I am at a Quandary.
Lord Dragon has been approach by a local group to play Captain Teague to their Jack Sparrow. And the main thing I head about this character, besides being Keith Richard's of the Stones' is that he has the most awesome coat.
Upon research, I could that the coat was actually made from red damask curtain that the wardrobe ladies at Disney found and the back of the coat, which is never seen, was pieced in with something else. 1st problem, Second are those beautiful Appliques down the front and the sleeve cuffs. I was thinking the found other damask, cut out the design, and used those as the appliques, but I could be very wrong. Any suggests on how this might have been done, would be greatly appreciated. We did find something close on e-bay, but the red is all wrong.
I realize I'll never be close to exact, but I'd like to get close if I'm spending the time making this coat. So Any help would be appreciated. Also a photo is worth 1000 word, so a snatched a few from the internet.

Thank you ladies. for any and all help in advance.
Well, those two pictures show very different reds, and it can be *very* hard to tell on film what color something is IRL (for example, the cloaks worn by all the major characters in the LOTR films look green on screen (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/Diannew/Lord%20of%20the%20Rings/cloak11.jpg), but are actually a silvery grey (http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL417/1033223/22830965/380104201.jpg)). So I think you're pretty open with the color.
That said, I had really great luck recently using damask tablecloths from Penney's (for my kirtle (http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL417/1033223/23882966/398339163.jpg)). They have two shades of red (http://www.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6E.aspx?GrpTyp=ENS&ItemID=170eb7c&DeptID=70755&CatID=83529&SO=0&SelDim=5~&x5view=1&NOffset=0&Ne=5+879+615+1031+8+18+949&shopperType=G&N=4294930723+4294965190&Nao=0&PSO=0&bcCat=3&CmCatId=70755%7C83529), and they ship free to JC Penney stores, so there's no risk if neither color works for you.
The appliques are going to be harder. I think if you can find something with the right swirly arabesques, that will be the easiest way to go (but finding the right fabric might prove difficult). Another option would be to find (or draw) out the shapes you like, then enlarge them to full size (project them on a wall and trace them out, or print them out progressively larger). You might have luck doing a Google image search for "Florentine scroll border."
Have fun!
It looks like a very heavy silk damask. Such fabric can be found, but is expensive. You could give it that soft 'old fabric' drape by washing the damask, if you dare. Contact places like James Hare, Pongees, Henry Bertrand, Beckford Silks here in the UK. Otherwise, take a look on Ebay or at this if you don't mind it being not real silk: http://www.mikhailpietranek.com/item.php?RecordID=444
I tink cutting and reapplying the motifs would be a very good thing to do to get the effect of that coat. It is very splendid.
What we found on ebay and although I realize that pics can be deceiving, the red looks way off. (scroll down the mini pics to see the actual swatch )
As this is a working theatrical troupe I need to be quite fussy on this reproduction, unlike most of my garb. She does awesome work for assorted movies and is a member in great standing on ebay. I am considering contacting her and asking a price if we supply the red material ourselves. (Unless someone here would like to tackle the challenge for some extra money. ;D I have seen we have some spectacular folks skills around here and would gladly help out a friend sooner than a casual business contact. Lady Gryphon has some skills as well, but has never attempted something like this.)

Someone who made a set for themselves, although they did not get too specific about where they located the items needs. But it does have some good shots of the garb on display at a convention.

