I'm new to these forums and stumbled upon them in search for a nice well made Cavalier hat that will last me for years if possible. I am in Connecticut, and have gone to CTRF (Spring and Fall faires), Silverleaf, and one other I cannot think of... I am almost complete in my first full garb outfit, lacking the need of a good quality hat that wont break the bank too much.
Can anyone offer any advice where i should look or even what faire in CT,NYC,Mass area that may have what I'm looking for?
Material pref: leather, or something along the lines of rough. I dont want shiny material.

I got mine three years ago (I think) and love it. It fits well and is well worth the money.
I've crossed that site on my search, but velvet material is too flashy for an archer. I suppose i'm looking more for leather, or something similar for that rough edge look =)
Pendragon Leather makes Cavalier hats in leather or suede. My husband bought his in 2003, and it still looks as good as ever.
He wears it with his kilt and also with his pirate garb (though he also has a pirate hat).

Do you happen to know where pendragon leather appears for faires?
I found their site from the vendor list above, but they don't seem to do hats according to their website. I'm going to email them and find out more to see if they still make hats =)
Anyone else know of any possibilities? I'm like jack sparrow when it comes to a hat, I want just one and will keep it around forever if i can, lol
Excalibur Leather. Not sure if they do any northern faires but they are at Texas Renaissance Festival (Houston-ish area) which is about to start up. Hubby has the black leather with silver trim Musketeer hat. It's a bit more suede-ish than the Cavalier hat.

Good luck!
I don't know if they still stock it but o got my wide brimmed "fold up"leather hat from renstore.com cheap about four years ago
It's so hard to find a nice rough looking hat... so many hats out there and most shiny and non realistic looking =(
I second Lady Kett's recommendation of Excalibur Leather. They have sch a wonderful selection of Cavalier Hats, Baldrics, Gloves, Pouches, etc.
For hats, I always recommend The Hat People. They have a booth at a couple of faires.

Sorry, I gave the wrong place. Lady Kett is correct. Steve got his hat from Excalibur Leather, not Pendragon. Actually Pendragon is next door to Excalibur at Bristol. For about 6 years, we carried the Excalibur Leather banner in the parade, so I should know better. Thanks, Lady Kett.

Not exactly what you are asking for but I'd contact the Blonde Swan. They do a lot of custom hats and they have a lovely selection of leather to choose from.

They look very promising, thank you very much =)
Excalibur leather looks promising as well but their website does not show what i'm looking for, I would have to catch them at a faire one of these days to see what they have =) Thanks for the suggestion
Thanks for all who've replied, I now have some good leads and can move on to finding the right hat between them =) Almost thought the search would never end, lol

They have been at KCRF in the past. The hat making genius is usually present and has the tools and equipment to customize and/or re size your new hat on the spot. excellent work, authentic looking and as fancy froufrou or scuffed up plain as you want.
Edit: Just checked KCRF vendor list-they will indeed be at KCRF this year. Artisan Directory # 382. In the past they have only been there for the Pirate Weekend, Oct 1-2nd this year.
Their Capitano hat is Delicious.....
Ptaradactyl Leather has some very nice hats. I dont know all the fairs that they are at but I love my cav' hat. I also have a tall hat from them too.
renboots sells a very nice "Musketeer" hat, it's leather, and quite durable.
I contacted them via phone and had them leave the decorative banding off
