Hey everyone,
I just found the old(ish) thread about fans and parasols and a lot of the links are no longer working. People went out of business, etc.
Can we have another stab at it?
I'm in love with feather fans and crochet parasols, but I am not sure who to trust when buying. Or...perhaps I'll make my fans. But in any case, I need inspiration and that thread was amazing. Sadly, a lot of the links don't work anymore.
I try to use the rice paper parasols if I'm going for a more H/A look. You can get those for $5 or so at Hobby Lobby. My lace parasols are from around the world -my Dad brings them back for me. One is from Belgium and I think the other is from Aruba? I'm not sure.
Ebay, of course, has a lot for sale there. I was considering getting a red lace one from there.
I've never seen a crocheted parasol before. What materials is it made out of?
As for fans, I've become a fan of the flag fans. I also use my matching folding lace fan my Dad got me for 18th Century stuff mostly. I've found fans everywhere -from at the faire to online to my local 5 and dime store.
Try a google search or bing search to see what's there. That's how most of us found ours. ;D That, and ebay...and etsy.
Part of the reason I came here was ebay and etsy had too many options and I wanted some suggestions if someone had purchased from a specific vendor.
I was overwhelmed! That and I need something that is quality, so I hoped someone woul dhave rave reviews.
As for the crochet parasol, it's literally made out of whatever you use to crochet. The problem is I've only seen patterns sold, and I want one made...I can't crochet.
:S It's only for the sun, not for rain, so that part sucks, but...some of my corsets have hoods attached so it isn't a huge deal.
Just wante dot know if anyone has bought from someone and loved them!
U have the ostrich feathers on order, this may be simple, but what have you all used for the handles? I Suppose I can get something circular and just wrap it in some ribbon, but is there something more obvious that I'm missing? :D
John bought me a wonderful wood and canvas parasol which worked quite well in the rain as well. The canvas is plain, so if I get the desire, I may paint it.

As I said, I saw a huge thread on this, but most of the links don't work anymore.
I'll have to ask him. He bought it for me at Pennsic, but I don't know which shop. I may waterproof it, but I really don't plan on using it in the rain.

I'm just wanting to use it for the sun, it gets so darn hot during the summer and I'm wearing too many clothes! I'd love to have some shade!

I make my own feather fans. I use a wooden handled spatula as the base and hot glue my feathers to the business end of it. I wrap and glue ribbon to the handle and add some bling to the fan and that's it. Uber easy. :)

Under Fae's tutelage I made my own feather fan. I painted my handle instead of wrapping it in ribbon though. It was super easy.
