I think three months out is a good time to start a countdown...
It is 91 days, 0 hours, 33 minutes, 5 seconds until Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 10:00:00 AM
I synchronized my timer. Alarm will go off on time. Huzzah!
Since I missed TRF this year, hope to make it to Sherwood. Opening day is my birthday, so maybe I can talk my family into going. (fingers crossed) :-\

Cool!!
At this point we have put into motion to be there for opening day. We may be able to drag my sister in law along as she doesn't get to come to faires anymore due to baby sitting issues. We are really excited to finally get to go. We were bummed we were unable to go last year.
It is 87 days, 22 hours, 46 minutes, 55 seconds until Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 10:00:00 AM
Huzzah for your countdown good Merlin! Can't wait. Even as TRF is still going on- we await Sherwood!
Nim and I haven't been to TRF in close to 20 years. We had considered it for this year before I had an inconvenient health issue. I'll be good to go by Sherwood, and we are eagerly looking forward to it.
Where's a good place to start if I want to work for a vendor at SFF? I placed an ad in the looking for work thread but don't know what else to do....
There's a Yahoo Group where the cast and vendors post.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/robinandcompany/
Take Care,
David Baldock
Thanks, awesome :)
Even though TRF is 20 minutes away, Sherwood is my favorite faire. Cannot wait to get out there :)
86 days, or 2087 hours until Sherwood!!
I have a confirmation that the Fox Fairy will be back at Sherwood this year.
I am sooo hoping to make it down to Sherwood this coming season, although sadly not for opening. I'm trying to arrange for both of the weekends surrounding spring break, however, so we will be able to get to really know the place, and it's happy inhabitants!
85 days, 32 minutes, 18 seconds, uh, 14 seconds, 8 seconds ...
See what you started, Merlin, when you put up this topic.
After years of doing without any special clocks or watches on my screen, I actually went out, grabbed a countdown clock, then another when that one didn't look good to me.
:)
Accuracy, Polly...Accuracy! ;)
I'm trying, but the clock keeps changing.
Now it's 84 days, 2 hours, 4 minutes, 30 seconds.
Sub-countdown to Dec 3rd Gathering - 13 days
So excited first year we've been able to make it out!
It is 83 days, 3 hours, 29 minutes, 59 seconds until Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 10:00:00 AM and Opening Cannon!
82 days 3 hours 7 minutes 12 seconds to Cannon!
* happy dance, happy dance*
81 days, 4 hours, 3 minutes, 14 seconds!
Wheeeee!
80 days
3 hours
1 minute
46 seconds
Is it too early to start packing?
I'm already getting things ready... so I guess my answer would be "no."
We need some chatter about Sherwood in here like the TRF countdown thread. I will start with what do you love about Sherwood?
what's not to love?!
;D
The only thing I don't love is the eight hours it takes to get there from here.
Edit: By the way, Zardoz... A belated happy birthday...
77 days 20 hours 58 minutes 3 seconds.
It is 76 days, 23 hours, 45 minutes, 51 seconds until Opening Cannon!
Already planning my trip!
I will be making a trip down in Feb.
I would love to give Sherwood Forest Faire a try! I made it out almost every weekend to TRF, and I'm already dreading the long mundane season...
Alas, I don't think I have appropriate garb, and it would kill me to attend as a 'dane :)
What's wrong with the garb you wear to TRF ladylyn? There are barbarians in Sherwood Forest. ;D
The gates to the Texas Renaissance Festival are closed so here we all come to prepare for Sherwood Forest Faire.
Hey... I rhymed there.
Everything I attend I wear Viking garb, although Sherwood is a bit closer to the period than the others.
My Cimmerian barbarian outfit is debuting at Sherwood, so no worries. Barbarians are always welcomed wherever we go, so say all those vulnerable loot-filled villages and monasteries :D

Thank you sir! look forward to seeing you at faire!
8 hours! Sherwood is about 112 miles miles from my house, I generally can make that run in a little under 2 hours. The funny thing is, TRF is like 65 miles away and that trip takes about an hour and a half if I leave early enough to miss the traffic!
More or less, it takes us about 2 or 3 hours to get there, depending on traffic and construction, because we all know how FUN that can be! <sarcasm> lol... Since we'll be camping, the road trip might take a little longer, since we will be driving to the camping area, rather than the outskirts to a hotel.
Even so, we still cannot wait for Sherwood! I'll also be sporting a bigger baby belly, since our cub will be making their appearance a few months later! So now, I need to get some new garb ideas! lol...
Vacation time has been approved! I'll be there opening day! May make a long weekend out of it and stay with my Grandmother in Giddings and go both days but for now I'm day tripping it.
Zardoz and Maeven we know from last year. The rest of you mortals, we have yet to meet. We look forward to it! ...I think...
Can't wait to see you again, Merlin!
Hey Crashbot, do you think we can convince Alex to come out this year?
It's close enough he wouldn't even need to camp it.
I'm going to try and make a couple of weekends, but w/ Tim moving to RI I'm not sure how my lodgings will work out.

That picture was actually taken by husband. It's on my Facebook profile-the link is on my RF.com profile. Lord Randolph's also got me in a few of the picture albums from both Opening and AHE weekends on his Facebook page.

Hey... I rhymed there.
Good to hear there are barbarians and Vikings in Sherwood! Although... one might deem my barbarian garb a bit "racy". Seems OK given the atmosphere at TRF, but one would hate to be "underdressed for the party" at a faire you've never attended.
70 days 4 hours 17 minutes 9 seconds. Wheee!!!

67 days 2 hours 23 minutes and a steadily decreasing number of seconds.
66 days 4 hours 7 minutes and a steadily decreasing number of seconds.