Lighting can change a burgandy into a scarlet color in a snap and then back to the burgandy in another. Tricksie thing.
The bright side of the back never being seen is that you can use the same fabric that you find for the front. The scrolls look like they may be a pain to find, I would try to single out the pattern and print it out and then cut it out and applique it on to the coat. I cant remember if you embroder but to do the design in it I would hazard to stitch the pattern in there as well.
I will be making this very same coat for a client next year for his wedding in August at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival.
After much time spent on the Internet looking for trims that would work, I came to the conclusion that I would have to draft the Anctus Leaves pattern using various Quilt Stencil designs to get the curves, then trace it out on fabric, then using cloth backed iron on interfacing for backing, making my own trim. I would then have to stitch the trim onto the coat pieces using a small and tight zig zag, or a blanket stitch by hand so that there is no ravelling.
Of course, I have not been able to come across a how-to page as to how Costumer Designer, Penny Rose, made the Captain Teague coat. I will have plenty of the Aztec gold Dupioni Silk to use for the leafy designs.
Looking more closely a the fabric used for the Ancthus leaves, it appears to be a fabric backed light weight vinyl with small cording added at the edges. The vinyl appears to have a tarnished finish to it. Sewn carefully by machine, for the stitching is consistent. Small cording used for the leaf centers to get a more detailed look.(http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/307825_10150453120331280_568686279_10695922_1380536032_n.jpg)
This process will surely take time. Done right, this will look stunning!
To me the acanthus motifs looks more like lurex, but definitely with a gold cord around the edges (I'm tempted to say couching). The couching does account for the detailed leaf details the coat has. Very neat.
And look! Those buttons have a circle of animal figures! Lions? Horses? I cannot tell. But FUNKY detail.
My mind started wandering... And I suddenly remembered something I saw in Rome some years ago. In a Baroque church - almost certain it was Chiesa Nuova along Corso Vittorio Emanuele II - the church had taken out some very old wall hangings for a special annual celebration. There must have been 10-12 of them. Textile interested as I am, I had a closer look at them, and noticed they were all a bit different. Some were newer, some were older, judging from the preservation of the textiles. Some were even of opposite colours; red on gold, or gold on red. I guess that if one was damaged by wear and tear someone just copied it and replaced it.
Anyway... acanthus motifs was the most used motif in Baroque church art. So also here. These hangings were made of velvet (some also had damask) but look at the couching and the pattern. And the colours! It does remind quite a bit of the coat of your capt'n. :)

Yep, operafantomet! The couching and hand sewing is what makes the Teague coat Baroque in style.
For the peak of the Pirate age was at its height by the 1720's. Thus the Baroque influences of the coats and the style of clothing for women.

Late 17th and early 18th century Border designs...

Now we know what influenced Penny Rose when she designed the Captain Teague coat.

Plus the actual tailoring. ;D
There's very little tailoring as we think of it today in these coats. Occasionally some canvas or linen behind a heavy decoration to give a light weight silk some strength, but none of the layers of horsehair canvas and chest pieces that go into a modern suit. It's one of the ways they retain their fluidity.
Lady Gryphon,
Can't wait to see the finished project.

Actually they are dogs around the buttons. That link I provided from the person who made one, its author found them someplace on the net. But of course did not reveal where. :P
And again am I deeply and truly impressed. All of you have already in less than a day provided tons of pertinent info, as where I spent hours of online research could only provide a smattering of vague facts and ideas. You all are just too awesome. :)
Of course Costume Designers for films do not reveal where they find their gems.
I had emailed Oscar Winning Costume Designer, Colleen Atwood, a while back inquiring as to where did she find the fabric for the Red Queen's Skirt. She emailed back saying that she clould not divulge that information.
Of course, that is what I need to make the Red Queen the RED QUEEN! The rest I already have.
A bit of an update:
We have contracted the lovely Lady Kathleen to make a second coat for us as well as her other contact. Lady Gryphon is going to try her hand at making the vest. I officially started the project by ordering the very first piece, namely the skull ring that Teague wears.
(And a bit of trivia on that. That is his personal ring that he has worn since 1978. I found the history on that online.
QuoteIn 1978 the celebrated London goldsmiths David Courts and Bill Hackett were working on a small scale silver sculpture of a human skeleton. Using a real skull for reference they carved a perfect miniature replica which they then moulded. When the hollow wax skull was removed from its mould the inspiration for the ring was born. Further experimentation led to the creation of the original silver skull ring. At the same time an invitation arrived from Keith Richards to his birthday party in New York - so Bill and David decided that the new ring would make a fantastic present. From the moment he put it on his finger, the magic began and he has worn it ever since.
I have also ordered a prosthetic face to modify and help make me more realistic as well.

*Especially since I was told by another Rennie at this past weekends Mobile Ren Faire while in my current Pirate garb who proceeded to give me a bit of a Mooneye and said that I was far FAR too handsome to play Teague. But don't tell Lady Gryphon that. ;) *
But much more is needed to be done of course. So more input and advice is certainly welcome. Perhaps sources for the material for the vest and all the other materials, sashes and whatnot, jewelry, accessories and of course, weaponry. The sword may be interesting as I cannot get a clear look at it, but it appears to have a seashell basket hilt.
And I do say again, that we have a wonderful group of people around here overall. And when I inevitably get asked the usual of question of "where did you get that piece (or garb)?" I will certainly be proud to say "This in its entirety was created and designed by all the wonderful folks at renaissancefestival.com." (To which this past weekend we made up some simple pieces of paper and passed them out with the address as well ) ;D
Plus not to mention I am more excited as ever to be going to TRF this coming weekend to do some, errr..."Man Shopping." ;D
TRF is a rennie shopping paradise. You will likely find some accessories there.
Brocatelle fabric is a heavier pattern that looks similar to the patterned portion of the coat.
It would be possible to find an Icanthus pattern and cut it out for applique on one side only. This would leave the outher edge intact and possibly forstall some wear related fraying. By doing it that way, it could be applied to a plain ready made coat.

