It's a show where 4 or so teams make crazy cakes based on a theme like roller derby, horse racing or, as in today's special, Renaissance festivals. They have 8 hours to make these cakes and the winner wins $10,000.
It's on right now, on the Food Network. Some people are doing molded people in scenes, but one woman is doing a traditional tiered cake based off of Elizabeth I's fashion. If they have videos online, I'll post them later, but it looks really cool, hope they rerun it!
Here's a small website about it - http://www.foodnetwork.com/food-network-challenge/renaissance-festival-cakes/index.html and they have rerun schedules to the left.
Does anyone reconize the Faire that they have been to? Yay I am stoked that they finally did this.
I don't, but I did see the washing well wenches, if that helps (which is doesn't, because they go all over!)
Ah, the special thanks credits said all footage was courtesy of the Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire, which I guess makes sense because the guest judge was the director of it, I believe.
What did everyone think of the judging? I thought the guy should have won! I loved his knight with the sneakers!! It really showed off how renfairs are a combo of the Renaissance with modern twist and it was just plain fun, which is the most important aspect of renfairs.
Ah, I loved the winner! I just...I did get how the second place really did capture the fun of faire, but i loved the little figurines in the tree in the winners.
Here are some terrible shots I took off my TV from the challenge. I couldn't find any images online except for 1 of the 3rd place. So sorry for the quality, I really underestimated how hard it is to get images off of the TV.
They don't do the cakes justice! I'm hoping in a few days the actual bakers will hae images up, but maybe there's some sort of legal issues and the Food Network won't let them. Who knows, but theres my album

I disagree with the winner (thought the guy should have won) but I completely agree with the last place finisher.. for exactly the reasons the judges gave.
