and eyes onthe edge of a decorative bodice front, so they could easily open it, let their chamise down, and let the kiddo have at it. You still get a a nice dress, and still have the ease to feed baby.
Fuzzlet is due right before TRF, so Scarby will be the first time I have to deal with this issue.
I really wish I could see some of the gowns in action in regards to letting down the side and breastfeeding.
Send a PM to Alisoun. She made a maternity version of the Margo Anderson Tudor kirtle that was just fantastic, and IIRC, wore it after the baby came, as well.
LoL Gem, I actually know Alisoun, she lives like 10 minutes from me. I did look up her ensemble that she made, but she didn't make it with the breastfeeding options, and that is what I am trying to look at before I purchase the pattern and start it myself :)
OK! So I purchased the Margo Anderson Elizabeth Comfort patterns so I can make a loose gown/ropa. Now here is the thing, to attempt to make the gown out of fabric I have on hand! *gasp* So I have two main fabrics to choose from for the outer gown, a plain dark hunter green velvet fabric, or a brocade fabric of blue and gold? Which one should I make the gown from?
Many of the loose gowns I see are made with a solid color and decorated with lovely trim and such