I think your ebay listing has done something similar with battenburg lace.
I googled pirate coat men red and got something from a site called Seduction Xtreme. LOL. But the coat actually looked pretty good if a little plain.

This is going to be fun to do. The fabric of the coat appears to be a Cotton Damask with a large pattern on it. More of a Cherry Red. I have seen some fabric on eBay that just might work. I will have todo more searching in the fabric stores. I will check out the Thrift stores as well for unused Tablecloths with a pattern such as this.
The tough part will be matching the buttons as close as possible to the film's original.

Might be a long shot... But what about contacting a kennel or dog club or similar, where "everything dog" would be in vogue? If they don't have it in stock, they might know where to get hold of similar buttons.
As for the actual fabric, I don't know how picky you are about the exact pattern and the fabric content, but there are some fairly good matches on eBay (not identical... but it has the overall feeling) - in all price ranges.
From cheaper cotton/polyester tablecloths:

I looked at the tablecloths as well.
Thanks for the links.
I am going to check Hancock Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, and Mill End Outlets here before heqading up to the cities again. The client lives in the Gulf region. So I must make sure the fabric is as close to 100% cotton as I can get for breathability. Once I find what I am looking for, I will buy at least 12 yards of it for the other Teague Coat I will be doing for another client next August.
It is a long shot, but if we can acquire the photo again, Windsor Button Shop in Mass. might have a match. I worked there a long time ago, and you wouldn't believe the buttons they have. Maybe a photo attached to an e-mail will at least get a response from them if they do not have them, then who might.
Just a thought. I almost forgot about them. walls and walls of buttons.
Ladys and Gents
I sent a photo this morning to Windsor Button asking if they knew anything about the button and if they had any the price. I will keep you all posted. I almost forgot this company and I had such a good time working for them.
I was at Hancock Fabrics this evening after a dinner to buy a few incendentials. I strolled over to the Decorator Fabrics and this jumped out at me...
While the pattern is smaller than on the original coat, this Cherry Red Jacquard said Captain Teague!!!! There was 7 1/8 yards on the roll, so I bought it all. I can use the leftovers for a bodice or something.
With the tarnished Gold Ancthus leaf pattern as trim, the buttons, this fabric will look stunning.
I think it's perfect. I'll let Rod know you found it and have him look when he gets home. I love the color.
Lady G
Ooooooh, me Likey! 8)
And on another note, I found a company to produce the coat buttons.....
Minimum order is a thousand, though...... >:(
Still waiting for a couple other companies to respond. And I know another online vendor who may be interested in getting some to resell in her store. Doubt she would want 800 of them though. ;)
I saw buttons very like them in Duttons for Buttons in York. Worth dropping them an email... They provided the originals, I think. Magical treasure chest, that place!
http://www.duttonsforbuttons.co.uk/html/tv_and_films.html
Thank you Kate, I sent them an e-mail and a photo this morning.
Thanks for the link Kate!
Perhaps the buttons for the Teague coat will be resasonable enough because I will need at least 3 dozen for the other coat I will be making a client for his wedding next August. To have a replica of that button would make his day, as well as Lady Gryphon's.
Good to have extras.
Beautiful fabric!
I contacted the other button company for a quote, still waiting for a reply. Hopefully between the two, we can get some authentics. ;D
Lord Dragon!!!
Please let your dear Lady know that I just sent off a swatch of the fabric for you to drool over.
There are times when something specific cannot be found and somethong like this jumps out and says, "BUY ME"!! This fabric was one of those times.
You tease. ;D
Just told her. :)
And That is pretty much how I do what little shopping I do myself. Items have to jump out or be quite correct for me and whatever I am working on. Definitely a +100000 on my fabric vote, that will knock some eyeballs out. ;D
*Update*
Just got the pattern swatch for the coat in the mail when we arrived home from TRF....BEE-YOO-TEFULL! ;D
Ordered a custom pair of boots from TRF while we were there, thanks to a couple disreputable ruffians we met from here IRL while attending. 8)
Picked up a low dollar Cutlass while at TRF so it doesn't hurt so bad when I modify and fabricate it to look like Teagues. Seems no one makes any sort of reproduction of it.
Got an email back from the one company who said they could produce the buttons, but while I do not know euro currency, it still seems a bit high for an order of a thousand.
QuoteThe price for this button (23 mm, antique silver) is 1,60 Euro/each + tools cost 1 x 295,00 Euro.
Delivery time is appr. 6 weeks.
free home delivery
Found Jack's "Mum" (the shrunken head from POTC 3 ) from the same company contracted to make them for the POTC movies.
1.6 euro is about 2.13 usd.
$2 to $2.50 US for a Specialty Button like that is not that bad a price. But I do not need 1,000 of them.
3 dozen for the Teague coat should suffice.
Yes, that is the problem indeed. I figure two coats here, maybe a couple hundred for some other vendors I know and that would be all I could distribute out. I sent out some more inquiries today to some other manufacturers. Tis becoming quite the quest indeed, but a way shall be found. ;D I just cannot cover $2500 in buttons alone. ;)
Any Pattern suggestions for the breaches? These have buttons on the bottom where they go into the boot. I love the look, Any ideas where to start looking for a patter?
Thanks
How about the Simplicity Jack Sparrow pattern! i have made the shirt twice already.
http://www.simplicity.com/p-2198-men-costumes.aspx (http://www.simplicity.com/p-2198-men-costumes.aspx) The Breeches pattern is not that difficult and the vest as well.
Great pattern. :)
I been kinda leaning towards this design of them (about halfway down their page, just above the white shirt )

