Sending lots of rain energy your way!!!
trf says they are a staging ground for the emergency cres and houses have been evaced
Last week, I saw a trucker flip his cigarette butt out his window. Yeah, we have had a little rain, but smokers need to pay attention to their butts!
The winds are blowing the smoke from this fire toward our house. All I hear are sirens. I am hoping the winds will die down. Just surreal.
Bonny, don't you guys take any chances! You need to be prepared to dash at a moment's notice. Those winds can drive a fire that can run down a car. Your stuff can be replaced. You, MacKee, and Wee MacKee cannot...stay safe, please.
Thank you Merlin! :) We are safe for now. I am keeping my eye on the news.
If yall dont get any rain soon,it looks like there will be no camp fire this year at trf, If we still have a TRF.
You know its bad when one of your fire trucks catches fire O.O
I pulled up a satellite of Texas. I had no idea of the extent of the fires. Keeping Texas in my prayers.
There are many more fires than that map shows. Fires reported by SFFMA are not recorded on that map.

Oh my gosh, Bonny..... :o
Strike the colors and RUN Woman
I heard from somebody (have not verified via the new or govt contact yet, just rumor) that Henry's Hideout burned down.. Renfaire drive got evacuation notice 10 mins ago.
News just said there are more evacuations but didn't expand on that.... What kind of crap is that??! This might be what you are talking about Gwen.
From the Navasota examiner, one hour ago:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The fire has jumped FM 1774 and is spreading south towards Waller County. Firemen are estimating approximately 1,000 to 2,000 acres have been consumed.
Law enforcement is now evacuating neighborhoods west of FM 1774.
Plantersville resident Frank Corolla, whose family is evacuating, reports that traffic is 2 miles long near the intersection of Bowler Road and FM 1488.
The fire is said to have started in Montgomery County, but the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
Fire truck on fire
TriCounty fire truck has caught fire. More details will be posted as they are made available.
Evacuation orders adjusted, road closure
County Judge Betty Shiflett has ordered the mandatory evacuation of residents 1 mile west of FM 1774 and east of FM 1774 to the county line, as homes are being threatened by a large fire in the woods. FM 1774 is closed from County Road 302 (near Dave's Country Store) to the county line.
Residents in and near the Holly Hills subdivision near FM 1774, south of CR 302 and north of Riley Road are also being evacuated.
Local law enforcement began evacuating residents east of the Renaissance Festival and south of Inwood Drive shortly after large plumes of smoke became visible as a large brush fire is developing near FM 1774 and County Road 302 near Todd Mission/Plantersville.
Sheriff Don Sowell, who is at the fire staging area at the Renaissance Festival parking lot in Plantersville, said the fire is on the east side of FM 1774, near Crown Ranch, where another brush fire evolved just last week.
The fire is approximately 1 mile from the Renaissance Festival parking lot where large, black clouds of smoke can be seen.
The Texas Forest Service has been called in for assistance, as well as Plantersville-Stoneham, Anderson, Richards and Shiro Volunteer Fire Departments and Navasota Fire Department. Other responding fire departments include Cy-Fair, TriCounty, Magnolia and Montgomery.
St. Joseph EMS is also on scene.
Plantersville-Stoneham Volunteer Asst. Fire Chief Steve Paiyou initially reported they were unsure of how to reach the fire in certain wooded areas.
Sunday, Texas Forest Service responded to 63 new fires that burned 32,936 acres, including 22 new large fires. Strong winds and low relative humidity from Tropical Storm Lee have caused numerous wildfires across Texas to spread rapidly.
Locally, the winds are blowing 10 to 15 mph from the northeast to the southwest.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This one is in a different location than the last, so plenty of fuel to be burned. 100 miles to the west and that tropical storm would have put an end to this before it started. Anyone with an open flame in the area should be given a ticket for being careless and stupid.
Positive waves no property or lives get destroyed in this.
From the TRF Facebook page:
"Renfaire drive and TRF office have been evacuated at this time. The fires are NOT on the grounds but we have been asked to evacuate as a precaution. 1774 is closed to the public between 1486 and 302 at this time."
It's going to be a close call.
I posted this on FB but just in case-
Due to all the fires happening near our friends near Sherwood and TRF we are offering our home to any who need space. We are pet friendly so bring them as well. Contact me or Reba Trinn Scott on here and I will get our number to you. We are in the San Antonio area.

What is the link to the best information about this fire?
Bonny, you guys still at home, or have you moved to safer quarters?
We are still home and have not been notified to leave. We are southwest of this fire.
Attached is a link that has a map outlining the fire area.

