I have fallen in love with the brocade used in this French Hood. http://www.talltoad.net/FrenchHoods/Lg/LFH-BCCELT.jpg Hubby doesn't want me to purchase unless I can find the fabric to make matching grab, at least a bodice. I've searched and searched everywhere I can think of...any ideas?
Thanks

They have the same fabric on Ebay. I didn't see those colors when I just looked, but put in "Renaissance fabric" and the different colors will come up. You can contact a seller to see if they have the exact color you want, but I know I've seen the color you're looking for in the past on Ebay.
...Which means you can also make your own (http://www.elizabethancostume.net/headwear/fhoodmake.html) French Hood, and get something that looks a little more authentic!
Gem, I will have to make my own french hood if I can ever find the fabric! Tall Toad replied to my email asking about the fabric and they can't find anymore either--and no more french hoods, guess the website hadn't been updated yet. They got the fabric off eBay over a year ago and can't find the same Normandy Cross pattern in the copper on black. I emailed a few more places to see if they have any copper/black but it's not looking good. >:(
Renaissance Fabrics (http://cgi.ebay.com/BLACK-COPPER-CROSS-VESTMENT-BROCADE-FABRIC-/360358101457?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53e70441d1&clk_rvr_id=237675106684) on ebay appears to have 9 yards available.
You can also do a ecclesiastical search, and that brings up that style of fabric.
I'm amazed by the knowledge here!
That fabric is from an eBay vendor that goes by Renaissance Fabrics. I have that vendor saved as a FAVORITE seller in the event I get a call for a Vestment for a Priest or higher up. Lovely fabrics indeed.
They don't have the orange but other colors.

Renaissance Fabric doesn't have the fabric anymore. The copper one they have on eBay is a different pattern that doesn't have the same celtic-y feel. I'm hoping I can find it, or I will need to keep searching for another "gotta have" fabric. Thanks!
Well, you're right--they're not identical, but they are pretty darn close. I would probably buy the yardage that is available, but YMMV.

Some warnings with either fabric - they aren't natural fibers. You will burn. You will freeze. You will be more prone to heat exhaustion in the warmer months and more prone to hypothermia in the cooler months. My suggestion is, rather than a full dress, go with a forepart and maybe the bottom lining of the sleeves. Do not make the full gown out of it.
If I could find the fabric, I planned on using it as an accent and not the whole dress. But now that I can't find the exact pattern in that color I will have to see if I find a color combo I do like, or just keep looking for the next "me!" fabric that jumps out at me. My home fair is MDRF and I won't have to have a heat stroke by wearing non-breathable fabrics.
