It's a comin' FAST!! Like a runaway train!!!! I saw the all call the other day on yahoo for gardeners to come out and help get the grounds ready. So go time isn't too far off!!!
Can't believe it's a month and a couple weeks away!! I'm so excited and more than ready to go home again!! :-D
46 DAYS! Weekends are awesome, so let's not have them count against us - that makes it just 34 ordinary days ;D
I hope that Fall weather follows our countdown too! Has anyone else had enough of this heat? 8)

I hate summer heat with a passion, only like winter and fall. You going to the coronation for King Edward? I just got my invite. Doubtful I will make it though.

Yippee!! I don't think Wednesday should count either...it's spelled funny! By the time we're done with this, RenFest will be tomorrow! JOY :D
they are doing a coronation for King Edward on August 13th at some church in the area, I will try and post info. I think anyone can go. They do a cornation each season for their new royalty

I haven't seen an official announcement, but I called the nice folks at the KCRF sales & they coveyed the following:
Coronation with refreshments to follow
Trinity United Methodist Church
620 E. Armor Blvd. (KC, MO)
Saturday, August 13, 2011
3:30 - 6:30pm
All are invited
you going?

I should save my gas money for Festival, but am sorely tempted. I'll let you know if I am - it would be nice to meet a fellow R/F'er! :)
Im flying back from Texas August 12th (I go to school in Manhattan, family is from Texas), but my boyfriend's family is having a big party on the 13th :( I desperately want to go to the coronation, just saw it on Facebook, but I don't think I will be able to.

Doubtful I will make it out, almost zero chance. BUT, Columbus Day Weekend should be my weekend as usual, generally I come out that Saturday and that Monday. So would be happy to meet up if you are in that weekend. Are you a facebooker? Love making friends with fellow rennies!
Anyone going to the mini faire August 17th? They just posted it on the KCRF facebook page a while ago. I went last year and had a blast. We even got free tickets for any weekend. It's free any only lasted about 2 hours (which is good, considering the heat!)

We (a few of us) normally come on that weekend, but there is a car race that weekend and a hotel was not to be found within an hour. Does the race affect the faire, since it is quite close?

Traffic & noise, yes. I travel in the morning from the east & there is always a humongous line at that exit. :o All of us driving by have to take a look which slows the whole thing down. So if I want to hear the opening cannon on race weekend, I head out a little earlier.
Once you are IN the faire you can hear "RRRRrrrrrrrmmmmm! RRRRrrrrrrrmmmmm!" (doppler effect!) I'm usually so immersed in faire-frolicking that I don't notice until someone says something like, "Did you hear the dragons?!" :D
old fogey, my Mother is on FB at 58, my friend Jack is on there at 71, and another lady Vivian I know from my gingerbread business is 78, and posting away!
Blaaah, I can't go to the coronation or the mini faire! Mini faire is the Wednesday before school starts and things are so hectic. But, if anyone else can, I really recommend it :) it was a lot of fun.

Unfortunately, yes :(. Like I said, I'm in school and for this semester, I have all of 2 free weekends not counting renfest weekend, what with work, rehearsals, and other plans.
In other news, is anyone going to the Wichita Steampunk expo on November 4th-6th? That's one of my other plans. This is their second year I believe. I'm not sure how well it was last year, but I'm excited to go this year!

Merlin!!!! I love the rare occasion you come over to our KCRF boards!!! And yes, you should get on there. Then you could see photos of me as Merlin in my early twenties.
I check pretty much all of the faire boards from time-to-time. I like to get a sense of the people. KCRF is on my list to visit—it's just a question of when. It won't be this year because of some other traveling I have to be doing, and I don't think I could physically handle another hot faire this year anyway. Even Colorado took a toll on us this year.
KCRF is the third closest major faire to us. I would be most inclined to visit toward/at the end of the run.

I usually reccomend people to go to the NASCAR weekends, faire isnt as busy because everyone thinks Neckcar will drive everyone away what with clogging the freeways and the area in general, it is always easier on faire actually. Merlin let me know if you ever do make it out. KCRF it's last 3 weekends isn't usually too hot. Opening weekend, 2nd, and 3rd generally are ridiculous, I have NO IDEA how they even open with characters roaming around in heavy period dress when it's 105!! Two years ago on closing weekend the high temp was 32. I loved it.

