Has anybody ever heard of this? I was looking it up online and STILL cant figure which "one" I am. :-\
Do any of you choose your colors by this?
Did any of you have your "colors" change when you got older?
I took this a LONG time ago and was very definitely an autumn. Now, none of them fit....
So, if you dont use this, how DO you choose your colors? There are some colors I like that look perfectly awful on me and others I hate even the sight of, that look awesome.
Yep, I am thoroughly confused. ::)
Its important right now because I am trying to find the BEST color for a gown that is going to cost me no little amount of money. I dont want to go through the whole process, get it and then think, YUCK....
Having sold Cosmetics many years ago, I learned that there are 2 major skin color tones...WARM and COOL.
COOL Skin tones have BLUE/PINK undertones in their skins. The SEASONS would be Summers and Winters. Therfore any color with Blue Undertones would work best for that skin tone.
Examples: Best Colors are Blues, Pinks, Mauves, Blood Reds, Black, White, Purples, Grays, soft Pastels, Deep Forrest Greens, Burgandy.
WARM Skin tones are GOLDEN/OLIVE undertones in their skins. SEASONS would be Springs and Autumns. I am an AUTUMN skin tone.
Examples: Best colors are Bright Reds, Olive Greens, Emerald Greens, Peach/Oranges, Mustard Gold, Russets, Teals, Creams, Browns
Knowing what your Season is to your Skin Color type is also helpful when wearing Mundane clothing, makeups, finishing touches, etc.
Someone who is a COOL skin tone wearing Olive Drab green would look like death warmed over or sallow.
When it comes to Garb, anything can go. It's a matter as to what is nearest the face that matters.
Thank you Lady Kathleen.:)
When I was younger, my skin wasnt like now, hence, I WAS an Autumn. Or could that only be because I spend most of my time outside?
I am very light skinned, the veins on my wrist look more blue than green. I blush more red/rosy than peach. (I am going by a site I was on.)
So, I would possibly be a winter or summer, if I have it right?
I didnt know it was what was nearest the face matters!! I thought it was an all over thing? Good to know.
Ok. A LITTLE less confused.
Lately the colors I am in love with are royal blues, dark forest greens and burgundies. I am not fond of pastels. People I know agree they dont flatter me at all.
Something else I heard was darker shades of color look better on older women. BUT I am not really sure if that makes sense...
I have heard that women can age into the next season. My friend was a winter until she reached 57 and then spring colors seemed to work better for her.
I am still an autumn though I can see how I could age into a winter.
I have been told that the basic test of your skin tone is how you look in pure white. Winter and spring can wear pure white shirts but summer and autumn look better in cream or off-white shirts.
That is why my chemises are a light cream color.
Thanks Dona, that's what I was wondering but hadnt read anything about it. So maybe I have aged into a winter....but thats okay. ;D
Summer Skin tones tend to be lighter haired(Blondes, Redheads, Light Browns), Blue ot Bluish Gray eyes.
Winters have darker hair, more Blackish/Brown to Black hair that grays beautifuly.
Autumn(for which I am one) have Redish/Dark Brown Hair or a deep Russet Red. Hazel to Brown eyes, to almost Black/Brown eyes. My once Dark Brown Hair with Red Copper highlights hair is really more Silver now than a few years ago. Yet, my skin tones have not changed, nor have my colors of clothing I wear. I still tend to wear the Fall colors, Creams, Tans, Teals, Reds, and so forth. If I wear a Black Suit, I wear a bouse or Shell that is Off-White Cream with splashes of reds and tans. Again, it's what's against the face that matters. (Mundane clothing I am referring to.)
I remember when "color seasons" first came out. My mom was way into it and insisted that we all figure out our color season. I don't remember what I was back then (30 years ago?) So I thought it would be intereting to take the 12 question test to find my color season.
I'm a deep autumn. I wear all of the suggested colors: deep brown, black, tomato red, emerald green, and rust.
Colors I'm to avoid: dusty or pale colors, which I look horrible in.

Lady Kathleen, what about if someone has medium brown hair with some silver in it and blue eyes? Hmmmm.....
I got brave and talked to a guy friend and he said what looked best on me were lots of different medium to darker blues, emerald or forest green and magenta. MAGENTA??? I have never worn that in my life, lol.
Again, it was also said if you blush PEACH, you are an autumn or a spring and if you blush more PINKISH RED, a winter or summer. Pinkish Red (I think?) for me.
Can people be combinations of seasons????
There be those who are considered NUETRAL. Certain colors look good on those considered WARM or COOL skin tones. Aqua, Teals, darker Greens, and certain shades of Purples. There are Purples I can wear with little difficultyif they have Gold undertones, but not Blue.
My daughter, who is an Autumn, can wear Black and not look deathly in it. That is because she is darker in skin color. She gets Bronze when she gets a bit of sun. Her husband is Cool and almost Blueish/White and sunburns very easily.
Next time you go shopping for clothing, find things with Warm and Cool undertones. See how they look against your face. You'll either look perky or sallow.
This thread got me curious, so I looked it up, and I'm not sure what I am. Maybe you all can help?
I think I'm a winter. I have naturally dark brown hair, though I get red highlights if I'm in the sun a lot (which I never am). My hair is currently somewhat reddish brown because I dyed it back in March, but overall, it's still dark.
I have extremely pale skin. I joke that I am translucent, because you can see all sorts of blue veins, especially in my arms. But at the same time, I tend to have a very ruddy complexion, particularly if I see too much sun, or if I am hot. My arms are also fairly freckly.
My eyes are a dark blue, tending towards blue-grey, but with gold circles.
I look good in jewel tones (doesn't everyone?). I especially love royal blue and that plum-ish/eggplant-ish purple that's been popular for the last couple years. However, I also look good wearing light blue, emerald green, ruby red, and black. I can't wear light browns, khaki colors, pale oranges, yellows, light greens, peach, light pinks, or any form of grey.
Not that I for sure am any expert but you DO sound like a winter to me. :)
You'd be a WINTER, Lady Rebecca.
