I just saw this on the Nat.Geo channel that, if anyone that remembers all the videotographers
taking footage of the "Knights of Mayhem" during the run of the faire; it's going to be a series
and not a 1 shot special. Should be plenty of footage from Sherwood and anyone caught in
the spotlight. I didn't get dates and times so please post if you know when.

National Geo. website has some info - starts Nov 15. Looks like there are 4 episodes. Unfortunately, I'm using dial-up and cannot load a lot of stuff from the website, including pictures and video (just too slow equipment on my end).
Just Google for National Geographic Channel to get to their main website, search for "Knights of Mayhem" (use the quotes) to get to the info pages.
CBS just had a segment on jousting and mentioned the KoM. If you have the NatGeo channel, you might be interested. I couldn't get a decent connection to link to it, either.
Will they be at Sherwood? Never seen full contact jousting before.

They filmed @ sherwood in April. I believe episode 3 has that footage

I see that Charlie Andrews will be a key feature in it. I wonder if they've cleared up his military record for this show. ???
Knights of Mayhem will be at Sherwood Forest Faire this year. Each weekend, the patrons will be able to view full contact joust. The last weekend (8th) of faire will host the Second Annual Full Contact Joust Tournament.
Plan on being at Sherwood this year!!!

I'm torn. While on the one hand I am loving the exposure Sherwood is getting, and am all for any mainstream press or media exposure, on the other hand I am not sure how it will affect Sherwood's reputation that Charlie is the main focus of the show. The man exposes his complete contempt for the renaissance festival community- without which he would have nothing at all, much less a jousting career- and his complete asshattery attitude in the first few minutes of the program, and it just goes downhill from there. He may be a talented technical jouster, but he is the antithesis of what chivalric knighthood is about. I, for one, won't be watching any more of the program if he remains the primary focus. I refuse to contribute ratings that could translate into dollars in the pocket of an egotistical blowhard who denigrates the very community from which he got his start, and has been thoroughly busted for falsely claiming to be a Navy SEAL (http://www.pownetwork.org/phonies/phonies1142.htm) (scroll down about halfway).
My Knights (you know...the REAL Knights) and I watched it....and yes...well.....needless to say....facebook was entertaining tonight.
So far i have seen Queen Bonnie! On knights of mayhem.

After watching the first two episodes, the only reason I would really be interested in continuing to watch the show would be if I knew that it ended with Charlie alone with no one to talk big to and no one caring what he does. That guy is an weed puller...

That's pretty damn low! And he doesn't like Ren fests?? The guy sounds like a real road apple...

Yeah I thought more than the one Knight in the troop had a piss poor attitude in general. It's like he's using Ren Faires cause that his only option? Well you are looking at your launch audience at Ren Faires. We are the ones that are going to get excited about real full contact jousting and you have the nerve to be jerk about it? Ren Faires are your breed & butter dude. Better learn that real quick...
I can kinda understand them wanting to be much more than the Medieval Times type shows that are watered down or choregraphed for safety reasons.
And if he did really falsely claim to be a SEAL? Daaamn, things like that can be fairly easy to verify.
*FAIL*
I also noticed the state of the mounts tack, saddles not polished, reins that look they are made out of hemp rope, could use nicer saddle rugs...
I'm taking a poll here! --> http://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php?topic=16652.0;topicseen (http://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php?topic=16652.0;topicseen)
Have not seen the TV shows (hopefully will get NGC by this weekend when it repeats). My Daughter did watch it and SQUEEE she was on national television for about 2 seconds, hence, my need to get the channel so I can record the program for family posterity.
Until last spring at Sherwood my "jousting" experiences at Faires were all of the choreographed variety. Watching direct contact, hard wood lances, knights being knocked off horses and landing with a solid thud on the ground was, to say the least, impressive. We'll be watching them again at Sherwood.

This is what I posted on the other thread:
Charlie, leader of the Knights comes off as a meathead. He does not appear to have any interest in the renaissance aspect of what he's doing. He is much more into the thought of making jousting a nationally recognized sport. To be honest, the atitude portrayed by him is "I'm gonna make this sport famous, and we won't need these pissant faires anymore." To be fair, I know there's a lot of editing that goes on, but if someone I considered a friend/employer treated me the way he treats those folks, I'd be gone.
I'll be interested to see if he grows on me, but I think publicizing the "drama" behind the curtains could be a mistake. Most Danes only every see the "show" and that's what makes faires popular. However, I will say that while I love the joust "shows" at TRF, this jousting is vastly more interesting and I admire the courage it must take to compete.

That just makes my blood run cold. Can he be charged under the Federal Stolen Valor Act?

I doubt it. They took the teeth out of that act. It seems lying through your teeth and taking credit for something you don't have the courage to do is protected free speech. Damn lawyers...
Yeah I'm watching tonight to see if Charlie The Jerk gets any just desserts.....
We've watched two episodes so far, and yes, we also keep rooting for Charlie to wind up on his back in the dirt. What a jerk! I actually came on the boards tonight hoping there would be come discussion from faire goers who might have seen this asshat in person while they filmed. Episode 3 is on the DVR, so maybe we'll catch up tomorrow. I admit I had a little trouble sitting still when they had flashes of the faire. At one point during the first altercation on the faire grounds, I turned to my husband and said, "That's so not right, its Faire! Its a happy place!" He just laughed in the way adults do to children that don't understand how the real world operates. LOL.
