Can't do it with facebook. I don't think you can do it with myspace. IN the past you could not but I know they changed stuff since I was active there.

look under thier sahring option for a link that end with .jpg

profile pics need a link like this http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b275/renfairepic/events/cross-icon.jpg

If you look at the properties of an image on Facebook, you can actually link to it's location on the server.  I think the image would have to be a small enough size that the forum software would accept it as a profile picture.

For instance, this is the direct link to a larger-sized, un-cropped copy of the photo I'm using as my profile image -

Doing a Copy & Paste will work (as long as you copy the right thing, and paste it in the right place...  ;)  :D ).

Here's something to try -
(NOTE: I'm using the Mozilla Firefox browser.)

1.) Browse to the photo on your Facebook account that you'd like to use as a profile picture.
2.) Right-Click on the photo, and select "View Image Info".
3.) When the Image Info Box pops up, Right-Click on the highlighted line, and select "Copy".
4.) Browse to your RenFestForums Account Profile Settings (http://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php?action=profile).
5.) On the left side of the screen, under "Modify Profile", click on "Forum Profile Information".
6.) In the text-box beside the line "I have my own pic:", Right-Click, and select "Paste".
7.) On the Bottom-Right of the screen, click on "Change Profile".
8.) Check to see if there are any error messages about the photo size.
9.) If there aren't, you have succeeded in using a Facebook photo as your Forum Profile picture.
10.) If there are errors, edit the photo on your PC, and upload the new, smaller one to your Facebook album.  Then repeat steps 1 - 8.

Take Care,

Do you have your photo posted somewhere public?  That's the first issue!  Also, make sure you have cropped a copy of it square, otherwise when you post it here, it will make you either squashed horizontally or vertically.

If you can type in a URL and just see your picture such as:
http://www.oldmerlin.com/img/Avatar_08.jpg

then you can copy that URL into the spot where it says I have my own pic in your profile (Forum Profile Information).  If you can't get to your picture without being logged in, you won't have any luck posting it as an avatar here. It MUST be public!