Just got another reply on the buttons. Overseas factory says they can reproduce them, 500 minimum, for around 1.50- 1.75 each. Am going to email a few times first to make sure they are reputable, I found them on Alibaba.com and have never used that before.
I am so glad that you liked the fabric I bought for your coat, Lord Dragon. It was the correct color that is going to stand out from all the other Pirate coats you will see at a festival. I am stoked to get this going and ready to work on while I am on my trip to Nevada come the end of January for 2 weeks. That will be the hand sewing of the gold cording around the leaf pattern.
Yes indeed. Verrah VERRAH happy with the fabric choice. ;D
And I just went ahead and placed an order for the buttons. 23mm, 7-10 days to process them and of course, overseas shipping time. I got them for a dollar apiece. ;D
Now to cross my fingers they are good quality. ;)
Can't wait to see the buttons!

They have been great so far, sending me production notes and pics. Final casting is done and ready for the plating shop.

Are the buttons Silver or Gold? I cannot tell. I hope they are a tarnished gold when all is said and done. Silver buttons are going to clash noticibly.
I think he asked for an Antique Silver, nothing shiny. But I'll let him tell you for sure. But we have them coming that is a positive thing.
Yes they are supposed to be antique silver, per the pic I sent.
Hope that will work, as this pic is supposed to be the original buttons used. If not, maybe I can get them to plate in another color.
We had a couple of those for a job recently. Very nice they are too.

Antigue Silver might work. It all depends how close you want the Teague Coat to look to the Original.
I emailed them that pic and asked what they thought and if they thought gold was better to do those and I will pay extra if needed.
Let mke know too because I will need 3 and 1/2 dozen of those buttons for the Teague Coat I will be doing for an August 2012 wedding.
Yep, I know you need them for another coat and want you verrah happy with them as well. ;D
Not to mention I will be wanting to work out a deal with a couple Pirate stuff vendors so I do not get stuck with the whole lot. ;)
Nice buttons! I am sure you will have no problem peddling what you don't use.
Well, they don't do gold, at least not antiqued, it is shiny. So I ordered them in antique brass instead.
This is their color card.

I think that sounds better anyway, the originals don't look like shiny gold at all. Looking forward to see the final result!

Gorgeous!!!
Buttons are in. And they look awesome. I tried as hard as I could to bend one with my fingers and it laughed at me. The back yoke looks just as sturdy. They LOOK small, but I matched them up to the Pirate coat I have already and it is just a teeny bit smaller than those. Lady Kathleen, I will get my coats worth and your other request of buttons to you as soon as we get a break in the Holiday chaos to do so.
Anyone else, let me know as I have a lot of extras and I am not greedy. A dollar apiece. 8)
So cool! I cannot wait. My other client will be stoked to have buttons for his Teague coat as you are for yours.
You know, Lord Dragon, in some circles, being a "button man" is a very bad thing!