Wow, that's right next to the high school isn't it
Yes, Magnolia West High School is in that area. Just announced on the news that our school district is closed tomorrow.
Same drill as last time, we can house 6 comfortably, up to 10 if they don't mind getting cozy and sleeping on the floor.
Y'all stay safe please! Sending good thoughts, positive energy, rain dance, and some prayers your way.
Prayers for RAIN! This is TERRIBLE!! :(
That's still up in the air last I heard, some folks say they saw flames from its location, others are saying its still there.
From the KHOU web site: The fire has burned about 1,600 acres and destroyed at least 20 homes and a fire truck.
We heard sirens and a bullhorn telling us to evacuate, so I took the kids to a friend's house in cypress, and my husband and oldest daughter took all of our animals to a different friend's.
We were trying to decide what to do, when we looked down to see soot all over my neighbor's driveway.
We are all praying for you DancingDogDairy
A KTRK viewer posted this picture. I thought this was a great point of reference for TRF lover's since we all know where the McDonald's is.

Dancing what area are you in? People are hearing reports that we/our subdivision (Indigo Lake) is being evacuated, which is NOT the case. We are safe and keeping an eye on what is going on. Dancing I pray you and yours are all safe.
Thoughts and Prayers with all of you and everyone affected by this fire.
The winds have calmed this morning which should help the firefighters. Unless there's a big shift and increase in the wind TRF should escape again. As to Henry's the last I heard was that it made it, but a trailer behind it burned. Close call.
We live by Sire. My husband said our neighborhood was not officially under mandatory evacuation. But our Subdivision is only 3 houses. I figured if I can hear the bull horn announcing evacuation, then we had better get out.
Our animals are at a friend's by High Meadow Ranch.
I could have sworn I posted this yesterday but I guess not. My cousin's house in Bastrop has burned down :( They were evacuated just in time too, and the only person home at the time was my 16 year old second cousin who managed to grab some clothes and his mother's jewelry before leaving.
First it was some of Scarborough and now TRF is in danger! I just bought plane tickets home for Thanksgiving break to go to faire two days ago. My family had to be evacuated a few months ago due to a huge field fire but everything turned out ok, but that was a while ago and in a different part of Texas. Everyone stay safe wherever you are!
these are the neighborhoods under evacuation:
Montgomery County Wildfire Info: Ranch Crest, River park ranch, wisteria farms, lake Holley hills, magnolia west, deer haven, woodland lakes, weekend retreats, shady brook acres, Remington forest, oak hollow, fields store
I've had a forest fire behind my house before so I know how scary it is to have to leave your home, or even that waiting period of not knowing if you have to leave your home. My prayers are with all my friends in TX. Stay safe.

Sounded like one of them said it was trying to jump 1774....
Did you hear a cross road for 1774?
Reports that Crown Ranch is lit up and there is a gas pipeline at the back of that subdivision.
Ray's bar on 1774 had 8 structures in danger and being evacuated. This is the bar that is just south of Henry's.
*edit
Turns out there was a voluntary order for our neighborhood, but I believe things are okay here for now. Advent is here with us in case he has to move their travel trailer.*

I just heard them say that they are on the pipeline trying to knock the fire out there... a CyFair booster truck was on site...
Thanks.
Just reported on the news that TRF is now on the firefighters radar. :(
on TRF's facebook page they announced that they are mandatory evacuation and the office is closed. Let us hope for the best that everyone stays safe.
Buildings can be replaced.
From Channel 13
Firefighters have held the fire in the areas of FM 1488 and Joseph Road in Waller County and along the Montgomery / Waller County lines between FM 1774 and FM 1488. At this time the following roads are closed: FM 1488 at FM 1774 west of the Waller County line, FM 1774 west of FM 1486 in to Grimes County

How are things out there, Bonny? One of our guys lives just south of you and helped a bunch of guys get their Harley's out of the area, last night...
*of course the cops stopped him and accused him of looting...*
Just listening/watching updates. The evac area has been expanded but is still north of us.
I have heard rumors about looting in one subdivision that was evacuated but don't have any confirmation on that. It is unfortunate that your friends were viewed that way but people are on high alert and watching for such things.
Another Local News Site (http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/magnolia/news/)
Seems things are getting a bit more contained, but still a lot of work left for the firefighters.

He DID have 6 bikes on his trailer... funny thing is that he knows most of the cops out there but this happened to be a Trooper.
Hope the guys fighting this thing keep up the great work... takes a lot of guts to look into the mouth of a blast furnace and try to put it out.
People are needing help with horses and other livestock. New fire in Waller County now? Can't confirm yet.

Remington Forest Subdivision reports are up to 90% burned
Got this on a FB page:
Everything from 1774 and Reeds Prairie to 362 and south to 2920 through Field Store in Grimes and Waller Counties are now under a mandatory evacuation. Firefighters are working a new Major fire west of 1774 north of Remington Forest, which is the same are that lost houses in another fire last night.
Here's the best map that I've found so far, it even shows the smoke coverage.

