Title: Anyone else have this issue
Post by: ladybootlegger on September 02, 2011, 07:25:50 AM
The strangest thing happened to me the other day. My Brother sewing machine started sewing backwards! I can't get it to sew correctly anymore. I've tried everything I can think of, but it still is sewing backwards.

Has anyone else ever had this issue? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Sounds like it could be one of two things: a short somewhere in the eletricals, either in the foot control or the motor, or a stuck bit in the reverse.  If you have eletronic controls, it might be a problem there...

Whichever way it is, it's a trip o the repair shop, I'm afraid.

Did you hit the reverse button by mistake?  Sorry to sound like the tech guy when you call about computer trouble but it is the most common issue.

*sigh* I was afraid of that  :-\

The machine only cost me $80 to begin with (no selling for $130), and I can't afford to replace it at the moment. Nor can I really justify a trip to the shop.

Have you tried pushing your reverse lever down a few times? (I'm guessing you have.) Maybe you'll get lucky and it'll unstick whatever is stuck!

Sounds like a short of some kind.  I had that happen to a borrowed machine one time.  It was a POS but it DID work, if in reverse.  Because I  had to finish my item I just adapted.  I set the machine to very slow stitches, and started at the bottome and worked my way up slowly.  It wasn't ideal, but the job got done.  I wish you luck.

I havent had that problem with a Brother sewing machine. But with my last Simplicity sewing machine that happened a few times as it got older. It always happened shortly after using the reverse lever and took some playing with the lever to get it to sew right again. I ended up not using the lever after a while if I could help it. Hope you get it figured/worked out.