KFC, umm, NO!!! if i am anywhere NEAR kc, i am hitting up strouds, not kfc!
Strouds isn't near as good since they moved it off from Troost. I've only been there once since the move, and am so disappointed that I will not be back. Go to Jack Stack in Martin City!!!!
negative. oak ridge manor strouds has been in the same spot for 50 years and is just as good as it always was. AMAZING CHICKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, I think if I eat anywhere outside of Canterbury (or that QT station right outside of the park - ha!) it will be for some famous KC Barbeque!
P.S. 28 days!!!!! ;D
Hey, bro! I specified the one on Troost! Never been to the one up North. The Troost one moved to Shawnee Mission, and isn't as good.
But, based on your recommendation, I'll give Stroud's one last try, but at the Northern (Oak Ridge Manor) location. Thanks for the glimmer of hope!

yeah, havent tried the new one in KansASS. and since I hate kansas with a passion beyond Canterbury, cannot see myself ever going! my wife and i had one of our first dates at the old south locale. but yes, try oak ridge. been the same forever. i always thought it was superior to the south one back in the day, actually!!!! so give it a shot.
Tamtaro, yes, agreed. good ole kc barbecue. but there is something to be said for the fountain sodas at the QT! vanilla diet dp, mmmmmmmmmmmm!~
i see how it is, mr. KANSAS City Missouri. Maybe my state will just take its city's name back, then...
umm, yeah, perhaps you need a history lesson TKM. see where the name kansas came from, a place called the town of kansas, that was, in, umm, yeah, MISSOURI!!!!!!!!!!
we've been over this before. nothing personal dude. the state tends to leech a tad off the MO side. if you don't believe me, look at all the companies that move to joco and wyco, they all come from KCMO and all come thanks to tax breaks. that is creating blight and ghetto on the KCMO side, and ain't right. luckily the new mayor of KCMO has been fighting back, i just hope he can keep AMC from jumping ship!
ha you can keep AMC. i love the cinemark in merriam just fine. but either way, yeah. sounds to me like you just hate kansas for lowering taxes. just because nearby business jump an the most opportunistic bandwagon, doesnt really seem right to criticize one state so highly over its finances like that. but i dunno.
I'm originally from Texas and my friends give me crap all the time for it ;D Like the first time I heard my friends say 'pop', like "Want a can of pop?" I had no idea they said that in Kansas, I thought it was a really northern thing! We call it coke down here, no matter what it is (aside from fruit sodas I guess)
"Would you like a coke?"
"Sure, what do you have?"
"We've got Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, Sprite, and...Coke"
My Kansas friends had a hissy over this, but if you think about it, Band Aid and Kleenex are both brand names, but a lot of people ask for or offer these to people even if they are not the exact brand! That's my defense, anyways.
Anywho, I'm constantly on the look out for "my state's better than yours" for them as well9as are my friends) . I tried finding chocolate chocolate chip muffins but all they had were vanilla and chocolate chip ones at 2 different walmarts in Kansas, but the second I go to an HEB in Texas, they had them! Score :P
But no matter where you are, KCRF is so close! (I mean as in it will be open soon, it's not very close for me ATM as I'm in Houston) so get ready guys!