Having had lived in southern California for a few years and having to evacuate my horses when brush fires occured my heart goes out to you all . Wished i lived closer and could help out.Prayers for everyone's safety and that they get the fires out soon.
Just stepped out to onto my back porch and stepped into haze and ash. The wind is carrying the smoke and ash this way now. It's not like the pics I posted yesterday. It's like I just walked too close to a firepit at camp and inhaled. :(
Folks on FB are posting that experienced firefighters and EMS are needed. If you can help, call the OEM or local county sheriff office.
If you are getting ash, shouldn't you be bugging out yourself? Sounds pretty close to you. Please be safe, get on out of there.
The Red Cross is coordinating volunteers and donations at Magnolia High School.
The wind is carrying this to us, no threat for now. But believe me if we are told to go we will be on it!
Latest update from TRF's Facebook is that the grounds are still safe, but fires are a few miles North of the parking area.
No chance of rain, which saved them from the last fire, so hope for favorable winds or no wind.
Just confirmed with Grimes County- no additional EMS personnel needed at this time, but check in with them directly periodically as that may change.
I am glad they don't need additional EMS. This means the firefighters and residents are staying out of danger as much as possible.
Just had an update via M-N-L's I phone, that they were calling for more evacs out there... any word?
Montgomery County Emergency Management says new areas of fires have developed in Montgomery County. Residents are now being evacuated in the communities of High Chapperal, Toby's Village and Magnolia East. Fire danger is close and residents should take immediate action.
MCEM also says the area south of FM 1774 and FM 1488 remains closed -- in most cases as a safety precaution while firefighters continue fighting hot spots and pockets of fires that are cropping up.
We've also learned that authorities have shut down northwest bound traffic on FM 1774 toward FM 1486.
In Waller County, authorities say they are still fighting fire between FM 1488 and Riley Road, west of FM 1774. It's a big forested area where they say hundreds of acres have burned. The same evacuations are in place with no one allowed back yet. They are keeping an eye on homes to the north, but are unsure if any structures are damaged.
We are still in the same position. Haven't been told to leave but in the process of packing up our camper, hook it up and be ready in case we get evacuated when it is dark.
I believe the smoke/haze we are seeing is from the fire at Joseph Road & 1488.
Be ready to haul butt at a moment's notice...
I live in Pasadena and I know accommodations can be found closer to evacuation sites, but any flow-over need to find a place to stay if they can't lodging elsewhere, I will gladly offer my house up.
Bonny, once you get ready, you guys need to get on out of there. That's a lot of rig to scramble with. Please be careful and cautious.

I hope it is not true either. But on another note, after firefighters cut fire lanes, they sometimes will start a fire to burn back towards the incoming fire. Which will kill the fire's source of fuel faster.
picture that was just shown on local fox news. this is the lake in our subdivision, looks like this was taken yesterday.

Accurate Data On The Fire: http://inciweb.org/incident/2614/
Statewide: Since January 1, 2011 to 9/4/11 Texas Forest Service responded to 2,723 fire for 2,679,734 acres. Homes saved 18,035, other structures 6,415. Homes lost 873, other structure 944.
In the past 48 hours, more than 700 homes have been destroyed.
They caught a group of teen arsonists on another fire (http://www.kxan.com/dpp/news/local/williamson/leander-fire-continues-to-burn-tuesday), but not this one, so I dunno if that was a separate suspect or someone confusing the two.

Does anyone have any updates on fire locations? Smoke has gotten REALLY thick in our area and there's a lot of fire truck activity at code 3 levels. The Wunderground map is broken, doesn't display the fires anymore for current dates, and I am having a hard time digging up anything other than the Todd Mission and Bastrop fires. Anything east of the Todd Mission one?
I haven't seen anything. I believe the wind shifted which may be the reason you are seeing smoke... ???

I just got this from a friends Facebook Status.
If you know anyone who is in need, please forward to this. I feel very helpless sitting in Mobile and not being about to help.
A Man named Matt Daniel has enough pasture for about sixty horses. So if anyone knows someone with horses displaced by the fires give him a call 832-769-1879.
He can move the horses, ten at a time. Also another man Ron Derrick from Lampassas has 2500 acres, 20 stall barn and several pastures. He said that if anyone needs a place to put animals, call him at 512-734-6080.
UPDATE
September 7, 2011

Effective at 12 noon today FM 1488 in Montgomery County will be opened for normal vehicle traffic.
All subdivisions with the exception of Ranch Crest that have vehicle access from FM 1488 in Montgomery County will be opened.
Residents returning to their home will need to provide identification.
FM 1774 from FM 1486 west to the Waller County Line will remain closed.
Due to the widespread and severe damage and loss of property, Montgomery County Judge, Alan B. Sadler, has signed and submitted to the State a disaster declaration and has requested state assistance. The declaration was effective immediately.