66 days really isn't that long after counting out the next couple weeks shopping and decorating, the week prepping food before Christmas; the week after cleaning up; the week after New Years undecorating, and that only leaves five weeks to finish garb, pack, attend gathering and cleanup, then it will be time for opening canon.
Sherwood Faire is almost here!
;D
We need Jule's Renni math in here...i bet we could cut that down to 40 day or so... ;D
I come up with 38... In Mundane Days, it's 65 days until Opening Cannon. Consider the following:
Winter Solstice doesn't count, because we'll be in the forest dancing naked,
18 weekend days don't count, because of massive intake of Jack Daniel's,
5 days between Christmas and New Years Day don't count, for same reason noted above,
Jan 2nd doesn't count, as it is a day of recovery for what we did above,
My birthday doesn't count, because Jack Daniel's will be visiting again,
Ground Hog Day doesn't count, because groundhogs don't read calendars, silly!...
So, you were pretty close there, Lady Jessica...
65 days 2 hours 31 minutes FA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA !!!!
Y-A-Y!
64 days 3 hours 41 minutes til OPENING CANNON!!!!
;D ;D ;D
Oops, thanks for that "N", Merlin
Hum, a few clicks and I have now added that to my auto correct in Word as I use cannon much more often than canon, not being of the clergy or law field.
You need this 'N' for your post above, Polly... ;)
...edit: You're welcome, Luv... Just don't take the 'n' out of Merlin or I'll be Merli, and that rhymes with squirrelly, and I don't want anyone to get any ideas...
...and we're now looking at 63 days, 1 hour, 25 minutes, 13 seconds until Opening Cannon.
WAIT!!! Down to 62 days, 2 hours, 22 minutes, 18 seconds
Now it's 61 days 22 hours 9 minutes and 33, 32, 31, 30, 29 dang, can't keep up with it.
;D

Beckgam, all I need is the turret. I need to entice some ignorant twits off the road...
Sherwood can`t get here soon enough.
I would really like to be at faire now.
End of the semester, kids are driving me insane with the ton of makeup work they want to do. Seriously. And they have the nerve to be upset if I don't grade it immediately. You waited a month to do a project on you want me to grade it as soon as it is in my hand? Go Away.

We're still kinda debating the FoF passes, but it looks like we might end up getting them. :)
Someone asked for tidbits. Hmmm, let's see. Knights of Mayhem will use solid Hemlock lances every show so come early in the season. I'm not sure we'll have a joust by week 6 cuz they'll all be in the hospital. We're adding a Maypole Dance so you'll want to join the inaugural season of that. Robin's Feast is an all you can eat and drink extravaganza. If you're camping, or have a designated driver, you might want to give that a go. VaNaMazi will be playing the full run. They are incredibly talented. Nationally ren-known Fool Hearty will be in Sherwood Forest to entertain the kiddos. Also check out Saxon Moon. They are a new band and wicked awesome. We will open the fairgrounds to Friends of Faire on the evenings of Friday March 16th, Friday March 23rd and closing day (night) Sunday April 1st. Plus all the entertainers, cast, artisans, and merchants you've met on your travels in our first 2 seasons. Ok, post too long. Stopping now. Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to all y'all. :D
Long posts are okay, Antioch. Taking time to read them only takes us closer to Opening Cannon, which is scheduled to occur in 49 days, 1 hour, 10 minutes, 47 seconds!
We will most definitely be getting our FOF passes. I will most likely not get to attend this year due to work travel but in the unlikely chance I'll get to attend at least one weekend, I will have my pass.
Ho, Ho, Ho! (I must be in the red-light district!) Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

I ordered my tickets for the feast just the other day! Oh and I don't know if this has been posted anywhere but Opening weekend tickets are on sales for $8 per ticket!
We Wizards like you Bad girls.... Huzzah
Still trying to decide if things will be good enough that I can go more than one day.... Money is VERY tight.... and I was planning to buy the pass so I can go more than one weekend...but now it is looking like I may not be able to go more than one weekend due to funds... UGGHHH Slightly bummed about this... if I could just find a buyer for the old house!!!! Cat
Crap! Each of the Fridays listed as FoF events are nights I can't make it.
Sigh.
But still, I should be out there all but one weekend this year in some fashion or another.
*have rum will travel*
Also, finally got off my lazy butt and ordered our FoF tickets for the year. I really like the bonuses that come with them each year!
*Next I think they should have a free shot of rum with each ticket. I only want a mugfull, that's not to much to ask :-)*
Well I went ahead and got the plain Season pass... now to make sure I have funds to go...UGGH!
According to my hourglass, it is but 43 days, 20 hours, 29 minutes, 35 seconds until the cannon sounds to welcome us to the 3rd Annual Sherwood Forest Faire.
42 is usually my favorite number. But not when it is how many days away faire is.
*I could use some rum to speed my days along... Oh! Here it is!*
I'm kinda confused. We got our FoF passes, but we weren't prompted to give a picture. Also, when we got the confirmation email, we only got one set of tickets. Am I reading it wrong?
Last season a separate email went out to FoF pass holders with details about the pictures. I don't however remember how the tickets worked when buying multiples and I haven't bought mine yet.
This is from the website Maeven:

For our returning Friends of Faire, we can use the same photo and faire name as last year if you wish. Just let us know if you'd like to do that.
Submit your information via email to idbadges@sherwoodforestfaire.com.
______________________________________________________
So if you didn't have one from last year, just send them a headshot that you want on the card.
We also only got the one set. Basically, you'll use that to get in the gate the first time if you haven't received your card already.
*I expect a minor rum gift for supplying information :-)*
Thanks so much for the info! Teach, you will get a nice treat come Opening Weekend! :)
FoF passes procured. Keeping the fingers crossed to actually be able to attend.
/Old intoxicated phart mode on
Still have my MoF (Management of Faire) pass from 1st and 2nd year. No free Faire entrance, no free Patron camping. Work from noon Friday to noon Monday (sometimes late into the night). Benefits - meeting a bunch of great folks both in-Faire and in the campgrounds. Wouldn't give it up for anything.
Got bottles of Cold Duck, Pink Champaign, Spumante to celebrate the New Year tonight.
/Old intoxicated phart mode off
Be careful out there, Mike! Tonight's Amateur Night on the highways and byways...
My Moondial is reading 41 days, 16 hours, 26 minutes, 10 seconds until Opening Cannon
Yesterday, I mentioned to my husband, "Next month is Sherwood..."
and we couldn't help but smile! :)
40 Days and some 15 minutes to go!!!!!!!!!
I am so hoping to make it out this year...I am already having withdrawls...only made it to TRF opening weekend this year, was not enough to get my fix! The little pirate is also already asking if we are going to the festival again...
Sure hope you can make it out Wyckd. You'll love our little cozy spot in the forest (o:
Confirmation on our rooms at the Quality Inn in Bastrop. The discount was better for being old than for being a Sherwood visitor, but that's okay. We'll be bringing 3 non-RFers, but they're nice people despite that. One of them just recently (last May) lost his faire virginity at OkRF. The other two generally visit Scarby with us once a year.
I'm hoping for cool weather this year for opening. Last year was pretty warm on both days (for me, anyway), but was at least breezy on Sunday. We are SOOO excited about coming down again!
Last year was a bit warm from beginning to end to me and I generally like it when it is warmer. There was even a day when I almost went down from the heat (aided by new meds and not knowing how they would react with rum). I really just hope there are some showers here and there to help keep the dust down a bit.
*the rum and meds have reached an accord... I can still have me rum*
I agree with the need to keep the dust down, and will add, keep the fire ban away (o:
I'm almost afraid to see what the Bastrop area looks like, when we come down next month. Hopefully, the weather will be more helpful this year.
We will be there on opening weekend! Camping at the front with the other castles on wheels. See y'all soon! :)
WONDERFUL!!! MacKee's turn to buy, Bonny...better remind him. ;)
Edit: I just noticed: It is 38 days, 18 hours, 37 minutes, 09 seconds until Opening Cannon.

Done! ;D
While no one was watching, it became 36 days, 20 hours, 23 minutes, 15 seconds until Opening Cannon
Merlin the Elder we all need to get a spell going to get these Faires here sooner.
::) Any faster, I'd have some `splainin' to do, Lucy. After being off for 6-weeks for health reasons, if I tell them I need a couple days off to go to a Ren Faire, I'm liable to get expelled from the school! No...Feb 10 is about the right time to take a day off... :P
...and by the way, we're down to 35 days, 17 hours, 43 minutes, 05 seconds.
Execellent time keeping lad.
Is PollyPoPo picking a peck of pickled peppers while popping prescription pills and piling plates of potatoes before particular persons?
Just wondering...she hasn't been around this thread since before Xmas. The countdown clock is down to 50500 minutes.
Hey, Hey, great Merlin.
I have been around this thread, just not stopping long, bouncing around several threads. ;D
Holiday obligations have calmed down a bit, but gearing up for Sherwood now. (If I can get the sewer drain line cleared before then. :-\)
Just wanted to make sure you were okay... 5 weeks from this very moment we will be just inside the gates of Sherwood on opening day, greeting Queen Bonnie and all the good people! Wow! It's really close!
Doing happy dance!
:D
Well, as much as old knees and hurting ankles will allow.
Wow, 5 weeks! ;D
Both the husband and I are re-checking our garb ( I may be upgrading my style, I feel like it's too plain ) and getting ready for opening weekend, where we will be camping at faire for the first time! So excited!
We're camping as well. The Quality Inn in Bastrop is supposed to have some nice tents complete with king-sized bed and full bath, microwave and `fridge. Old bones need some special treatment, unfortunately.
I was just discussing being out there for the gathering and thinking... It's Sunday, 5 weeks from today I will be stumbling out of my tent for day two.
Day two is usually a bit slower moving than day one for some reason.
*I drink plenty of rum, it should be just as fast paced*
With the impending birth any... *checks watch and looks at wife's belly* ... any second now, we're probably not going to make it till later in the run of Sherwood, but we will be there. Camping... no idea, depends entirely on how Tiff and Abigeál are doing. Any suggestions?
Starting to look as though Scally and I might be missing Sherwood for another season. Increases in rent and other financial obligations seem to be working to keeps us from our friends down there. We WILL be making it to Scarby in April, however, so I hope that we will be seeing many of you there! If things change for the better between now and the Sherwood season then we will happily make the trip down, but at the moment it doesn't look promising... :(
Hmmm... Since no one is excited about the fact that Sherwood Forest's Opening Day Opening Cannon will be firing in 32 days, 13 hours, 3 minutes, 45 seconds, I won't bother to mention it....

Mention it! I'm going crazy picking out new garb pieces and making sure the tent/camping supplies we will be using are all up to snuff! even though we only live 20 minutes away from SWFF, I do not want to leave and come back for anything once we are inside and set up!
I'm so excited, I need a little break with reality after how my job in retail has been these past few months...
Merlin the Elder if i were anymore excited ;D, I would have to be waiten in front of the gates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It`s time for these faires to get here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I keep telling myself, "Don't get excited! Don't get excited! It will be here soon!" But, do I listen? Hell, no.
Reservations for the five of us are made at the Quality Inn, Bastrop; Homer, the Odyssey, has had his second 10,000 mile servicing done in preparation; most of our garb is packed... not excited at all.
Looking forward to seeing you all at Sherwood!
Thanks to a screw up (mine) my Lovely Lady wasn't able to get opening Saturday off. We will be out that weekend but I am not sure now if I will day trip Saturday or camp (all alone... skeery).

I was thinking of taking a car pencil-the thingies that are used to write things on the car windows-and putting "Sherwood or bust! (But hopefully, Sherwood!)" on the car windows, but it's still in the "thinking" stages. lol

24 Days
595 Hours
35721 Minutes until opening!
Garb is finished and packed, bags waiting by the door, and hopefully my friend remembered to make reservations at the Quality Inn in Bastrop.... I think I should probably check on that :P

You have to be very careful what you say around me... "Anything you say can and will be used against you in a devilishly, wizardly manner." You also have the right to an attorney, although that probably won't save you around me. (You know I love you, Maeven... :-*)
Aww shucks, Merlin :) lol

22 days, 12 hours, 46 minutes, 30 seconds
until the opening cannon sounds at Sherwood opening day...

Truck is loaded and ready for the gathering. I'll see some of you tomorrow
Question about the gathering!
Does it end Saturday night, Sunday morning or Sunday night? I work Saturday, but I'm off Sunday so I can totally get out there if it ends Sunday night!
We also have reservation for the Quality Inn in Bastrop, TX for opening weekend. I just bought opening weekend discount tickets and I'm now off to inspect our Garb to see what we shall bring that weekend, or more importantly, what is in need of cleaning and repair.
We made arrangements for our furry four legged child with a speech impediment to stay with his breeder.
No I'm not excited either.
Merlin, I will pack a bottle of GOOD scotch,(at least 12 year old) since you and I seem to enjoy it. The lead crystal glasses might have to stay home, I don't want to break my Waterford Crystal. But we will find something appropriate to drink it from.
What seems to be missing in this countdown thread, is a countdown. So here it is:
It is 19 days, 12 hours, 54 minutes, 20 seconds until Opening Day Opening Cannon!!!!!!
We made some great improvements to our parking area this weekend, and our tent area is prepped and ready for move in. Still lots of behind the scenes stuff to do. Fix the arbors, find a chimney for my anchor lamp, stage the camping gear, weather proof the tent (again). And all in three weeks.
I've got 19 days and 25 minutes to cannon on my clock! Fingers crossed the last few days here go FAST then quickly slow down so we can all have lots of time to enjoy Sherwood!

I'll tell you what, Maeven, you bring your baby to Sherwood, and we'll give her a shower. You bring the soap and towel.
LOL!!!! :D
It's Maeven who'd get that shower, since baby isn't dues until May, I believe! :D
Well Maeven needs a shower too you know. ;D
And by then she might just appreciate the assistance!!! ;) :D
Last time I saw Maeven, she was pretty clean ... like Paul's grandfather... ::)
You guys are crazy! LOL
But the next time you see her she'll be rather pregnant, and as someone who has BEEN pregnant before, I am speaking from experience when I say that, at 8 months, things are just not as easy as they might have been in the, uhhh... unpregnant state. :P :D
We are down to 17 days, friends! Or as I look at it, 2 more weekends before THE weekend! Can't wait to see all of your happy faces!
17 days, wow. Looks like I need to start getting things ready for a great year!
yup, so much left to do and as always time is running out quickly
Only 17 days?!?! I gotta get moving!
Don't you try moving too fast, Hon!
17 days, 6 hours, 0 minutes 5 seconds
Yep, it's 4:00 in the morning.
We need rain, but, bejeebers, does it have to be a short downpour about once an hour, every hour, for the last five hours, lots of wind and fury, but little water? Kept waking me up, so I gave up and put the coffee on.
Spent last Saturday at Sherwood helping clean up a camp spot – tent is up – SO WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG TO GET HERE!!!!
I'll be better after my second cup of coffee.
With all the wind and fury, Polly, I hope the tent is still up! The storms are coming right by us, but seem to be skirting us to the west. I'm sure that will change soon.
The storm is just down the road from me. Should be here shortly. We are getting the winds right now. Rain soon to follow. I hope all of the tents are still up as well. There was a huge turn out last weekend and many tents went up. Lets hope they are unharmed by the weather.
Okay, power is back on and I've finished my coffee.
Sun is trying to peak through. Not horribly much rain, just messy.
As for tents, we'll just have to wait and see. With all the trees towering over our tents, they should have some shelter from winds, I think. Besides, it's 100 miles from here and who knows what kind of morning they've had there.
Just waiting for FAIRE.
Sherewood's about 15 minutes down the road from us, and the storm hit between 5-6am. Lots of wind and rain, but no lightning. I imagine many tree limbs fell, but not much else. It was done after a couple of hours and now it's just cloudy with a strong chance of rain.
Just to make sure everyone is getting their act together, I have to warn you that it's 16 days, 22 hours, 38 minutes and 30 seconds until the cannon fires to open Sherwood Forest Festival for its 3rd year!
Stupid question, what's the temp like usually opening weekend? Just want to know which garb I need to pack and what I can leave home. Of course I'll check the weather the day we leave, but can anyone give me rough Ideas?
It might be just me, but I remember it being pretty mild, there was a good breeze and the morning was kinda chilly for me, but not terribly chilly.
Granted, things may change being Texas and all, but the week before looks to be lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s to low 70s. I would imagine opening to be thereabouts.
I'm hoping that too, Magpie. I mentioned before that last year, it was hot (for me) opening day, but much breezier and cooler on Sunday. Texas, like Arkansas, where I am, is prone to wide variations in short periods.
I know that one. TRF last year for closing weekend:
Fri: Beautiful with excellent temps and low winds.
Sat.: Near freezing rain and drizzle all day.
Sun: COLD with high winds to accentuate the chill.
Difficult to garb for all 3, lol. Our carriage is not that big. ::)

They are letting clans in on weekends to set up camps as I understand. If anyone can get in to take a look at PR camp and let me know if there is damage to the stuff set up I would greatly appreciate it!
*might even be a shot of rum in it for you*
I thought I read it to be the week days leading up to opening weekend. I've sent a message to Mike to clarify. Haven't heard back yet.
I didn't have the email in front of me, I could be wrong on that. It's happened before
*Once, I thought I was out of rum but after a bit of scared tears I realized I was wrong*
15 days!
Does no one here use Rennie Math?? Ok let's see if I have this right...Today doesn't count because well it's today. Saturday and Sunday don't count because we have too much to do and they just fly by anyway...oh and we're still in football season. the Thursday before doesn't count because we'll be packing and getting every thing ready. And Friday doesn't count, for thosse camping, because most everyone will be traveling to the campgrounds. So that means we have...*mumbles...1,2,3, doesn't count...mumbles*

Got a reply back from Mike, you are correct, the camp area is open from now until opening weekend, every day. The catch being that no one is allowed in the faire at all. So how is this going to work for the privvy? No idea, maybe management will chime in.
Just over two weeks and we'll all be jumping for joy!

1 days, 23 hours, 7 minutes until faire!
The wife and I just got back from the campgrounds. A couple of tents look like they may have collapsed and any up turned containers have been filled with water, but aside from that, everything looks fine!
My clock says 14 days, 22 hours, 51 minutes, 38 seconds.
But that is not using rennie math, just plain calendar (and a countdown clock app I downloaded). ;D

The curses of us using really old laptops - sometimes buttons don't work as they should!
Just being in the campgrounds today re-energized me for faire. Also, my faerie corset is done and will be purchased/shipped soon so my entire garbset will be in my hands, ready to be worn. Druid one day, Faerie the next
Okay, now... It will be hard not to know me: I'm the one with the lovely wife, the long beard, and the face that sank a thousand ships. But some of you don't post your picture or it's not cropped closely enough to see (I have very old eyes).
So, Polly, be sure to make yourself known to us, and the rest of you as well! We will be there for opening!!!!!! ...and we're bringing some Sherwood virgins.
Merlin the younger made name tags for many of us with our board names when we had the rendevous. I just wear mine on my garb. Then again most people can recognize me because I'm standing next to the Pink Pirate who is wearing "What is eccentially a couch with feathers" (his words not mine.) He is a little hard to miss.
As always, just go running up to someone, compliment their garb, and start a conversation. Best way to meet someone. I still think I scared Merlin the first time I walked up to him at Scarby opening last year.
You didn't scare me, but I didn't recognize you....I'll admit that. It takes a lot more to scare me! ...like looking into the mirror when I get up in the morning...
If you see Belle Saturday, you'll have found me!
So Merlin,
Do I hug you first or introduce myself and then hug you? Don't want to give you a apoplexy.
I have no problem with the lovely ladies running up to me hugging me. I would suggest you keep an eye out for Nim... ;)
Oh, please... she'll just roll her eyes and hope they don't knock you down!!!
Besides, it's not like you'd actually ever try to DRIVE one of those new cars, even if you COULD catch it... :P ;) :D
Hell, Rani... I have no delusions, none at all. However, you might be surprised at what tricks a wizard has learned in his many years... :P
Two weeks from this very moment, we will be up and about, gathering our wits, and preparing ourselves to walk through the gates of Sherwood Forest!
Clan Chaos hs a red tent and a white tent collapsed. Naughtyham has a tent down.
I wonder if my hotel is still standing... don't laugh. Last year, the hotel we were staying in for Scarby had part of the front come off during the night...

Hey, I just remembered, this is a "countdown" thread.
13 days, 00 hours, 6 minutes, 42 seconds.
But 13 days is way too long, Polly!!! So, patiently I waited...
It is now 12 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds until OPENING CANNON!!!
Ah, patience as well as wisdom.
Wisdom?!? Who are you taking to? ??? :P
for what its worth here is what the ole Farmers almanc says for the openning weekend Feb 9-13: Snow showers, then sunny, cold north; rainy periods, mild south; Feb 14-19: Sunny, cool; Feb 20-25: Rain, then sunny, warm; Feb 26-29: Snow showers north, sprinkles south; cold. Think I'll pack me long johns just in case.
It is 12 days, 3 hours, 42 minutes, 46 seconds
until Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 10:00:00 AM (Houston time)
Cleaned up Homer, the Odyssey, in preparation for the trip...
...he's also had his 20k mile checkup.
Garb bin is being packed tonight
Assembly point and time for group has been established and announced
Rooms are reserved
Reservations for the dogs at the spa have been made
Local bank has been robbed so that we have travel and spending money
.........I think we're almost ready!!!!
Reservations were made, it's definitely feeling official! (granted, I would sleep in a ditch for this faire :)) Not too long until I get to meet all you lovely people in the flesh!
started pulling out the garb for the PP including his new "warm weather" outfit. I have a feeling he will be wearing his 'stolen couch' most of the weekend. Fuzzlet has 2 outfits done, but her Pink Pirate needs some final hand sewing on it. One of her outfits is her pirate's treasure bunting bag. She will be nice and toasty warm. As for me, I need to see what all I have that still fits!

Just bought tiki torches, solar lamps, and a wrought iron lantern holder for our campgrounds. Always a work in progress.
10 days and 9 minutes!
I need to talk to the weatherman...I don't like his forecast...

I'm not sure if you can still find them this time of year, but last year around Halloween I found solar-powered Christmas lights that worked really well for lighting our campsite at TRF. The nice thing about them is they also add color and help your site stand out more. This was vital for us, since we had no fires last year to light our path.

We've got plenty of lantern holders. I had them made by the blacksmith inside Sherwood, down by the arena. Now we have to find enough lanterns or candle holders to hang from them (o:
Okay, countdown
9 days 1 hour 16 minutes 28 seconds.
wheeeee!
Polly, it's getting hard to get my work done! I keep jumping up and down and peeing my pants! I need some Depends, I guess...

I am SOOOOO ready...still trying to see what the weather is going to be so I know which garb to haul out!

Cuteness bomb!
Seriously, though, what'd be the best weekend for a newborn, neither too hot nor too cold?
Next week sounds good, Breandan. If she wants her picture taken with an old wizard, it will be her only chance at Sherwood this year! She is a beautiful child...
8 days, 2 hours, 54 minutes, and 0 seconds before the cannon fires and opens the gates for the 3rd season of the Sherwood Forest Faire
What a perfect way to start the day! Adorable baby and knowing we're in the single digits for the countdown!
Breandan, I'm with Merlin, as that may be the only weekend I'm out there, but I know that it's too early. But B, you also know that this is Texas and asking what weekend is neither too hot or too cold is like asking us to if it's going to rain on your street next Monday evening. It'll vary from county to county and by how much Mother wants to play with us that day. My suggestion is to pick a weekend and just go, you know you'll have fun. (But I do secretly wish and hope you'll make it out for opening. ;D )
Breandan, such cuteness! An explosion of adorable! :)
You just wait, Maeven...you're next!

Meh... we decided we didn't want to waste our time with Sherwood this year..... Nominated for BS of the year!!!
One week from this very day, plus 2 hours, 49 minutes, and 15 seconds
(Lets out a Wizard Squee... much more butch than a Lord Dragon squee)
:P
I can't wait to get my hugs from all the Ren Hunnies... someone divert Nim's attention...
Looking forward to seeing you again Merlin, I have something special from Tennessee for you. ;)
I can't wait for my first time camping, my first time at an opening weekend, and my first time meeting many of all of you! I'm getting excited for all these hugs people seem to give out... Hopefully a timid little Druid will score some!
Merlin, while my magic is young and untrained, I've been casting what I can to move the rains to another day, and I'm about wiped out. May I borrow a cup of mugwort? ;D

I wish that was my case! I had an 11 hour shift yesterday, a 12 tomorrow, and a 12 on Wednesday with lots of school inbetween. I'm gonna be scramblin on Thursday night to get all the crap together! :D
I had those kind before. I finally told em "I know you love my work ethic, but stop trying to kill me." ;D
It's not that I'm irreplaceable, but when they say, "We need this right away...Have it for us by Monday," my response is, "Sorry...faire this weekend." Their response to that would be, "Oh! Okay...next week is fine." :D
Goodness!! I just glanced at my sundial, and it says that it is 5 days, 21 hours, 42 minutes, 48 seconds until opening cannon!

One time my boss came into my office with a project about 5 minutes before quitting time, saying it HAD to be done by morning. I stayed till 2:30 AM finishing it up. Next morning at 8AM, I walked it in to my bosses office, where it sat on the corner of the desk for 3 days...
Needless to say I no longer work there.
Now I am appreciated.
Justified, Keeper...totally justified. Worked at an architect/engineer firm once—draftsman—the boss came in with a project and handed it to one of my coworkers, giving him a week to complete it. As soon as the boss walks out, John goes back to reading his newspaper. On the 6th day (John had hardly touched the project), boss wants to know if it's ready, John complains that he didn't have enough time, so boss hands the project to me. The project is handed back completed the following day...on schedule.
I voiced a complaint to the boss, and he said, "We know what goes on. John's been here for 12 years, you've been here for less than 1, and you're already making more than he is." I didn't worry about it after that. But good bosses are rare...
And that leaves us with 5 days, 3 hours, 31 minutes, and 20 seconds to go before cannon...
So much to do still!
Once again going for the rennie math...
Today doesn't count cause it's past noon.
Friday doesn't count cause I don't have to work and I'll be packing and running around doing errands.
So I have 3 days until faire!!! ;D ;)
I'd just like to point out that the entertainment schedule has been posted. :D
Now to plot my days.
(** naught plus naught equals naught, carry the naught **) Why, Lady Jessica! My calculations concur with yours. As was overheard at a festival some years back, "Three days, man!" I hope there's at least ONE of you who know the reference!
One 12 hour shift down.
Only one more to go, and two days of classes...
So excited!!!!! ;D
By Rennie math I believe we only have 3 days left! Today, tomorrow, thursday... Friday just doesn't count.
Magpie Flynn, today doesn't count either...so...
2 DAYS!!!
What's everyone so excited about?? ::)
You know you are getting excited when even listening to your faire CD's is not quenching your faire thirst. ;D
Kind of like that commercial of the woman waiting on the store to open. "Open, open, open, open, open, open, open, open, open!"

Haha! Well being almost 3pm now today certainly doesn't count! Shoot, after my test is finish, I'll be count 0 days cause my week will essentially be over and I'll be good for nothing other than waiting anxiously by the door with my bags :D
Working on paper writing so I can be ahead and not be stressed opening weekend.
Friday seems so far away and so close all at the same time.
*Prolly should stop at the store for more rum...*
RUM!!! What a NOVEL idea! Red Rum! Red Rum! ... screw it...
Decompressing as we "speak." Two margarita's helped. Tomorrow and Thor's Day, I will telecommute. On Friday...the day of Frigg...I shall mount my noble steed Homer, the Odyssey, and begin my trek to the shire of Bastrop, where I shall rest my weary head. On the day of Saturn, I shall load the coach drawn by Homer, the Odyssey, and carry the passengers and cargo to the gates of Sherwood Forest, in time to parlay with my friends.... Soon, my dear friends...very soon!

OK, I've got all my kit packed up, did I forget anything???
At the rate this week is going, I'm going to forget to bring my butt...
ANYONE NEED ANY TICKETS: After just purchasing my group's tickets two days ago, two of the crew has bailed on me. Now I have four (4) tickets, good ONLY this weekend, that I need to peddle. At the gate, tickets will be $9, or online they are $8+$1 service charge... these tickets may be had for $8, and I'll eat the service charge. Meh.. you'll save a buck each... If you are interested, speak up
Tickets have been allocated...thanks for playing.
Merlin, sending you a PM regarding this. We are intrested in 2.
Well, now! We've burned off a few hundred more minutes since the last announcement... It's down to
3899 Minutes until cannon!
Made liquor store run already (emergency! was out of JD!) Got some Harp (for Kett! [and me]) and some Granny Smith (Angus!)
Will pick up our passenger at 7:00 a.m. Friday morning, and head that way!
Won`t be much longer now before we are all home at the faire once again. I can`t wait till
Saturday ;D. I can`t wait to see Queen Bonnie once again, it has been a will since our last meeting at scarborough....................Huzzah
YAY Harp!
I am officially at 0 days. I pack tomorrow night, and we leave Friday night.
SQUEE!
Just gotta get through tomorrow and Friday, then heading down around 5pm! and my friend Ashley is tagging along so I'll have someone to talk to in the car (besides myself and imaginary friends :P).
Project- COMPLETE!
Last work shift of the week- COMPLETE!
Mission: Acquire Rum- SUCCESS!
Now...to pack everything... :o Oh yeah, I haven't started yet. /passes out
Sleep first. Pack tomorrow.
I hurt myself attempting a manly wizard squee. I shant be attempting that again, at least for a while. (where the hell did I put that truss??)
only 48 hours until we're let in the gates!
My sundial puts it at 2889 minutes.
My device from the "future" says...
1 day, 23 hours, 52 mins, until gate opens...
My Rennie math says 0 days!!!
today doesn't count cause well...it's already today. Tomorrow doesn't count cause I'm off froom work! I'll see everyone Saturday!
I can't believe it is finally almost here. I need this break (like most people I am sure).
Tomorrow night I shall arrive, do some minor setting up thanks to being able to put up my tent in advance, and the drinking shall begin.
*wonder if I should try this new rum thing I keep hearing about*
Is new rum better than old rum? How come we never hear about 15 year old rum? Does it not improve with age? Or is it that you drink it all before it has a chance?
I think Teach has an IV from the distillery... No chance of rum reaching puberty around him.
Dog is at the kennel, Car is packed, We'll be leaving here in an hour or two. Going to do the trip in two parts, makes it easier on the driver that way.
See you Saturday morning, except you Merlin we'll catch up with you Friday night at the hotel.
Drive safe everyone.
*Old rum does exist. Though not for long around me*
Almost there!!!!
This is as bizarre as it gets...two nights this week I had great difficulty with sleep. My mind was on overload about faire. I actually have butterflies, I think. I must need this getaway a lot worse than I realized!
2636 Minutes....
I've been the same, Merlin. Last few days I've been feeling like I'm about to jump out of my skin.
Heading up in the morning. Much to do. As we say in the Navy: "Things to do and people to do them to".
Will try to stop by the tailgate on Saturday AM as I have to check the campers in the main parking lot.
Otherwise, please say hello if you catch me circulating in the Faire area. I have no fixed schedule, as I am subject to go where the radio calls. I try to hover around the Seven Sisters, glaring at those who put cigarette butts on the grounds or leave trash. I should be at the Seven Sisters during the Fairy Tea Party, as the Chaos clan act as protectors of the Fairies, as they are the source of our BBQ Fairy Wings we relish (plus we have had some drunken idiots harass the faie folks). Will be at the full contact jousting in the afternoon, plus trying to be at as many Circa Paleo performances as possible.
If you are camping, wave at the old Phart in the golf utility cart as I pass through.
Signing off for the weekend. I may be able to receive emails at the two hotspots in Faire, but may be too busy to check. This is my soul battery recharging season. I work my weed puller off, but feel so good at the end of every weekend.
Peace and love. If not applicable, floggings called for.
MikeP, looking at the entertainment schedule, there is a Fairy Pic-Nick scheduled at 3:00 at the Chess Board. The Seven Sisters tea party is not on the new schedule.
Might want to make sure because fairy wings are tasty, err, most delicate and pretty.
Leaving right now for Bastrop! See you soon!
Safe travels, Merlin! See you Saturday! :)
Only a wake up away. ;D Then My carriage heads out to the gates of Sherwood............Huzzah
The excitement builds! I'll be heading out around 5pm today (ah! so late!) which means I'll get into Bastrop around 9pm. I wish I could leave sooner, alas, I still have classes today :(
rolling out in a couple of hours ;D see everyone at the Tailgate and/or M&G !
Here safely! See some tonight, others in the morning...

Great Opening Day! Had a lot of fun, enjoyed seeing everyone and loved the faire overall! The weather, while cold, was great! We had to stand in the sun a lot! My husband had minor surgery during the week and we had to leave early to change his dressing, but we still left at a decent time. I think we're actually coming down with a little something-nothing too terrible-my husband feels a little worse than I am, while I'm just sniffly and that's about it. Since I haven't really been exposed to the chilly temperatures in a while, my body temperature dropped a little, giving our little one a chance to act crazy in there. For a while, she was settling herself in and it was hurting quite a bit to walk and the pain was in my back for a little while. So it looks like we will be in mundanes tomorrow to stay warm! LOL! Looking forward to seeing everyone again tomorrow! :)
I've heard some rumours of the possibility of some liquid sunshine tomorrow, but I shall try to keep that at bay, but there does also remain the threat of us having to drive home in the snow on Monday, so my focus may be a little flaky...
We also had an amazingly wonderful time. We had a rickshaw ride that was crazy fun! Down the hill at breakneck speeds!
Great opening day. :) It was Great to meet everyone. I hope to make it back at least one more time, this season..........Huzzah
It was indeed a wonderful day. By the afternoon it was not terribly cold (as long as you were in the sun) My little one loved "faery land" and wants to see more pirates. LOL. We will be back again in a few weeks.
Besides freezing my tush off, we had a great time! Unfortunately, after having a comrade go down by dehydration with a very close brush with hypothermia, and being sleep deprived, I threw in my hat and said enough last night. We left out at around 9 or so last night, and I pulled back into Denton at around 130 this morning. Much love to all, I am very sad that I missed last nights festivities and faire today.
The Meggers and cold just doesn't mix all that well.
I wondered where you were today...it was a lot warmer at cannon today than yesterday, by at least a degree or two. The wind was much calmer though, so it felt better.
In the afternoon, it did get colder again once the clouds returned, and we enjoyed a brief bit of sleet. We managed to hold out until a bit after 3pm, but being several centuries older than you, Meg, I, too, had to throw in the towel. Being frozen, it knocked some poor bystander out cold...get it? "out cold?" Yeah, terrible joke...
In all seriousness though, this weekend was wonderful. The camaraderie, the huddling in the cold...it was all good. We got to meet George and RenGypsy, and visited briefly with Mike between his duties. (If you guys see this, I had PMed all three of you a couple weeks back about something, and hadn't heard from you on the question. If you didn't get it, PM me and let me know, please!)
What makes Sherwood so special? I purchased a ceramic wizard from one vendor last year. Business was slow that opening Sunday and we visited for a while. He remembered me this year, asked me how things were back in Arkansas... Mr Lady Mac recognized me last year, and greeted me again this year by name as I approached their shoppe. I enjoyed a long visit with them...again. I'm from another state, and these people are greeting me like a long-lost cousin! I'm not a vain person by any stretch of the imagination, but being greeted as a familiar face by people who may only see you once a year, or in some cases, have never laid eyes on you in person, but it makes you feel like someone special.
There seems to be a lot of people making other people feel special at Sherwood. If you haven't been to Sherwood, you are missing something decidedly unique and special.
RenGypsy, that wasn't necessary at all, but it meant a lot more than you realize...
enjoyed a brief bit of sleet?
You grow addled in your years wizard. Just Sayin'
Actually outside of that everything you speak is very true. I was asked to describe Sherwood to someone Friday night and the best thing I could think of was take everything good from TRF and Scarby and condense it into a smaller faire. That is what Sherwood is.
*It's like the smaller rum makers whose brews totally outclass Bicardi and Capt. Morgan. It's because they love what they are doing and it shows*

I enjoied seeing those that I did see out at faire and I'm sorry that I missed those that I did not get to see.
I surprised a few people by showing up Friday night and really enjoied myself. Saturday was wonderful just walking around by myself I ran into Maeven and her hubby a few times. Then it was off to the feast and what a delight that was! I highly recommened the feast and I KNOW I'll be going to do that from here on out. I only have two complaints about the feast, salt and pepper needed to be on the table and there were a few times when it was hard to hear our hosts but other than that I will be going back to it next year!

We were at the feast, too, down at the end by Robin and Marian, on same side as George who was not the King that day. I thought about salt and pepper, too, but found after the first glass of wine I really didn't need it. After 3 glasses my daughter sang a blessing for Robin and Marian - missed a few notes here and there, (that happens with 3 glasses of wine :-*), but it was the thought that counted. ::) Actually I was pleasantly surprised she got all the words out.
The camping equipment arrived today, cannot wait until next weekend. I'd like to thank Coleman for designing an airbed that is either a king, two twins, or a double stacked twin, which is what someone of my size enjoys.
With any luck I'll actually be in camp next weekend Jack. Hope to see ya there.

2- Celebrating my 11th birthday!

The Lovely Lady Trinn and I will be pulling in this Friday evening around 7ish for the happiest weekend I have had at faire in a long while
1- Celebrating the birth of a new grandson!
2- Celebrating my 11th birthday!
3- Celebrating getting my masters degree!
Come on out to camp PR if you're there and let's have a blast!
*I don't think there is enough rum in the rum store to supply me this weekend*
Sounds like the makings of an awesome weekend, and so far it looks good that I'll actually be in town. I look forward to celebrating with you. I have plenty of rum to share (o:
Teach is going to have an awesome weekend, indeed! :)
Every weekend at Sherwood is awesome. I intend to make this one... awesomer!
*Rum shall flow like the a river... right into my mug*
Happy birthday Teach. But you do know that it is illegal for an 11 year old to consume alcohol without a parent or guardian present. I am just saying... ;D
I dunno... For an 11 year old, Teach has a pretty snazzy mustache.
ROFL!
You call that a mustache?!? :P

Rolling on the floor, laughing, ;D - now that's funny.