its called a corporation named AMC. they have over 1,000 employees in a very large building in downtown KC.
and you should REALLY read up on it. they give away the farm by offering tax breaks to companies from KCMO hoping the citzens move with the company. if they do, it ends up being a net gain. if they dont, it doesnt help. if you follow the news, I do, you will notice they just proposed raising property taxes in OPKS by 18.7% because of all the taxes they give away to land corporations. i am hating kansASS because i wish they would try and do what other cities and states do, look OUTSIDE their own metro for new companies and new opportunities. i grew up in KCMO wayyyyy before you were even thought of, and I can promise you all KS leaching and enticing companies across the line does is hurt the metro as a whole and further destroy the inner city even further. if you would go to the center of KCMO, its urban core, you would see where it hurts the most. the southern part of the city has long been dead, and when the companies leave and take their employees, ummm, who is left to finance the city and its needs? no one! then it gets left to ROT!!!
but be sure and be happy kansASS is benefitting from this! i dont hate them for lowering taxes, i hate them for ruining the region as a whole, and even more so their own state. been to downtown KCK lately? they pay NO attention to it AT ALL. all the attention they give to WYCO, while kck, the part in kansASS, is left to rot!
oh yeah, and have i mentioned the county has been trying to run off the KCRF off the wyco grounds for years now so they can let some other developer come in and plow it down and make it into more shopping? great job KS!
I'm already picturing myself in the car on the way to Bonner Springs. When my sis still lived here, we would rock out to 80's songs all the way - haha! ;D Those 2+ hours would FLY by!
26 days!!!!!
I have a special playlist titled 'Renfest'. In high school I started listening to this band called Nightwish, it's like...opera metal music. I loved it and felt it really fit with faires. My friends and I would listen to it on the way to TRF, which was about an hour away. Now, if we're stating at my boyfriends house the night before, KCRF is like 10 minutes away so I barely get 1 song in before we're there!
i LOVE nightwish. if you like them, i can show you a whole list of things you'd probably love.
That's exciting! I saw them when they came to Houston and that's on my "top 5 best days ever" and once again in Oklahoma City. What do you recommend?
I love that you have an RF playlist! Boo to the short drive days! Ha! Actually, I'm jealous - 10 minutes! I'd actually make it on time :)
P.S. 25 more days!!
Well I actually live in Manhattan, but my boyfriend is from KC so we drive up there on friday night, then go to KCRF from there Saturday :D So, it's really more like 2 hours and 10 minutes. We usually get there around 11 or so though, I still can't convince my friends to stay the entire day :/
back when i was a youngster, I would drive to KCRF from my home in Washington, DC, 4 hours further east than Pittsburgh mind you! I would drive in two weekends a year, I would leave work around 6 or 7p on Sat, get to Canterbury around 9am after drving it straight, snooze in the parking lots til around 11am, then go enjoy the faire until the VERY LAST cannon fired!
Driving is so much harder these days! When I was a youngster, I would drive my horse and buggy into the wee hours with no problem. Now there are not enough starbucks doubleshots at the QT to keep me awake. I like sleeeeeping!!! I also like staying the whole day or at least as long as my chubby little legs will carry me! :P
yeah, getting older you need more sleep, that is true!
I don't just need sleep, I love it!! I'm going to take a nap in a sky chair this year. They may suspect when I come up to the booth with a blanket. ;D
Hey everyone - 21 days!! Soon we'll be posting thoughts and pictures from KCRF!! Huzzah!
Hey kcdcchef - are you going to hit PARF? (so you can get a fix before Columbus Day? - the countdown is almost cruel!)
if I hit a faire before KCRF it would be the Ohio one or the Pittsburgh one. PARF is always closing weekend, Halloween weekend. So fun! Something to be said for being there on closing weekend and seeing the best of everyone's acts.

The weather must be fabulous by then! I'm imagining all the Eastern colorful trees - so pretty! And wearing a cloak! I made one, but I never get to wear it! I run warm to begin with. Although that one weekend that was so bitterly cold (in 2009?), it was like wearing the Emperor's New Cloak! A little breezy ;D

I was there that weekend in 2009, it was 38F, my God I loved it, it was AMAZING!!!!
yeah, we always get the good foliage for our closing weekend trip. One year fall was still ongoing when a massive cold front rolled in, I think it was 2009 actually. And on our drive east we encountered all in one. As we would come around corners, the botom halves of trees were frozen solid and top halves were still in fall colors. And in an area like Pennsylvania that is mountainous, those bottoms and tops are pretty darned tall!
Oh! I would so love that! Nim wouldn't like the cold so much, but I would really get off on it!
I am not sure if I will change as I age, we all do I suppose, but I simply adore the cold and hate the heat. With a passion.
Well, as I approach 1060 year old, I still like the cold. In a year or two, who knows...things may change. I, too, hate the heat.

I just noticed there is hate in heat :)

Although, some (not me :'() will be going to Mini-Faire tomorrow.
Did anyone go to the coronation on Saturday?