The Grimes Co. Saw a post about a fire at 249/Brown, Spring Creek Park. Can anyone confirm?
We came home, but are leaving again just to be safe. I have heard that the fire has reached the grounds. I don't know if that is true.
This was just posted on the TRF FB page, no mention of the faire itself having a fire on the grounds:
Grimes County Sheriff's Office
090711 5:05pm The flareup south of Riley Road is still ongoing, but remains south of Riley Road. The flareup behind Foxfire has breached the fire lanes. Firefighters are actively working to regain control at this location. The fire is still south of Foxfire and has not reached the subdivision. Will post additional information as it becomes available.
The flareup south of Riley Road has shifted to the south and at this time is not posing an immediatey threat to the northern fire lanes. The flareup to the southeast of the Foxfire Subdivision has been pushed back into the containment area by firefighting personnel. The flareup did briefly breach the firelane earlier this afternoon. Law enforcement individually notified several residences on FM 1774 to evacuate because of this situation.
The Command Post has advised Texas Forest Service (TFS) has named this fire the Riley Road/Crown Ranch Fire. TFS is reporting via Command there is a 60 percent containment.
There are no new evacuation orders. The following is a list of the MANDATORY EVACUATION areas and streets for Grimes County ONLY: Lake Holly Hills/Mill Creek Subdivision, Foxfire Subdivision, area immediately behind the Texas Renn Fest (Renfair Drive, Tammy Circle, Devin Court, CR 303), Plantation Lakes (off Riley Road), Saddlecreek Subdivsion (off Riley Road). Earlier this afternoon, it was posted that the Millcreek Subdivision was open in response to a question on another thread. That post was an error and our apologies for any confusion that caused.
We will post if there is any signficant change in the fire flareups, evacuation order updates or road closure updates.
Grimes County Sheriff Facebook page is posting accurate information. Don't listen to rumors.
I'm thrilled that it is not true!
From the Forestry Service: RILEY ROAD, Grimes/Montgomery/Waller counties. 5,000 acres, 30 percent contained. Seventy-five homes have been destroyed on this fire burning just west of Magnolia.
I keep thinking of all my TRF friends with all the fires in Texas, hope everyone is doing okay down there!

LOL... i was thinking the same thing... "Hmmm almost smells like camp"
You've got to give props to all the emergency personel... they've been fighting this monster tooth & nail.
yep and with the temps being so nice and cool i wish we were posting about camp. :(

TRF FB page post:
Areas and roads around TRF have been evacuated again as a precaution. We are NOT on fire! At this time, the fires are moving west toward Waller County. We will keep you updated as we get new info.
Thanks Bonny.
Listening into the first responders they are really scrambling to keep things under control. It's so dry that even when they think an area is out it flares back up.
I saw that pic of the smoke behind the arena day before yesterday, so it's not from today. Although, it could look like that right now with what all's happening today.
It not possible for me to get to the area with supplies to donate. Have they set up any fund anywhere? I would most gladly contribute.

I would contact the Red Cross.
There are also Facebook pages set up that may be useful. One of them Grimes County Sheriff page and the other is something like Magnolia Fire Information. (Don't have FB at work) So far they've gotten everything and more than they've asked for and very quickly. Great community support.
May not be much help but anyone who may need to relocate 3 to 5 horses please feel free to contact me and we will see what we can get done. My only concern is this area would be transporting them from point A to point B. Do not have stables but have a small barn and pasture area to put them on.
They are saying the Grimes County part of the Tri County fire is at 60% containment... it's the Waller County part that is giving them problems now...

If you have FB then you can search there. If not I'm sure TRF will set something up once things are less chaotic.
As of now they are not short of supplies. Local citizens and businesses have come through big time for our firefighters.
Latest Grimes Co. Sheriff update:
?090811 11:45AM FIRE UPDATE. There has been a new flare-up to the southeast of the Foxfire Subdivision. At this time, firefighters are making a stand at the fire lane to keep the flare-up contained. If the fire breaches the fire lane, we will post an update. The fire in the Riley Road area is still being managed south of Walnut Ridge Road in Waller County. There is no change in evacuation orders at this time.
Merlin, there are two Texas grocery chains that are accepting monetary donations. HEB grocery and Randall's. You might try contacting them to see about a donation. I believe Randall's was bought out by Safeway, but you would probably have better luck contacting a Randall's in the Houston area directly. YOU are much appreciated for this gesture and Thank You!
Also try the Salvation Army. They usually show up in times of need like this. They are a church, but they don't care. They are there when the need arises.
just a thought.
This just got to me. I am thinking of Bastrop as well when I view this. :'(

Bonny, that sounds pretty cool.
Might be worth the drive down from DFW as a nice diversion before faire.