It might be a VERY Curious Case, indeed!

;D
Lady Kathleen
A nice portion of buttons are on their way to you this day. I wonted to get them sent before I forgot. Anyway I sent a few more than requested, you will be the KEEPER OF THE SPARES! LOL. I'll hang on to some as well. Did you get the measurements I sent and did I take them correctly?
Thanks again
Lady Gryphon...
THANK YOU and YES!!!
The Buttons arrived on Christmas Eve. Theyn will work nicely! Thank you so much!!
Glad you like them. :D
( I thought they were pretty darn kewl myself. ;D )
Another update:
Spoke with a wonderful lady hatter at the LARF this season and though she is quite busy with orders, she took precise measurements and after I emailed her some pics of Teague's hat, she said she would be able to replicate it and if at all possible have it ready by the end of February.
Emailed the boot maker I spoke with at TRF also this season and he had said probably I would have them by Christmas. To which I had said no RUSH on them, but that would be just fine. I messaged just to touch base on the progress and he emailed back to say he was not happy with the current leather he had on hand so he ordered some new that was more to his liking for the quality needed. Which I appreciate very deeply and a shameless plug goes out to Doug at renboots.com ;D I should be receiving these in a couple weeks or so.
Best news so far as to finding exact replica items....I have been running myself ragged to find the a sword even close to the one Teague wears. Nothing nothing nothing even similar. Explored the idea of buying a cheap one (which I did ) and modifying it, but even with my somewhat considerable modifying skills, I felt I would not be able to do it justice. So on a whim I went to a random link posted here in the arms section and messaged the Master Swordmaker. He responded quickly and we exchanged many emails to which to my utter delight he has seen the Teague sword with his own eyes and assured me he can definitely reproduce both sword and scabbard to my specifications! That is now ordered. ;D
We cheated a bit on the shirt, Lady Gryphon ordered me a base poet shirt for Christmas and she will be adding to it as per lace and things.
Still seeking proper material for the waistcoat and assorted pictures make it hard to tell the exact color on it. Big thanks to C Dragonwerks for sending me a link to a massive pic, it really really helps in seeing more detail.
http://www.filmz.ru/photos/75174/full/ (http://www.filmz.ru/photos/75174/full/)
She is also working on the Baldric and Belt, however finding exact buckles is also proving to be a quest. The belt looks as if it is simply cut flat steel, so I may be able to cut one myself with a dremel and have it powdercoated. The Baldric buckle....so far the only custom made quote I have is a hundred, which considering all the other piece costs, I just cant justify.
Jewelry.....I have the skull ring, still looking for the others. Although he changes jewelry depending on the pics you look at. Would love to get something similar to the rings in that big pic above. I don't think the hair accessories will be nearly as difficult as most things.
We found some darn near exact material for the sash...once it has been beaten and weathered of course.
Any and all input is more than welcome as always ( including wiseazz Wizards. ) ;D
Currently the plan for the unveiling is set for the Pensacola Ren Fair in early March. 8)

