Wow. Congrats and good luck. Hopefully I will remember next Friday and tune in.
We're not up and running as of yet. We should go live in the next couple of weeks. The interesting thing will be see which DJ goes crazy first. We're in a tiny little room which someone has painted completely red. Like RED RED. My first thoughts were where are those two red headed twins cause I felt like I was in The Shining. But thank you.
Also if there is anyone in particular everyone loves listening to let me know. I have over 7Gbs of music for the show, but I know I don't have anywhere near them all.
Congrats on the show! Do you have songs in your inventory from groups that perform at TRF? Would also love to hear The Limeybirds, Medieaval Baebes, Dubliners, Minstrels of Mayhem and Corsairs.

I have a few songs here and there but nearly as much as I like for the local TRF groups. I'm still searching online, but a good portion of my buying this season will CDs at TRF. I always mean to see more shows but too often find myself drinking in the Prince like a pirate is want to do lol
You may want to see if you can get in touch with the guy who runs renradio on live365.com he may be able to give you some good ideas.
Congrats on the show and I'll be watching to see when you have your first show!
Following on Twitter - Good luck JG
I can put you in touch with the original owner of Renradio.
I can't thank everyone for all their support. What would help is if you do plan on listening what some are the songs you're more than likely to request. That way I can make sure I have them
Well then... Good luck in the RED room. I hope you arent the first to go crazy in there. And I am following on FB so please post when it goes live.
I'd say lots of Medieval music, Abney Park, some Clannad, and Flogging Molly :D
That sounds really cool! I'm looking forward to tuning in!

There definitely will be that. Great news is that there is a brand new Chameleon Circuit that just came out. This is a happy day!
We have another meeting on Tuesday so hopefully I can come back with some more timeline news
You might also contact as many Faire acts as you can, either through facebook or official webpages, and ask if they would like to contribute a cd or two to be played on your show. I'm sure there are plenty who would highly value the exposure, and be happy to oblige...

Done.
Rani, I was thinking about that. That's the toughest thing about this whole process. The school isn't supplying any music, we are. Lord knows I've spent about $300 this past month on iTunes between the two shows. I thought of doing like you asked but figured I should wait until it's actually up and running before I attempt to solicit anyone for music.
Well, you can at least start drafting the message you will use, and assembling all the contact info, while you wait! Nothing like a little proactive activity to keep your enthusiasm up... not that you need any extra, of course... ;) :D
It may be interesting to see with how many show slots I end up with. We've already lost one or two DJs via apathy. It sounds good to them, but only a few of us have actually put in any time towards our show. Hell out of everyone I think the only DJs who know exactly what they're doing and what their show is are the people who helped get this off the ground and myself. So as more fall by the wayside I may end up with more time, which I can never have enough of lol
As long as it doesn't cut into Faire time!!!

It cuts into any possibly camping on Friday time but as of now that's it.
Just come out on Thursday and set your camp, then you can just drive on out Friday night after the show and everything will be ready... ;D

If only it were possible...if only. Student funded radio stations don't get all the fancy contraptions as others...HOWEVER...I just MIGHT be able to snag something to do interviews at faire. Now THAT will be interesting...hehehe
Oh! Play some Blind Guardian (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nna0-SQPH2o&feature=related), please!!!

I do have the Wheel of Time song that will be played if not before definitely the week the new book comes out.
UPDATE-We're still waiting on some equipment and network related issues to be resolved. I believe we are still on target for the first week of school, if not sooner.
UPDATE 2-So I may have convinced the powers that be at the station to allow me to have an "event". September 19th as we all know is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. If we get the equipment to broadcast outside the studio then I may be having a special show that day either on campus or in the campus pub. I of course will be in full regalia but I was curious if any here would be interested in joining me...especially if it's in the pub lol
Wait... you have a PUB... on campus?!? :o
I wanna go to your school!!!
In 1971, the school I was attending—a Catholic college in Memphis—they opened a bar & grill in the student center. It made a difference that legal drinking age in Tennessee at the time was 18. They only served beer, but still, it was pretty nice since my dorm room was maybe 75 yards from the student center.
It may have been covered in another portion of this thread(I have not read the whole thing) but how about some gypsy music. I lady named Mariah attended TNRF some time back and she was fantastic on the violin. I have a tape of hers that I play constantly. Also Labirynthe is another group out of Nashville Tn.
UPDATE TIME
So we've been delayed and delayed and delayed all August long. Apparently someone at school has been dragging their feet and the Producers finally got to talk to the administration this morning and got it worked out. So I believe we are going live this weekend/next Monday, but our software to play mp3s has not arrived and won't for a few weeks. So until then we have to do it "old school" and use CDs.
What this means.
Any requests you need to make before Fridays so it is on the CD. We're doing pre-made set lists until we finally get this software issue resolved. Luckily I foresaw this and have been ready to go for over a week now. This first show is going to present the various styles of music that I will be playing. In the future what is requested is what will be played...hint hint you want more ren faire music request more ren faire music lol. Thanks for your time everyone