FYI-- The Honey Tree Daycare/Preschool center is collecting BABY & TODDLER ITEMS which will be dispersed to families who have lost their homes in the Grimes County fires. If anyone in the Willowbrook area wants to contribute their hand-me-downs or pack of diapers or ANYTHING, the center is on the 249 feeder just north of Perry, southbound side. They are open 6am to 6:45pm, and there is a buzzer to get someone to open the door. They have a crib right inside the door that we're putting items in, but there isn't very much so far.
School closed again tomorrow. Since I am taking the day off as well I believe I will show our son first hand what community and volunteering are all about. I'm sure there is something a 9yo can do to help.
Just letting everyone know, HEB donations are for "Wildfire relief" this is through The "RED CROSS" and is for disaster relief through out Texas.
Many people are donating. Others see RED CROSS and ask for another option.
Find your local and ask what they are in need of.
Some need clean towels, water, eye drops, cough drops, sports drinks, clean socks, baby powder, men's and women's underwear

When my son was a Boy Scout we used to go out there once or twice a year. The woman that runs it is amazing! The animals are really cool. They used to occasionally do campouts out there where you could camp in the field next to the wolf habitats and listen to them howl at the moon during the night.

Read that containment dropped from 85% to 50% overnight. Winds were blowing to the North and for the first time I could smell the smoke at my house north of 105.

Goodness gracious I HOPE we really don't have complete morons out there doing something like this! ::)
Wish the containment % would go up and stay up instead of waffling like it has. I know the fire crews have seen one challenge after another and I feel for them and the people who live here. Last night the evacuation zone inched closer to where we live but we are okay so far. With no haze or ash blowing this direction today you wouldn't know there is a fire down the road.
We are on stand-by to help evacuate some horses near Kickapoo Road if needed. The man has plenty of trailers just not enough vehicles to tow them. I saw on the news this morning footage of rescued house pets with bandages on their paws and wiskers singed from the heat/fires, poor little guys. :(
Latest post from Grimes County Sheriff FB page
090911 10:30AM FIRE UPDATE
Firefighters are closely monitoring a hot spot in the Riley/Wade/Plantation Lake area. The concern is that a wind will cause a large flare-up in the area, which is about a 1/4 mile from Renfaire. There have been no significant flare-ups on the east side of FM 1774 in Grimes County this morning...
Perhaps, Doña, but this much smoke? I dunno...It was instantly noticeable when I awoke this morning, and clearly visible now.
We got a lot of soot from the first Possum Lake fire a few weeks back. It's not unusual to get the effects of fires to the west here. There was a huge fire in Arizona and New Mexico some years back, and we didn't see really clear skies for quite some time.
fingers crossed and hoping for no wind...

Hi All-Thanks for keeping us up on what's happening. TRF means more to me than I can put in words
For Merlin-I am also central Arkansas and just heard on the news there are wildfires and controlled burns around the state causing smoke to drift over across the state and reducing visibility. Nothing like Texas - but that is where your smoke is coming from.
My prayers for everyone there. I have relatives there and family has relatives in Bastrop very close to the fires.
Plus I'm 5th generation Texan. Texas will always be home. It hurts to see her suffer.
You're the first local that's shown up around here... Welcome! Be sure to introduce yourself in the "Greetings, Friend" board so we can all get to know you.
Update (http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=8342579)
"A converted DC-10 jetliner flew into the area to drop fire retardant about 11am Friday. According to Texas Forest Service, the plane dropped 11,000 gallons of dye ammonia phosphate fertilizer in the area along FM 1488 near the Texas Renaissance Festival. That area, along with several other areas, have been plagued with flare-ups.
The plane had been scheduled to make a drop on the Bastrop County fire, but authorities said it wasn't needed due to the progress being made there.
We also learned that four Blackhawk helicopters will drop water in the area as well.
All three counties called for state assistance and the state has called for federal assistance, so the three counties are now working with a national management team, trying to get the fire extinguished.
Another DC-10 drop is expected on Friday afternoon."
"The Texas Renaissance Festival has canceled all weekend events including wedding tour, cast rehearsal, new staff orientation and work weekend activities. All will be rescheduled for a later date. The festival office and grounds continue to serve as a mobilization station for the emergency crews working across multiple counties to contain the wildfires "

With all of the flooding, earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamis, and fires we've had this year, I'm getting the impression that Gaia is finally really pissed off, and is trying to do something about the way She's been treated.

TRF has canceled all weekend activities scheduled for Friday, September 9 thru Sunday, September 11, due to wild fire evacuation orders currently in place and issued by Grimes County Emergency officials. This includes the final wedding tour of the season, cast rehearsals, new staff orientation and the work weekend. All activities will be rescheduled for a later date. The grounds remain closed to the public until evacuation orders for the area are removed by county officials.

