Title: Other interests
Post by: SethB on September 21, 2011, 03:56:04 PM
Hullo all! Just a question to get some convo flowing: Aside from Faires and the like, what other hobbies do have to have and are passionate about?

For me, it is gaming and Washington Capitals hockey! Fall is the absolute best time of year in DC. Faire and Caps games.

Dang! That sure is purty, Archer! My current passion is going shooting with my son when he's in town. It's something I used to do with my late dad, and now my son has suddenly gotten an interest. We're both into old military weapons. Damn sure gets expensive quick!

Cool pic Archer! :)
Let's see. I am an avid reader of science fiction/fantasy. I collect antique wind up clocks (as an aside, I love to go to flea markets and auctions.) Building a koi pond (its become a lot more complicated project than I anticipated!)  Dog tracking (my dogs are trained for this, some better than others! :D ). Writing. (have two children's books done) Hiking.Camping.Gardening. Paranormal research. And lastly, maybe an odd one, but traveling to see old battlegrounds. ;D
Forgot! Herbal medicine. I have been fascinated in learning about that since I was very young.

I ski.

East, West, Canada and Europe.
Once in Italy we snowmobiled to the top of the mountain for dinner and tobogganed down in the dark.

Have snow, will go.

Acting in theatre (mostly musicals), and historical costuming are my main interests - both on a more professional level than just hobbies. And between the two of them, they don't leave too much time for much else. Except of course a complete obsession with Harry Potter. :)

Rogue, I have had a number of delicious pumpkin porters and stouts this year that I have not tried before. Autumn is an excellent time for good brews.

I know a lot of people will probably be surprised that I have a hobby besides oenaphilia,
but I love pre 1950 railroad structures and steam trains.
My husband and I have covered nearly every square inch of rail in Texas visiting and photographing. (quite a bit in Oklahoma and Arkansas also) I once ran into a UP section supervisor out in the middle of nowhere who carried Katy rail maps in his truck dated from 1920-1939. He let me photograph some of those also.

I like to do things with my daughter we swim, we go to the park, we go minature golf and of course ren faires. I will be taking her camping for the first time at TRF this season. She is my little pirate... ARGH!!! she loves ren faires more than she likes chuck e cheese. Though we do go to Chuck e cheese quite often and win lots of tickets. I also like to cook, play guitar and party with my friends...

Chuck E Cheese is hell on earth.

The bike riding portion of the post remains valid.

Unfortunately, the entire educational, entertainment and informational thread link referenced has for reasons unknown to this member,  recently been either hidden, censored, deleted or abducted,  by persons or entities unknown.   ::)

We'll just have to do more bike riding than usual, to compensate.   ;D

Hey, it IS gone!  Did that thread even exist?  Maybe we mistook that thread for a rope dangling from a weather balloon; or a tendril of swamp gas perhaps.

I'm informed it was abducted but, still existing in a hidden area.   :P

Who knows, it may return one day by popular demand ?    ;D

I'm a homebrewer so brew ales, porters, and stouts every few weekends, and enjoy visiting (and touring) craft breweries. I also love early music so attend concerts by early music performers such as Paul O'Dell or Piffaro.

Ah, I would truly love to visit Texas (with my stout, of course) but I live on the East Coast so it's a bit of a trip. I certainly hope to some day, though!  :)

I guess there wasn't enough beer in it.

Mostly, unknown would be the answer.  Perhaps the subject matter was an unpublished taboo but no religion or politics agenda; mostly science and global news.

There was some indication that there was not adequate discussion on the topic.  View hit numbers (over 1200) didn't seem to help save it.

Could be that some would attempt to enforce their own belief systems by complaint.  The Gods forbid that we may learn something new.

It is my sincere hope that lack of discussion on the Castle of the Day thread does not cause a similar result.  I enjoy and view it often, if not daily.

If there isn't adequate discussion in a thread, its apparently equated to a private blog ..... or something to that effect as I understood the message.   :P

An appeal of the decision has not been answered . . .  yet.   (http://whokilledjonniesturtle.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/gauntlet.jpg)  ;D

You know, I have tried to discourage discussion on the actual castle thread to keep it from becoming too unwieldy. That is why there is a separate thread for feedback.
I didn't realize that there were so many unwritten rules.

But back on topic;
My interests outside of fair are historical research on ancient cultures like the Halstatt, La Tene, Golasecca and others.
I also enjoy gourmet cooking even on my charcoal grill.
And of course TRAINS.

Outside of faire I enjoy taking photos. I don't do it as often as I'd like though. I also enjoy helping my husband while he is making candles. Horses particularly Arabians have been my passion since I was three. Trail riding, taking lessons, and showing were a big part of my life... hopefully soon they will be again. One important interest I have living with Multiple Sclerosis. It's a challenge some days and finding ways to cope/make things easier to do is always a learning experience.

I am a huge Formula One fan.  Ferrari is my team!  I've got my seat, tickets and accomodations lined up for the first race in Austin and I've been to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix in 06 and 07.
FORZA FERRARI!