It just so happens that one of Nim's nieces is getting
shackled married that weekend, else we'd be sorely tempted. The trip would be at or less than seven hours in Google Earth time.
15 days!!!!
How was the mini-faire Butch & Delireus?
The mini faire was great! A whole host of brand new villagers. By that I mean new people playing characters; not as many faces that you will recognize. Sure, the Queen is the same, and the King was the Prince from the Cinderella story last year, but many new cast members! Should be really good!
I had even more fun than last year! Things were a bit different with the set up, we waited outside the gates this time, last time we sat at Merlin's Berm, but this time we sat outside the gates while Jim gave directions. My boyfriend and I went last year, but this time we brought our friend along. We all sat together, right to the left of the gates.
The cast was great! It was the funniest thing. Two of the gypsies came up, both male (and hot!) and asked my friend and I if we were single. I told them about my boyfriend, who was right next to me, but my friend was single. One of the gypsies told his friend he was going to teach him how to woo a woman. He knelt, took her hand, and said the sweetest thing to her! Compared her to an angle, it was so romantic. He then kissed her hand and told his friend to practice on me.
His friend kneels, and goes "YOU ARE VERY PRETTY!" and his friend is like "Ok good, but a little less fierce" so he goes "YOU LOOK LIKE A DANDELION!" and of course I am cracking up! They turn to my boyfriend and ask him how he woo-ed me. My boyfriend goes "You see, you reach into your back pocket and pull out your pocket book, and it all depends on the thickness of that!" It was hysterical, especially when the gypsies bowed to him! Oh it was a blast. My friend and I were asked to play musical benches with another man by two ladies on cast, while my boyfriend sang.
After an hour or so, everyone went to sit at Merlin's Berm and Jim asked if anyone had suggestions to the cast. There were things like "don't ignore the children, make sure you have a reason to approach people, talk TO the people and not just to your partner on cast" We noticed one guy had Harley Davidson boots (we could tell by the bright orange sole!), you could see his tall tube socks under his hose, and he had a blue elastic hair band in his hair. But I'm sure by opening he will be all good! But yes, it was so fun.
The only problem is that the free tickets we got are only good for the first 3 weekends and we are going on the 4th one! Last year, the tickets were good for any weekend. I hope to call them tomorrow and see if...i don't know, if something can be done, but if not..I may have 3 free tickets good for the first 3 weekends XD (anyone know why EVERY promotion on their facebook page is only good for the first 3 weekends?)
Oh I can answer that, the hardest 3 weekends of the season to draw a crowd are the first 3. Usually hot and stuff so its hard.
Thanks for sharing about mini-faire - I look forward to seeing the new faces. I have been looking at some pictures from over the years & it's fun to see the actors in different roles.
Delireus - love the stories! Your boyfriend is either a good sport or a rennie himself! (and Huzzah! for the cute gypsies - eye candy for everyone! Tee hee ;D)
I like the violins and drums accompanying the gypsies and fairies. I really like hearing ren fest music in the lanes.
oh, the sights and sounds of canterbury in full swing. i cannot wait.
In two weeks, we'll be walking through the gates!!!!
TWO. WEEKS!!!!!!!

I love your army of happiness!! Yay yay yay!
I will be there opening day until about noon, then have to work. I will NOT be there Sunday or Labor Day, as I will be going to the Great White North (eh?) to the MN Ren Fest! I should be at our KCRF about every day for the rest of the season, though!

Up nort' eh? Sounds fun! (doncha' kno! :D)
Is your work AT the faire or do you have to leave Canterbury?
I work 4-midnight Sat and Sun in Lees Summit. OTHERWISE, I would have auditioned for cast this year! Alas. I figure I can be there most days from opening until 12 or 1. Just can't drink, which is fine.
NEXT WEEK!!! NEXT WEEK!!! Faire opens NEXT WEEK!!! Yaaaaaaaaayyy!!!! ;D ;D ;D
Eeee, exciting!
So, I have 2, possibly 3, but definitely 2 free tickets to the Kansas City renfest, good ONLY for the weekends of September 3rd, 4th and 5th (I think the 5th is labor day) 10th and 11th, and the 17th and 18th. It says it's premier complimentary, with a $18.95 value and resale is strictly forbidden. I'm not selling it in any way, my friends and I just got them when we went to the mini faire and sadly we can't go till the 24th.
If I mail them out soon, you can have them by...Friday? I don't know how fast mail goes, but hopefully. The 3rd ticket is my friends and I'm waiting to hear back from her to see if she's got any plans for it, but she's going with us, so unless she knows someone she wants to give hers to, I'll probably have 3 to give away. Anyone want them or know anyone who knows someone who does? I'm in Manhattan, so hopefully mail wont take too long! PM me if you want them and have a great time on opening weekend, guys!

9 DAYS!!!!
WHEE!! ;D
We've finally gotten our scheduled together and will be invading from Denver for opening weekend. Yea! Look forward to seeing the faire and the people again this year.