Getting unconfirmed reports from two neighbors that were up at the Kroger on Woodlands Pkwy and Kuykendahl, and my mother-in-law who was at Rayford and I-45, that there is smoke coming from somewhere in the Woodlands, possibly around Grogan's Mill. Any info on that?
Breandan I just looked and don't see anything. Just heard on the scanner about a possible fire at 1488/Honea Egypt. This may just be someone calling about the smoke though.
Received confirmation that evacs are getting closer to where we live. We have just finished loading the camper and are now in a wait and see position. I truly love our friends Cat, Katy(Rapier's daughter), Richard and Tom that came and helped us. Now I'm just trying to keep myself together. :(
How is Cat and Richards place? I know Ashleigh is worried. Go ahead and get out of there Bonny! I'm so sending good vibes out that way.... the last thing we need is even more destruction!
One of the evacs ends right in front of where their subdivision starts. I chatted with Ash on FB. Cat is heading to Kris's house and Richard is here hooking up their trailer, he will go to his parents house if need be.
It looks like the fire is moving farther from us. We live next to sire by Mikes country store on Nichols Sawmill.
But we had evacuated our animals to a friend's house by high meadow ranch. Now that area is in more danger than we are.
My husband and daughter are retrieving our goats. Another friend who lives closer to Tomball college is taking our horses and cows.
I have the truck packed with our suitcases if I need to get the children out in a hurry.
I'm with Fae, Bonny. Go ahead and leave.
Scanner is reporting another column of smoke coming from the north side of 1488 just west of 242. That's about six miles due north of us, so I am keeping an eye out for the smoke plume.
Dancing I hope y'all are able to get your family and animals to a safe place. Be safe!
Merlin, we are ready to go. Just keeping an eye on things right now and doing our 3rd or 4th check and re-check of what we have and need. I am thankful we get this much time to prepare unlike others.

as long as you 3 are included then you sound good. Do you have any ammunition in your house?
no but i will verify with hubby. i know he got the left over fireworks out from the feast we had in Feb.
yeah, we're prepping just in case the fire north of us goes feral... and, well, we own WAY too damned much ammo >.<
Winds were blowing to the SE on my way home. They are supposed to almost completely reverse direction tonight. That could be good as there won't be much fuel left to burn.

FIRE STATUS UPDATE ... from Magnolia West Command Post ... Firefighters expect to ACTIVELY fight the Riley Road/Tri-County fire for the next 2 weeks. After that, they will have to maintain the area until rain comes. Winds are causing concern: the fires keeps spreading because of wind changes.

Thanks y'all! I guess I was hoping it wasn't so.
I hope that you, your ol' man and wee one are rolling... Richard told me an hour ago that you were ready to go. I've had "reports" that it's to the library and moving fast...
Thank you. I am looking for confirmation. Can you give the source?

A friend of ours that lives out there, off of 1488... she saw a column of smoke coming from by the library as she was pulling out.
Don't take any chances...
Since you're offline now, I'm guessing you are on the move... Good, get out of there.
Godspeed Bonny... be safe.
Please, PLEASE take no chances!!! If you need to go, then GO!!! We can't replace any of you...
Thank you but I logged off by accident. I am listening to the scanner and they aren't saying anything about a fire near there and they haven't expanded the evac zones. Do you think your friend could have been seeing smoke from 1486?

Anyone listening to the scanner? I have heard calls to Homeland Security for location confirmation.... What are they doing? Honest question, not sure what their role would be...
They never did have a role... dead wood.

Not sure... she got the evac order and rolled. I'll see if i can get ahold of her.
The wind has turned north... as long as nothing is south of you, you may be good.
I may sound like a broken record, but don't take any chances.
My dad has some connections.... long story. He was at the command center today. They are hoping they can get the fire out within the next 2 weeks but could be a month or more. Apparatus have arrived from as far away as the Galveston Fire Department. Crews flew in today from California and New York. The Texas Forestry Service is working with all the chiefs to formulate plans at this time. Reports are that TRF is the main staging area for law enforcement. This includes the Texas Rangers who are on site
They are deparately in need of all sizes of men and women's underwear. Drop them at the fire stations you can get to safely. When their underwear gets wet they chaff and so keeping dry underwear on is very important. They have nurses and doctors at the command center. They need cough drops, lip balm, nose spray and as much Neosporin as they can get. Firemen are getting cut up by debris and woods.
My co-worker was working in Walmart during the fire in Conroe. People started 5 separate fires in 5 departments in the store. This was followed by makeshift Molotav cocktails on Loop 336 and Highway 105. No word on if they were caught but the store was evacuated for ventilation purposes at least.

