Martin........Ally and I camp from a Nissan Altima so I'm sure a Buick is at least a step up on space. Just remember to pack light cause you'll use about half of what you bring, if that, haha.

Martin... we packed enough gear/garb/food for three to go three days in a Toyota echo. And one of the three is a 6'3" 18 y/o eating machine. Packing a buick? really... it can be done dude

Opening weekend, we packed enough stuff for 7 people in my Love's new Scion. That's enough for 7... on a weekend that incuded a wedding. 2 rubbermaid tubs of loki, enough rum for me to seriously celebrate and had room for that same 18 y/o to ride.

*I'd even have room for extra rum in a buick...*

Psssst, if I can pack up all my crap in a VW Bug, trust me, you'll have TWICE the room in yours.

Can it be October now, please?!

Well ... looks like I've got a lot to learn about camping.   :)  I thought most of the people out there had trucks or vans.  OK, so maybe I'll look into getting a small tent and giving it a go.  I'd be by myself, so if anyone has suggestions on tent manufacturers or models, let me know.  Guess I'd just need something big enough to sleep and change clothes in.

Also ... I think someoneone had posted a "camping guide" on the old forum.  How about some of you camping veterans starting a post and listing what you consider necessities to take for a weekend at TRF?   8)

mpullen? I believe your camping thread has been requested.
Tent choices are enormous Martin. If it's just going to be you then I would suggest a medum sized dome tent. One that sleeps 6 is usually plenty for one person and gear (or at least that works for me). If you think you're going to want an air mattress then I would go a little larger because they take up your floor space quick. I would get one that sleeps 8 in that case.
Outside of that, the thing to remember is don't over-pack. As the years have gone by the amount of gear I bring has dwindled considerably as I have seen what I do and don't need to bring.

*pack extra rum though, that always comes in handy*

Yes I have a van, but I am the camp cook. Let's see if I can run an inventory of the big stuff just from memory.

Four burner patio stove
Two burner patio stove
Two 12'X12' EZ-Ups
9 person 18'X13' tent
Three tables 4'-6' in length
Two 30lb propane cylinders.
Five ice chests 48-100 qt sizes
Six camp chairs.
One fire bowl

Now throw in personal garb, sleeping gear, and food & booze for up to 30 people, it starts to fill up even a van. If I wasn't feeding th entire camp I'd ride my bike.

I'm so ready for TRF!  I got seriously depressed when Scarby ended thinking how far away TRF would be.  But I will get a faire-fix right before TRF, YAY!  I get to go to KCRF in September and hang out with some of my Hatchet Sisters so that will be nice  :)  It's been a pretty terrific faire year for me.  I have been able to visit Muskogee and Scarby for the first time and this will be my first visit to KCRF.  TRF is still my fav though and probably always will be :)

We are definately excited.  I have one question for you veterans though.  My wife and I are going as Greeks for Halloween.  I figure Renaissance women could have easily dressed as their ancestors for costume since they were aware of the look.  Either way, its Halloween.  So....My wife is going as a Greek Godess and I wanted to know if it is acceptable for her to carry an extremely blunted bronze javelin into fair.  It is really blunt!

they may still ask for covering of some time that can't be easily removed.  blunt or not, it's metal and can still do some damage.

Thanks Bonnie.  Definately stop us,and say hi if any of you see us.  I am told that I come off as very intimidating by everyone who knows me, but I do like getting to know people so don't be afraid to stop us!  That look of I am ready for the cage door to close and throw down is my base line look I guess, but I am one of those people that is happy even though I do not smile from ear to ear.  I am a warrior soul, what can I say.  Doesn't mean I am not nice.  Look forward to meeting some of you finally this season.  I will look like one of the two following pics for Halloween so I should easily stand out from the crowd.....

Chris B - you really need to be wearing those for The Roman Bacchanal (Italian) weekend and enter our costume contest.  Both of you.  Even though it is touted as Roman, the Romans got all thier fashion tips from the Greeks.

Chris - I believe Macintyre is correct ... if you have a metal weapon, they will probably require a leather covering over the edges.  It is a most impressive javelin, though, so you might want to make an accurate outline of it and take that to one of the leathersmith's inside TRF (Rev's Armour Werx comes to mind).  It might be possible to make a cover for it within short order.  Here is a link to his web site (his contact info is at the bottom).  You might be able to fax a drawing to him so he can have it ready before you get there.

Sir Martin, Thanks.  I will probably just leave it at home.  The thing that makes it impressive to me is that it is bronze and any sort of covering kills it.  I could make a tight form fitted leather cover myself, but it wouldn't be the same.  She'll be happy that it is one less thing to carry.  ;)

Tudor Diva.......Thanks.  We will be there Roman Bachannal weekend, but like this......  My ancestors were Roman so it feels "right" to wear the true Roman persona.

Ugh, August is too long.
Will this summer heat ever end?
I can almost hear gypsy ankle bells ringing...
wow, some kind of twisted Christmas song.

"The weeks before faire...
and all through the land
All the Rennies were packing
Loki, rum, and mead in high demand."

This time last year, my employer "right-shored" my job to another country where they could pay someone 10 cents an hour for every dollar they paid me. Since I had to survive on unemployment for the next few months, there was no money for faire and I missed all of TRF 2007. Once opening cannon sounds this year, you better clear a path to the gate or someone may get hurt!  ;D

Ahh, Baldr and Freyja have completed their watery travels from the Norse lands and have escaped with only minor damage to our ship and wears. We have landed some far distance from that Great Texas Shire, but will arrive by opening cannons.

This year brings great excitement, as Lord Kilber of Castle K'Zar has agreed Baldr new battle gear, fitting of a Besrkr Warrior. We shall see thee in the morrow.

I was fortunate to accompany some family members on cast this past weekend for a short period of rehearsals of the performance cast! I am VERY impressed by the talent, creativity, joy, and downright hard work put in by these lords, ladies, barbarians fairies, and elves! The evolution and theatrical process involved proves them all fine professionals!  It will be a most entertaining year!

Don't miss the openings, the dances, the noon proclamations, the themed weekend competitions..... sooooo much fun. Drop into the academy of defense for some fine entertainment too!

I do so look forward to the show complete with costumes, music, and all the fun the festival atmosphere adds! Take advantage of opportunities to interact with the courts and other characters..... they will be ready for you and delight you!

see you all opening weekend! I can hardly wait now that my appetite has been teased!!