Lad and lasses, it seems that me ears are burning....
The new pictures are excellant! What a great reference!
*Update*
The new boots are here!!!!
*Pirate Jig in them*
Pics soon, I have to leave for work. *must resist temptation to wear them to work, musssst resissst.....* 8)
They are just too kewl. Teague wears what looks like suede, but the maker told me that pure suede would tend to be too flimsy and they would try to fall down too easily. So we turned a set of stiffer leathers inside out. They were delayed because the maker wanted to wait until a better grade of leather came in and due to his sage advice, they are perfect. A big thanks and a shoutout to Doug Dealy from renboots.com. Look him up at TRF if ya in the neighborhood. ;D
And on another note, anyone care to take a shot at what material, pattern, and style his waistcoat is made from? We are having some difficulty with it. And having all the movie set shot lighting making it 3 different colors isn't helping either, lol. She found an awesome replacement if needed, but of course trying to get as close as possible.
Another update:
Got the boots.
Pants (or slops ) are in process
Coat....eagerly awaited ;D
Waistcoat in process. I think I found the closest I can get here. You have to click the far right button under the swatch pic for the red/black design.
http://www.nyfashioncenterfabrics.com/barroque-metallic-brocade.html (http://www.nyfashioncenterfabrics.com/barroque-metallic-brocade.html)
Hat in process
Sword in process (again eagerly awaiting, I just love pointy things. And my first full staged combat ready blade...*Happydance * )
Got the shirt. Quest ongoing to find proper lace for the cuffs so Milady can attach some.
Got the sash. Just needs weathered.
Buckles....are being a pain to find at all. Perhaps I can cut the belt buckle out of flat steel with a dremel and paint or powdercoat it, but the Baldric one....grrrr.... C Dragonwerks is more than willing to construct the leather but not till I have some buckles to make them correctly.
Need to start looking for all the jewelry. Rings, neckchains, bracelets and hair danglies. Only have the skull ring so far.
Help.....? ;D
You are going to be one sharp looking Captain Teague, LD! I am honored to be making your coat. The Buttons are SUPERB!!!
*SIGH*
Setback. Major one...
The vendor from the LARF that I commissioned to make the Teague Hat has had to postpone indefinitely. With good reason, they moved into a new home and it had hidden mold which made her and her husband sick, so they have to move again. Still no less frustrating since I commissioned this at the end of last November. And my first dress rehearsal/appearance is scheduled for the last week of Feb.
Depressed is not the word. The hat is one of the key points.
So....can anyone recommend some reliable, skillful, without losing an arm and a leg, hatters?
Don't know of any other hat makers, except Captain Jack Hats. One of my clients whom I made a Barbossa coat for, ordered his Captain Barbossa Hat from them and it ws beautiful. How fast they could make your hat, I do not know. Give them a call or email as to how fast they can make you a Customized Captain Teague hat. Let them know your circumstances.
http://www.captjackspiratehats.com/apps/photos/ (http://www.captjackspiratehats.com/apps/photos/)
But as far as your coat, I have that cut out and ready to get the designs put on before I head out to Reno for 2 weeks. I will have to do some tucks here and there of the designs to make them fit better. They will hardly show. The hand sewing of the cording is what will take the longest to do to make it look as it should. I am holding up my end.
This a spitball in the dark, but have you talked to the people at excaliber leather (I know they work with Renboots). I know they have done custom pirate hats for people before. They might be able to help you out. Like I said shot in the dark.

Milady K, I have ZERO doubts in you, and tis that which keeps me going, truly. That coat for certain will be the most beautiful piece of all. ;D
Seems Milady Gryphon has been hard at work while her Lord has slumbered and one of our members the wonderful Ms. C Dragonwerks has volunteered to take on the hat issue. So once again, all is well with the realm. ;D
As a side note, Captain Jack was contacted by myself yesterday and he was more than willing to do the hat. However, he has been snowed in wherever he lives and has been without power for several days and he is backed up on orders. It would have been around 8 weeks or more to get it done. Anyone who knows him may want to drop him an email and wish him well in getting his realm restored. :)

One of the cuffs to your coat, Lord Dragon.
I hope to see the final product in April... There will be so many...so well-garbed... and a few muggles. :o
SQUEE!!!!
Hey, who's doin all the squeein round here..... ???
My first words were WOW. and I think that covers it. Magnificent Lady Kathleen. You are awesome.
Pardon Lady K... but did I miss how the edges of the gold are finished?
Amy, if I recall correctly, she said that she would be hand-sewing gold cording for the edges.
(http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/313577_10150456077281280_568686279_10706518_1419512243_n.jpg) and (http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/313577_10150456077286280_568686279_10706519_311444304_n.jpg)
All the cording is going to go around the edges of the Silk. I am going to make sure I catch well the silk and cording together to save time in not having to sew the design down seperately. Which is why I will have pins all over the place. The cording is what gives the design its detail.
The hand sewing will be a test of my patience. Photos when I get back home.
Also, I am doing my very best to keep in the spirit of the original design. I do not think I have seen a comporable coat by another vendor as the one I am doing.
There truly is no other coat like this one. Well, save for your second commission anyway. ;D My excitement and happiness is by no means feigned. I am in deep wonderment and when I showed the leader of the "Krewe" I am joining the sleeve pic, he was in a word or two, completely thunderstruck. ;D
I have been all over the net and looked at all other ( very few around, really. And only found one selling their version of the outfit ) Teagues and nothing comes close to even warrant a comparison, IMO. So again I am in deepest awe and utmost respect for your epic skills, Milady *Sweeping Bow*
I am curious though, is the other coat to be made for a Teague or he just wants the coat. If he was to be a Teague also, it would be very fun to cross paths at some time ( and get a Hades load of pics, lol ) ;D
Thanks for the tech tip. I was just curious if you thought you might have to turn it under even with the couched on cord. Can't wait!
Update:
The hat is donnnnnnnne! *Happydance*
I will be picking it up (and yes, by cracky, wearing it, don't care what it looks like with my current garb ) at Sherwood this weekend at the meetup. ;D ;D ;D