Current report from the Texas Forestry Service: RILEY ROAD, Grimes/Montgomery/Waller counties. 15,000-plus acres, 60 percent contained. Active fire behavior was observed yesterday as the fire moved to the southwest in Waller County. Approximately seventy-five homes have been destroyed on this fire burning just west of Magnolia.
Notice that this fire has now consumed 15,000-plus acres.
http://www.inciweb.org/incident/2614 (Good Information Here)
Weather Outlook For The State: A surface ridge of dry high pressure will maintain a dry air mass and northerly component to the flow to much of the Lone Star state into early next week. A weak surface trough of low pressure in place over the panhandle during may lead to some localized gusty winds at times over the far northern portions of the panhandle where an isolated shower or thunderstorm could occur. The pressure gradient will be strongest near the Interstate 35 corridor today, where winds should again be around 10 mph sustained for a few hours in the late afternoon to early evening hours. Relative humidity this afternoon will be similar to yesterday afternoon, with minimum relative humidity below 20 percent across most of the state. High temperatures will range in the 80s and 90s in general, but will approach 100 over Deep South Texas. Poor overnight recoveries will continue for areas away from the coast, especially locations west of Interstate 35. Dry conditions will continue as high pressure over the Southern Plains continues to push dry air over the East Branch. Winds will be lighter with more variable through the morning hours becoming north and northeast during the afternoon 5 to 8 mph with gusts up to 15 mph. Mostly sunny skies with afternoon highs in the upper 80s to mid-90s. The relative humidity will fall back into the 12-20 percent range and 25-35 percent south where a late afternoon sea breeze will creep inland. Poor to moderate overnight recoveries 50-60 percent in the northwest to 65-85 percent in the east and south.

Fortunately, you cat get pretty much anything at walmart, so you have lots of "Options for Justice" should you happen to catch one of these people.

Good morning
We are still at the house. It was a quiet night for us, thank goodness.
From the Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce FB page about 8 minutes ago:
Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce
Montgomery County Fire Marshal's Office Indigo Lake Estates has not been evacuated at this time....to make sure you are notified if you are being evacuated...please go to www.mc911.org and register yourself with your address and all phone numbers linked to your address (home and cell phones). Once this is done, you will receive a phone call if your area is being evacuated.
This is our neighborhood. I am researching now as to why our area is even being mentioned. Not sure if there were new issues close by during the night. We are registered for the 911 evac calls.
Nim and I are both relieved that you checked in this morning...been worried.
So it looks like federal disaster funding has been approved for Texas. Fire crews are here from California and New York now! I Love our country! We come together when needed.
This is still a pending question even though I did appreciate your answer Merlin and the banter that went with it lol:
Yesterday while listening to the scanner I heard 2 calls for location confirmation of Homeland Security. Trying to figure out what their involvement would be in a wildfire. If anyone has insight on this I would much appreciate an explanation.
Channel 13 said there will be a press conference in a few minutes.
Estimated 21k acres burned. Waiting for update on that estimate.
'Saw this post so if you are local and have the time:
Firemen need beef jerky, Vienna sausage, indiv pkg peanuts and trail mix. Take to Buddy Riley fire station or little league football fields.'
I am thinking they will probably need constant replenishing of items such as aloe, lip balm, gloves, eye drops, non-drowsy allergy meds, aspirin, etc. It's going to be a long weekend.
Glad you're ok, Bon...
Thanks Fraser. We are hoping to see some improvement soon, but are keeping an eye on things considering the estimate is 2 weeks or longer to beat the monster it has become.
Bonny, FEMA is under Homeland Security. More than likely that's what the call was about.

Okay that makes sense thanks. I didn't know any federal response (beside the air crews) was active yet considering Texas didn't get Federal emergency funding approval until late last night.
Report from Grimes county this morning that no structures damaged overnight. Grimes seems to be under control.
So far only 2 houses have been damaged and no structures lost. Fire has not breached any of the fire lanes.
No rain in the forecast at all until next Friday.
DONATION UPDATE - Waller County officials are extremely grateful for all of the donations. At this time, they have everything they need at the command centers and storage is becoming an issue. FIRE UPDATE!!!! PLEASE READ!!! WALLER COUNTY JUDGE GLENN BECKENDORFF September 10, 2011 10:00am Yesterday we had one minor injury to a firefighter, due to smoke inhalation. We believe we have lost 8500-9000 acres in Waller County. We don't believe we lost any structures over night, so our count is still at 73+ We have new equipment that has arrived today including dozers and loaders. They are currently cutting new roads through the heavily forested areas to allow firefighters to get back to...
Firefighters from Grimes County are currently providing mutual aide in Waller County expanding/reinforcing fire lines that will better protect our county from a fire breach in the event of another large flareup. As of this time, Grimes County has no active flare-up and there are no fire lane breaches. We held off updating sooner waiting for an evacuation update, but have chosen to go ahead with this post. We are expecting the evacuation update any time and will post it immediately.