I will once I get the "official" link.
Still waiting for the formal announcement. From what I understand though you can plan on...let's just say the Friday before the next Holiday weekend for the show premier. I think that's vague enough, maybe. I never said a thing. What I can tell you are some of the music you'll be hearing.
4 Irish Whiskey, Clann An Drumma, The Pyrates Royale, Bedlam Bards, Maiden IV, and The Whiskey Bards all open the show.
Sounds like a good line up for the inaugural show
I have out my mug of rum n coke and loki bottle ... just waiting for ren fest to start on my computer ...
Oh yeah ... and waiting for the link.
Will you be able to play some bagpipes and drums?
Apparently I should have just waited a few hours, cause they officially made the announcement (FINALLY).
As of August 29th at 8am to quote Bruce Buffer WE ARE LIVE!
Here is the link
http://www.coogradio.com/
Now then we are still waiting for the hard drives and what not to be installed so the set lists this first week and probably the second week will be CD based and predetermined. Once we're running off the computer then I'll be able to take requests during the show. The best place for this is the twitter account
http://twitter.com/#!/TheSaxonFiles
or the Facebook Page
http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Saxon-Files/218809501494914
That being said these first two shows are going to be very varied since I have to show all the various types of music I will play. I am however starting the show off with "Ren Faire" style music and plan to do so for the immediate future until I have a real idea of who exactly is listening and what they want to hear. I can't wait and thank you all for your support.
Huzzah!!! Will you be opening with a cannon, by any chance?!? ;D

Yeah sorry bout that. One of managements "ideas". Will be going back to what I was doing before next week after I proved my point lol
Better to have a "Whats Playing Now Stream" rather than running it through your normal stream. I like the normal stream to let me know you've started broadcasting and what the theme of the day is. In fact a scrolling list on the site would be even better. I always liked the radio stations that listed the current song playing as well as the last so many songs that were just played. That of course leads to the possibility of adding a "Buy on Amazon" or "Buy on CD Baby" button and get a little cash back (o:
We are working on the What's Playing Now feature. It likely won't come until we are playing off the computer though. Right now most people are playing off CDs and or their laptops.
Playing off the computer would definitely make that transition easier.
So I finally got to listen for a bit on Friday. Seemed pretty cool but since I don't watch much TV some of the songs were lost on me. But, I will listen in next week.
This coming week we will be back to the original format...until Halloween or so lol
Awesome!
This Friday I'll be able to listen to the whole show as I'll be on my way up to Dallas. So if I could have one request it'd be Black Leather Band, preferably by the Bedlam Bards...but I'm not picky...well sometimes... ;D
We are live! I hope LadyJessica is listening in as her request is in the first set!
WewT!!! It's good to have Jayne on your side!!! ROFL
Those who were listening know this but next week I will be doing a ren faire show in celebration of Opening Weekend. Maybe KP or someone will have it playing out in the campgrounds, that would be awesome. But I am now taking requests for that show so what are your favorite "ren music" that you want to hear on the show?
Made it to Dallas and I was just outside of Madisonville when I heard my song! I was singing at the top of my lungs and smiling the whole time! Thanks Jack!
I may have missed it somewhere in this post, but do you have a podcast or something like that coming out soon?

I'm waiting for the podcast too as the hole I punched has been temporarily plugged.
Hey Captn Jack - Perhaps since I mainly about the inter-networked world - Are you broadcasting over the air waves as well ? Perhaps were such a lazy weed puller I could just check the website (o:
No we don't have any over the air and likely won't. Hell right now we don't even have a budget lol.
I asked about the podcast situation last week at our big meeting. Yes, they are working on it. But I got the impression they're working on it like the US is "working" on a high speed rail system.
Bummer - On both accounts.
A reminder that our show this evening (at 5) is nothing but rennie music in celebration of this weekend. May go longer if the folks after me don't show up again.
Yea! I'll be listening!
I'll try... although it's kind of a difficult day for it.
It's the squid king! Straight from hell!
Oh, I didn't get to listen to the show today... :( I bet it was great, though, as usual!!!
So I need help folks. This Friday I've agreed to cover the shift after me. This means my show is now SIX HOURS LONG. So I am taking requests if you have any. Cool thing is apparently there's going to be a film crew there and I'm going to be on PBS or some such. Can't worry about that right now, I need to fill a six hour show! lol
Sure wish I could listen. I'll be stuck in an internet-less testing facility. No internet radio for me.

It's just going to be a regular show. For those that follow the twitter know I pretty much took all the bands/artists the show follows on Twitter and went and bought or put on songs of theirs I haven't played yet. I now have enough for a six hour show. I'm starting with the original show set for the first two hours and then we're jumping into the ones I added last night.
I have no idea what PBS will be doing other than they're doing a segment on the radio station. Lord knows the bosses probably won't let me speak to the media just tapped running the board. I mean, what's so wrong with me talking to the media...hehehe
I check twitter so seldom that I might as well not even be on there... The format kind of annoys me, actually. :-\
I'll make sure to listen to as much as I can tomorrow night!!!

Which format Twitter or the show? For the show it has such a wide variety of people who listen I try to keep the styles mixed up a bit, especially for this six hour show. There are listeners who have no desire for "faire" music to people who don't care for nerdcore. On the six hour show if I made solid blocks for the show I'd lose people left and right since the blocks would be so large.
I do have some great songs for tonight, especially one I've been waiting to play that I finally found on iTunes.
I believe she was referring to Twitter. I dont much care for Twitter either.
(Thread theft in progress)
The use of twitter is highly dependent upon the app you use to access it. I use TweetDeck for Chrome and I use the built in twitter app on my phone. Twitter is also useful if you can find people who share the same interests as you and who then share articles and links on that topic. That is basically all I use twitter for. One of those interests is the Saxon Files which lets me know when the show is starting and what each set will contain.
They did go a little overboard the first run out as they tweeted every song. That can kill a twitter stream. Glad they got away from doing that (o:
Twitter is not meant to stay in touch with your friends. For that we have Google Plus and that other service.
I was definitely referring to Twitter! I LOVE the Saxon Files!!!
I just don't like being so limited on the number of characters I'm allowed to use when posting. When I have something to say... it generally can't be said in 140 characters (and spaces) or less. :P :D

Quick FYI, no show this Friday. I have to accompany the missus to some Black tie British American Celebration thing Friday night.
Cheery-Oh Gov'na
Quick update everyone. With the change of the semester the show has been moved to Sunday nights instead of Friday nights. It's still 5-7pm just on Sunday now.
Perhaps a better time slot
Yea! That means I can acctually listen to it! My phone craps out on me in several areas on my way home so listening to it has always been iffy. But if it's Sunday night then I can listen while I play SWTOR!! =D
So after reading what i worte I realized just how geeky that is! =D
Not at all, I have to stop playing SWTOR to do the show lol
*runs another IV line and checks his catheter*
Wait, you stop playing SWTOR? That's possible? My hands are in a permanent ADWS arch of pain, and I see my Smuggler's hotkeyes imprinted on my retinas...
o.O
Now that the Super Bowl is over (and I'm no longer in the hospital cause of my appendix) we shall have our Faire-centric show in honor of Sherwood. This Sunday though I know many will actually be there I'll have nothing but Faire music on the show to celebrate Opening Weekend. So any requests are more than welcome.
Since I'll be stuck in Florida and not able to attend any faire, count on me to be listening.
Yup, I was at faire...I promise I'll listen again...one day...
I am attempting to figure out a way to podcast it myself, so there is hope lol