Major MAJOR huggz, shameless plugs and shoutout to C Dragonworks from this board. She stepped up when my supposed "professional" merchant canceled the order on me and only a couple weeks to go for my NEEDED deadline. She is indeed an awesome craftsperson and her and hubby are far more than just casual friends, they are great friends for helping out. Thanks just does not cover it. * I see Rum in your future, ohhhmmmm...... * ;D
And she has some other incredible items for sale too. Definitely a recommended vendor AND friend. ;D

I am back from my 2 week trip to Reno.
I have the hand sewing part of the coat done. Using metallic Embroidery Floss had its kinks in places.Bbut overall, i am very happy with the results. Here are the cuffs. imagine the rest of the coat. More Photos in the coming days.

The ends of thr detail are sewn down, clipped as close as I could get, then used Fray Check to the ends. Dries clear and prevents fraying. I do apologize for the kinks in the Embroidery floss. Not the easiest floss to work with.
more photos as I progress.
Now let's hear those SQUEEEES real loud!!!

SKKKKKKKK-WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know all about the gold thread. Personally I HATE the stuff, but sometimes you have to bite the bullet ( or in this case the cutlass) and work with it.
Absolutely Awesome, lady Kathleen. I bow to your knowledge and expertise.
Its good to see a dark lord learn to squee properly!
Lady Kathleen that is amazing!!!!! Makes my attempt at a pirate coat seem so feeble!! I can't wait to see the final product!
Just a thought. If the trim is synthetic you can always melt the ends with a lighter. I've done that in a pinch and it won't ravel.
But I know you know best and it will be awesome no matter how you do it. I can't wait.
Oh An
SKEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
Fantastic work. So glad you are doing it and not I!! Used that metalic floos ONCE.. I labor of love for my own daughter but never again. That is one very spoiled Dark Lord!
Also one very in awe and grateful Dark Lord. ;)

Great work m'lady :)
Thank you everyone! This wasa pleasure to do, honestly.
The Coat will be sent 2nd Day Air UPS. Look for the Sleep Number Pillow Box.

I am going to have my Bro call you in the morning about his order. Will be from a 251 area code, Milady. ;D
Your coat has been sent as requested via UPS. Be sure to check your PM Inbox.
THANK YOU again so much for this opportunity to make this coat for you.
No, thank you for such awesome work. ;D I will be very proud to wear it and will very much be sure to send interested parties your direction.
Now I get to be excited about my Bro's coat too. ;D
And now, another sneak peek....sans coat and some other secret transformational items....>:)

How cool was that???
Arik looks fantastic and I am thrilled to be doing his new Captain Jack Sparrow coat. Nor was he kidding that he nails the character down so well. Your hat is superb! He was a pleasure to talk with. Just emailed him a lengthy one a few moments ago.
Get a room, you two! ;D
Seriously though, the coat looks so much like the real deal, and both PotC men in the video looks spot on. I'm so looking forward to pictures of the full ensemble!
Some scary people, these pirates....
Captain Edward makes he debut with Captain Jack Sparrow this weekend at the Pensacola Ren Faire. I as Lady Rachael Genevieve Louise Worthington-Cole AKA Black Rose Rachael, will also present to take numerous photographs of all the events. I can not imagine the mayhem these two will commit when they are together, rehearsal in my kitchen keeps me laughing. It's like these two guys of twin sons of different mothers, it scary how they think alike.
Anyway, stay posted.
Also Keep June 9 & 10 open, The Pensacola First annual Pirate Fest Featuring The Black Hearted Rogues and the Black Hearted Wenches, will take place. I'll or the Captain will post the website shortly. We would love to see you all there.

Scientists were baffled today when the United States Geological Society recorded a quake with a scale of an astonishing 12.0, the highest ever recorded and a full two points above the standard of 10. The bafflement came in when they discovered that its epicenter was located near Mobile Alabama which is very rarely known for such occurrences.
Even more bafflement was expressed by local Geologists. When interviewed they explained that their local readings were very strange and off the charts as well. One was quoted to say " I am having difficulty explaining these readings. It is almost as if someone shrunk Godzilla, placed him inside a home and...
taught him to SQUEE."