(Waller) We are pleased to report continued progress on the fires here in Waller County overnight. We believe we are still at 75% containment in our county. We have suffered no more increase in lost acreage, we are still reporting 8500 acres burned. We have lost no more structures, we are still counting approximately 73 structures.
(Montgomery) Morning briefings and planning operations are underway and crews continue to work 24 hours a day to make the area safe. Please remain off the roads near the fire. We are bringing in equipment and crews from all over. Many service providers such as electric and telephone crews will be working to restore infrastructure as well.
They are making progress. Amazing how well they've done.

Word from Channel 13 is that they have it at 75% contained. ;D
Texas Forestry Service Report: RILEY ROAD, Grimes/Montgomery/Waller counties. 18,946 acres, 75 percent contained. Active fire behavior was observed yesterday as the fire continued to move south. Approximately 59 homes have been destroyed on this fire burning just west of Magnolia. (The IMT is cross checking an assessment that shows 73 homes destroyed, so updated numbers will be available later today).
The latest drought monitor shows 95 percent of the state in extreme drought, with 81 percent in exceptional drought (the highest category). Seasonal outlooks continue to indicate drying throughout the fall, so the drought is expected to worsen.
Weather Outlook: A south component to the winds will become more widespread across the state today. Even as dew points begin to increase, warmer temperatures will lead to continued low relative humidity. Among the driest locations in the state today will be those near the Interstate 35 corridor and east, and also in central parts of the state. Winds will be lightest and somewhat variable east of the Interstate 35 corridor on average and strongest and gustier to the west, especially across the panhandle. Winds should gust between 20 and 30 mph in the panhandle (Northwest Branch). High temperatures will continue on a warming trend today, ranging from the upper 80s to around 100 in most places. Overnight recoveries will begin to improve along and to the east of the Interstate 35 corridor, but will remain poor in areas to the west. Dry conditions today with near record high temperatures for parts of the region. High pressure will be moving east out of Arkansas bringing southerly flow to the southern areas and lighter more variable winds for the north. Highs will soar into near record territory with highs 99-103 north of the Huntsville and Lufkin areas while southward the highs will be more variable in the 93 to 101 degree range. Light and variable or south winds early in the morning will become southwest 3-5 mph then during the late morning and afternoon hours becoming gusty. A few hours of gusty northwest winds near 15 mph will be possible for the areas north and northwest of Nacogdoches. The sea breeze should move into the areas south of a Woodville to Conroe line late in the afternoon and early evening bringing south winds 5-10 mph and raise the relative humidity but before it passes the relative humidity will likely fall to around 20 percent. Mostly sunny skies will prevail over most of the region but the south where partly cloudy skies will develop late in the morning. Good overnight recoveries of 65-75 percent across the north and 85-95 percent in the south will be the rule.
I am so happy they have been able to get a handle on this. Now if we can up the % of rain we are supposed to see at the end of the week that would be fantastic! Rain Dances from everyone please! ;D
I was out there at 1488 and 1774 this evening and there was no smoke to be seen. No smell either.

Hate to say it but we got a fairly decent rain out here in El Paso this morning and it came out of the east. I guess it was needed out here but there is nowhere the amount of tinder for wild fires out here like y'all got back east and I'm thinking you could put it to better use. I did give the clouds a dirty look and said you're about 500 miles west of where you should be.
Inciweb is reporting 100% containment!!

That's certainly a relief. Bastrop County Complex is still only 75% contained, but even so, that's better than it was.
I'm trying to drum up some rain, but one of the gods got disgusted when I took off my clothes for a rain dance. I appeased her with a couple of shots of Jack Daniel's.

Got a nice 3-4 hour soak here in Dallas tonight. More on the forecast. Hope if moves south and east for you guys.
The gentle rain is what you need! Glad to hear DFW area got some. As dry as the ground is, a heavy rain is likely to cause major problems. Weather Channel is showing possibility of rain for most of Texas Saturday thru Monday. I'm dancing as fast as I can.

The temperature has dropped dramatically as well. This is so nice. :)
I know it's not Houston, but another storm is ripping thru Denton right now. Plenty of rain I can hear.
Unfortunately, it's also effing angry, and while I was outside a lightning strike was close enough my ears popped.
Radar makes it look like a small storm on the lead edge of a front heading south.
Here's Hopin'!
I think any rain anywhere in Texas is a good thing... It looks like Houston is getting a decent rain, according to radar. :)
A real long rain/thunderstorm moved through the area yesterday evening. A much needed soaking. Just need about 20 more of them.
I updated the name of this thread b/c everytime I see there is a new post it kinda makes me jittery. :o :)
Ok... we deal with fires, drought, heat, and now here comes faire. Don't know whether to be happy about this forecast for opening weekend or just peeved off:
