Title: New Flask Policy At CORF
Post by: Norfolk on June 27, 2011, 10:49:39 AM
Listen carefully, all of you Rendezvous attendees:  Last weekend, a patron attempted to smuggle a backpack full of beer onto the site.  He was caught in the attempt, and now management has tightened gate security DRAMATICALLY.  Purses, strollers, knapsacks, etc. are being checked, sometimes by Sheriff's Deputies, and ALL drink and food items are being denied entry or confiscated.  This includes even bottles of water.

How long this will continue is anyone's guess.

Enough said?

Great.   ::) Does the Faire have non-alcoholic/non-carbonated beverages?  My 10YO daughter doesn't like soda & of course cannot drink alcohol. I usually bring her in a few juice boxes so she doesn't get dehydrated (although she does love water).

Time to get that garter flask stitched up then. I presume they haven't resorted to checking up our skirts yet? ;)

Thank you so much for this warning Baron i know you guys signaled me this before i went in the gate yesterday. I will say they did not search my big buffalo bag but i saw them checking other bags, one guy had the camel backpack that they checked i didn't stay at the gate to see if they didn't let him take it in.

Cowgrrl they have bottles of water at $2.25, also have ice tea and lemonade. Also i remember seeing one drink faucet at the real rose jewelry at the top of the hill straight up from front gate.

Trish i will volunteer to make sure the flask is secure in your garter for you.

My advise is don't flaunt that you have something.

Oh also if you try to walk out the gate with a drink in your hand they will stop you, if its water or soda they will just let you go but Liqour can not be carried out the gate even at closing in a cup.

Are they checking flasks that are on one's belt?  Are they checking side pouches?

I would imagine after the first dozen patrons have to be carted out because of dehydration because they can't afford to buy the water, and they don't have enough fountains around the grounds, they might just be willing to lift the water bottle restriction...  How can a Faire, of all places, only have one drinking fountain?!?

We were actually planning on having camels—with water, believe it or not—to ward off the dehydration that we've been cautioned about.  Bummer!  Well, thanks for the warning...

 >:( >:( >:(

\rant  I'm sorry, but not allowing even bottles of water to be carried in is just plain idiocy, especially when the expected high temps are in the upper 80s.  Do they really have that many beds in the First Aid tent  ???   I think they are just trying to make more $$$ when it's hot out by selling more bottled water.  I can understand not allowing any type of alcohol, but hell, even the Rangers Ballpark allows people to bring plastic bottles of water, soda, juice or whatever, as long as the cooler fits under your seat.

I feel inclined to pack as much as I can into my sporran and pouch, or at the very least bring my wooden mug in FULL of ice.

Once again, common sense fails us as a "no tolerance policy" is enacted by fools.  I hope the PTB are reading this....\rant

If the TSA were manning the gate, the flasks and waterbottles would be banned, but we could pass through the gates with machine guns and flame throwers. :)

I would point out that the water in the sinks in the flush privies is also drinkable. It's the same water that comes out of the drinking fountains.

Speaking of which:

There are 3 sets of flushable privies in the kingdom. These are located: Far side of the jousting field, near the petting zoo; just past the mermaid fountain, across from stake on a steak and the Globe theater; and next to the elephant ride. Any other privy on the map is a port-a-john.

Ladies in hoops, I suggest the joust privies. They are the handicap accessible ones and therefore bigger. Ladies not in hoops, I suggest the second door of the steak on a stake ones, the lines are shorter, everyone stops at the first door. Men...I got nothing.

The camel has but one hump, the dromedary two.
Perhaps its the other way around.

important to note, that nothing about this policy is NEW. it has been the policy for as long as I can remember.
as with many policy's that are loosely enforced, people took advantage, abuse became blatant and excessive, and managemet cracked down. want someone to blame?  blame the stupid people who don't understand the word 'discrete'.  Blame the people who try to swear "it's just a snack for my baby!" (really?  you brought your infant a sub sandwich and a family size bag of cheetos? really?).  Blame the people who think rules should not apply to them, like the people who snuck in their DOG in a purse. Like the people who brought in a TENT and put it up at joust.
No one is shocked when they search your bags at disneyland or other amusement park, or at a concert, or any other similar festival type venue.  No one would think to bring their own food to a restraunt (where they sell food, just like we do) and expect the staff to clean up after them.  you are still welcome to leave a cooler in your car   and picnic in the parking lot. you can come and go as many times as you wish.
and Please, do not abuse the gate staff. they are doing their jobs as they are instructed.

Wiki says the dromedary (or Arabian) camel has one, the bactrian camel has two.  If you are believing Wiki, ancestors of the modern camel evolved in North America (!) and later spread to Asia.

BTW, I wish you and the Don were joining us in Colorado!

Never abuse the gate staff!!  They are just the messengers.  Discretion and courtesy are the best ways to help gate staff do their job and still allow you to have your way.

Sorry for the double post, but I have no doubt that it's not a new policy, Hey. Not bringing in food and drink is pretty much S.O.P. at any place that sells it! It only makes sense.  I also have no doubt that there were those that totally abused any blind eye that may have been turned. Seems there's always going to be at least one jerk.

Nim and I have to travel with our own water. We've been terribly ill from water that our systems weren't used to in the past, and there's no way I'll chance going through that again, especially 1000 miles from home. I guess we have sensitive systems.  As far as food is concerned, I'm looking forward to sampling the faire's fare!  That's just one of the things we like to do!

As long as the gate staff doesn't try to strip search me, we'll get along famously! I've been in the hospitality business in the past. There is no way I'm going to abuse the staff.

Thank you so much for your words Hey.

To be honest when it comes to food and drink the prices at our faire are pretty average or even below average. Our turkey legs are only $5.50 and from what i saw being handed out they are also on steroids.

So come enjoy have some drink and food see some entertainment and have fun.

Oh and the word for the weekend is Discret

I asked Betty and she said "sealed water bottles only."

I don't think they're going to be too picky about camel packs or a refillable water bottle but if you don't want to risk it, factory sealed water bottles only.

I'm pretty inclined to say they're going to ask you to dump the ice out. But, hey, it's worth a try as long as you don't intend to get fussy if you get asked to lose the ice.

You can go back the car as much as you want. And if you get there early, it's not so far. I usually leave my cloak in the car until it rains. And on days I'm prepared, I leave water and a Dr. Pepper in there too!

Its always a shame when one person has to ruin it for everyone! But at my home faire, KCRF, it is just like CORF, even if you park in Siberia cause you get there late, it is still a mere 2 minute walk to the car. Keep an ice chest and come and go as you please!