Why do I picture Lord dragon seeing the box, running inside like a kid at christmas, knocking everything a winding. Then proceeding to knock everything off the counter or table so that he can rip into the box. Once out he imediatly puts it on and starts dancing and twirling. Then refusing to take it off for about an hour becuse he is bouncing so much he is so happy to have it. Then proceeds to hang it up so he can see it because he can't wait to wear it this weekend. ::)
I have it on good authority that he's been sleeping in it, and won't take a shower for fear it will get wet. Lady Gryphon has been reduced to walking the house with her nose pinched shut.... ;D ::)

Now that is absolutely not true. I have however bought the coat flowers.....and a new car.
I have been reduced to an "Also Ran" But you know, it make me happy to see him so excited. The Dog doesn't know what to do and thinks we are both nuts, and I was at the shop this morning getting my hair done and all they talked about was doing the extensions and Dragon's hair tonight.
If you all will look very carefully, you find me in the background somewhere, or maybe I'll just hold the camera. This is going to be SO MUCH FUN.

Moi??!??!?? ;D No I just pictured what the PP did when he got a new 'toy'. Especially when it came to new garb. The look on his face when I caught his spinning like a little girl in his Pink coat the first time he wore it. And don't deny it you did the same DARN thing!

3 hours in the salon chair tonight. Some of the beadery would not cooperate, so back again for around another hour again tomorrow.
Gonna be EPIC. ;D
I am sure after the weekend, Milady Gryphon can email you some website quality pics, lady Kathleen. :)
Lady Kathleen
I'd feel honored you'd like to use my photo's on your website. Feel free to use anything I shoot, anytime you want.
I'll try to get a good shot of each person wearing one of your creations at Scarby the weekend I am there.
More to come, and I got photo's of the transformation in progress, it was fun to watch
After this weekend, Lord Dragon, you'll have a new Profile Photo where the current one is??????
We all will be on pins and needles to see how you will look.
Tough call. A Lord Dragon is not a Teague, hmmmm....may have to see if I can edit usernames, hmm....
But I am sure if nothing else, Milady will certainly post a gallery of sorts in here. I did promise you all first look (in pics ) and that shall surely be. 8)
*Edit* I guess you can change a username, I just looked. ;D
Username could say, Cap'n Teague a.k.a Lord Dragon ????
Lousy Day for photography, Deluge not just rain. I managed to get a couple, but I'll strive for better tomorrow.
So everyone, here is what the final porduct looked like. Again I'll get one by himself tomorrow when it's not pouring.

We gotta move these drunken sailors
We gotta move these crates of TEA
I shoulda' learned to play the guitar
I shoulda' learned to load them guns
Look at that trollop, she got it stickin' out the porthole
Man we could have some fun
And he's up there, what's that ? Caribbean noises ?
Bangin' on the bongos like a chimpanzee
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Get your booty for nothin' and your wenches for free
We gotta install hotbread ovens
Custom scullery deliveries
We gotta move these drunken sailors
We gotta move these crates of TEA...
Now that ain't workin' that's the way you do it
You play the guitar on the OPEN SEA
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Booty for nothin' get your wenches for free
Booty for nothin' get wenches for free
( I want my....I want my....I want my Booty for free.... )

Captain Teague, a.k.a Lord Dragon, you and Arik look SUPER!!!!!
Awww, thanks. :)
I think that one was taken around 3 pm, after being in a constant rain since 9 AM.... :P
Supposed to be great Sunday, hopefully even better pics. :)
Fab! Hurrah for the Pirate King!
When I sally forth to seek my prey
I help myself in a royal way.
I sink a few more ships, it's true,
Than a well-bred monarch ought to do;
But many a king on a first-class throne,
If he wants to call his crown his own,
Must manage somehow to get through
More dirty work than ever I do,
(Gilbert and Sullivan)

Lousy Day for photography, Deluge not just rain. I managed to get a couple, but I'll strive for better tomorrow.
So everyone, here is what the final porduct looked like. Again I'll get one by himself tomorrow when it's not pouring.

Since I had to explain where this came from, perhaps you'd all like to see it.
That is a suitably splendid rendition!
Way too cute!!! One of Gilbert and Sullivan's best Operettas.