I think it's close enough to say that there is only a week to go before opening weekend!
One Week Left!! (it sounds shorter than 7 days...) :D
Super excited for next weekend...but also kind of panicking right now. I've just been moved to full-time work at the department store I've been at for almost a year. I had talked to my new manager about needing the faire weekends off, at least the Sundays, and offered to work past 6 pm the Saturdays, and she said that would work. I just got my schedule for the 10th, and I'm scheduled to work at 2 pm!! >< I literally just got a performer's contract for faire too, so I'm required by contract to be at faire...I'm SO hoping it's just a misunderstanding, because my manager told me the weekends I needed off were all right at my interview...but ugh, if I have to miss faire now... :'( :'(
I know how you feel, Anir~. When I got my permanent schedule last Feb, I was a bit aggravated at having to work Sat and Sun from 4-midnight. It's OK, though. I can be in Canterbury from open until 12 or 1.
that sucks! i used to lament i only got one weekend in canterbury, now i am happy i at least get the one!
The thing with work was only a misunderstanding; it should be fixed soon! I should only have to leave faire at 4:30 or so on the Saturdays I work! HUZZAH!!
I can't believe it's a week away. So happy...so excited...so ready to return home!!! :D <3
Ok, I am out of tickets and I'm almost out of patience waiting for my weekend of faire!
It's here!! (I don't want to countdown anymore!) I have to cash in the change jar for some Ren Fest money!! That or sell a kidney...
Plasma, sell plasma.
Just once in my life, I want to go to KCRF on opening day early in the morning. Just to see what it feels like. I just have this phobia of being in KC in September! ( looking like a cooked lobster with the sun and all, sucks. )
Opening day is forcasted to be mostly sunny with a high of 87. Come on out! We've made the weather nice for you!

Wow! I am at the wrong festival!! Weather.com is now saying 90 for Canterbury on Saturday - blarg :P Sunday and Monday, though, will be in the upper 70s! Sweet! I'll only be there on Saturday though. Sweat! :D
TWO DAYS AND A HALF HOUR!!!! TWO DAYS AND A HALF HOUR!!!

you guys have fun this weekend!!! keep canterbury looking good for me - for my weekend!
Because of the sweltry weather predicted for Saturday, my group has decided to go on Monday. That's almost a 20 degree difference!! I've never been on a Monday before! (have you? is it the same?) I can't believe it's almost the weekend!! WHEE!! ;D

been on Labor Day Monday, it's identical, no different. Usually go Columbus Day Monday, always a different feel. Closes early, acts are more PG-13, not the same.

Thank you for the Monday info!! I want the nice weather, but I didn't want to sacrifice the experience of a "real" day (as opposed to a fake day?? :D).

you'll be good. Labor Day is like any other day there. and even Columbus Day while marginally different is still pretty close.
Oh my gosh you guys!! Tomorrow is the first day of KCRF!!!! It's here! It's here! Our countdown thread is almost done for the start of 2011, but there are still countdowns to big weekends - it seems like a lot of people are attending weekend #4 (sept 24 & 25) & of course the other 3-day weekend #6. I'm not attending opening day, but will definitely hit Monday and am SOOOOOOOO pee-my-pants excited!! You ain't cool 'less you pee your pants! (thank you Billy Madison)
TOMORROW!! TOMORROW!! I LOVE YA, TOMORROW!! FAIRE'S ONLY A DAYYY AAAAWWWAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!

::JUMPS UP AND DOWN!!:::
The day is FINALLY here!!!
I leave in a few hours for faire!!!!!!!!
The bad thing is, there's a fifty percent chance of nasty wet stuff dropping from clouds this afternoon. But at least the morning should be dry and lovely! And said nasty stuff will cool us all way down!! :-)
HIP, HIP, HUZZAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
I will see you there!
Have a great time today guys! Do post pics :D
Had a great time! Many new faces. Crowd was kinda light today, probably because of the heat. The Robin Hood scenario is interesting, but I feel the opening show is a bit long. This year there are MANY princesses, all looking for suitors. Beerside Scoundrels have a new lineup, but didn't get a chance to catch them today. Saw Ogrot's new show, it's not bad. Gary Siler is back, same spot, same excellent music. Didn't see any R/F'ers today, but the season is still young!
Alright, no more KCRF for me until next weekend! I see the Ladies of the Salty Kiss will be visiting then, and I will be sure to catch them!