JG - Is your show still going?
Here's the current
Coog Radio Schedule (http://coogradio.com/schedule)
See, gone for a few days and I never saw this. It would explain one of the new likes on the FB page though. Yes, until the last week of August the show is still Sunday 5-7.
HOWEVER
I am moving to Tuesday nights 9pm-11pm starting August 28th. Those who really wanted to listen were able to a couple weeks ago and so I made then change. It's quite easy now, I'm in charge of the station and my profession is now known as herding cats aka college students. This should allow some of you to tune in much more than before.
Oh, and since I'm in charge (and we needed to spend our budget) we will be having podcast capability here within the next few weeks for those who cannot make it.
What I want Tuesday to be is more request since I seem to have many more "active" listeners at that time.
This Sunday though, since I just watch All's Faire in Love and my return to the forums, will be nothing be let's just call it OUR music. Rennie type music the entire show. Send in your requests now.
Awesome to hear JG. I was missing the daytime show because my corporate network wouldn't allow me to open the stream. Now I can listen at night before bed and all day the next day with the podcast. Luvvin it.
What are the chances I can get your stream through something like Ustream? Or some other Roku friendly app which would let us listen in our living room? If not I'll just have to crank up the computer speakers (o:
We are broadcasting on TuneIn. So there should be an app you can download to make that possible.

Awesome, So will you be doing requests via the forum again?
I can be on the forum this Sunday. Basically anything from the forums, posting on the FB page or via Twitter
Right, forgot about the twitter feed.
But I won't be around this sunday. Working at a customer site in Florida.
Of course if there's something you definitely want to hear Sunday the sooner you let me know the better so I can make sure I have it. I take requests all week long

Yes, it's working. Due to the time you posted it may have been when the school had a power outage but we are up and running now.
40 minutes till showtime. It's been a busy Sunday so today's Rennie day is set and very tight, hopefully I get everything played lol

What for the TuneIn? That would be out of our power lol.
It had to change because we had an incident. We had to fire a DJ for continually breaking the rules. His best friend was our web master so he basically scorched earth before he left. Now no students have control of things of that nature, but our IT guy's motivation is less than stellar. Trying to get our own stuff but it's a work in progress...
No, I'm not at home and tried to access from my laptop on the coog web page. The new player is a silverlight player. That means windows only. I'll give the TuneIn a try when I finally get home. Whenever that it is (o:
So I just wanted to let everyone know we are live right now. Rennie music at about 10:15-10:30 or so to close the show (extra long due to comp issues).
Good morning. Is there podcasts to this show? Or only streaming?

We will finally begin having podcasts...hopefully by the end of the month. Been trying to get everything set up but the software provider we're using are dragging their feet.
Time to begin your requests now. Next week is Pirate Week because of Talk Like A Pirate Day so the entire show will be buccaneer centric.
And with a little luck, a some boots to paychecks, it will be available on mixcloud afterwards.
So long as it's not silverlight also, that will be awesome (o:
I say play The Dread Crew of Oddwood...the rowdiest bunch of scallywags I've ever seen! :D Of course any Pirates Royale and Crimson Pirates would be good too!
Bounding Main, One of my new favorites
Luckily that is easily achieved. I would also suggest everyone look up The Mad Maggies, beautiful music.
KP, you're preaching to the choir. Previous administration decision, not mine.
Do you have any music from the Bawdy Buccaneers (http://www.bawdybuccaneers.com/)?

I got to know them a bit on the old "NERennies" forum, which has since been moved to the
NERennies Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/236041666416435/). Can't remember whether I was able to use PayPal, or just sent them a check, to purchase their CD's. I believe "Robertsgrave Thighbiter", of
The Brigands (http://thebrigands.com/) provided the studio and helped produce the Bawdy Buccaneers albums. Luisa Gladu (a.k.a.- Truly Scrumptious) has a really lovely voice.
I did a youtube rip to get Bawdy Buccaneers, and get two things for Oddwood. One a song, the other something I mashed together based on things they've done on video.
TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT!

Good News - Coogradio does stream to my PC here at work, so I'll be able to listen to the show tonight!
(A lot of the streaming music servers on the Internet appear to be blocked at work...)
Its not popular yet, wait till the whole world is listening, then those network nere do wells will shut it down like napster (o:

It probably wants silverlight, curse it. If you have a smart phone there is a tunein app. Just then search for coogradio

Ok, so is that file downloadable? Cuz it doesn't look like it. Are the coogs that worried about their radio shows being pirated?

Thanks but I'm good. I joined tunein so I can listen just about anywhere now, I just need to remember what days and times. I tuned in last night and did the WTF!?! look at the tv. Then came back to the forum only to find out I had missed it again.
At least I can still say I heard your inaugural show (o:
Thanks! Was listening to the podcast this morning while working. Good show!
Any who are still up, tonight's show is all Rennie music (currently Mishka's Dance by Wine & Alchemy)
Hopefully I will see many of you on Sunday
