Title: Plans for 2012
Post by: Merlin the Elder on January 03, 2012, 12:33:53 AM
I'm one of those people who tends to live by a schedule, blocking out time to do things. I have to in my work, and it has carried over into the rest of my life. I'm getting my faire schedule put together for the year, and this is what it's looking like so far:
Sherwood Forest
Scarborough
Carolina Ren Fest / RenDezvous
Also got to try to sneak in a trip to OkRF and Spirit of Magic...may have to do them the same weekend

What are everyone's plans? This is assuming, of course, that we don't suffer another rapture or whatever...

Opening Weekend at Sherwood

All 8 weekends at Scarborough Faire

Ky Ren Faire weekend of June 30-July 1

Carolina Ren Faire Rendezvous

TRF Opening weekend, Halloween and Highland Fling weekends. Maybe more not sure.

Opening of Sherwood then we'll see about Scarby and TRF. I have to present at ASM in San Fransisco in June and most of my paycheck is going into savings for that...

Typical plans for us, Sonora, Valhalla, Fair Oaks, Folsom, maybe, but doubtful, a trip to NorCal.

Feb 18 & 19 at Sherwood
NTIF
All of Scarby
Celtic Fling in June on the PARF grounds
Opening, and possibly closing at TRF
Pirate Days of Texas

It's possible that a few others will sneak in here and there, but as it stands now, TX Scottish Fest is out for me since it's during Scarby this year, Norman is still up in the air, and honestly will depend on whether or not The Rogues will be there. Muskogee is a no-go for me since it's during Scarby as well.

I remember back in the mid- to late-90's that Scarby overlapped the TX Scottish Festival, and then Scarby moved their schedule up one week, so they ended on Memorial Day Monday --- while the Scottish Festival remained the first weekend of June.

Now the TX Scottish Festival has moved their dates to be right in the middle of Scarby's run --- on the first weekend of May.  I don't know how many performers and vendors this will inconvenience, but I guess a number of patrons will be irked.

I'm planning to be at Sherwood Forest Faire for Opening Weekend, and the weekend that Rani & Scally will be there for Scally's Birthday.

Don't know about TRF at the end of the year, since I may be out of work after September (cut backs from two shifts of support to one shift in the Labs where I work are scheduled).

Take Care,
David Baldock

So far, the faires I'm planning on visiting are the ones I can day-trip to:

Connecticut Renaissance Faire (Robin Hood Springtime Festival)
Midsummer Fantasy Renaissance Faire (CT)
New Jersey Renaissance Faire
New York Renaissance Faire
Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire

I have a couple others that I very much want to attend but that will depend on finances since they are way out of day-trip range. I am keeping my fingers crossed and saving my pennies!

Sherwood hoping for three weekends,  FourWinds at least one weekend, Scarborough all weekends,  TRF hoping for three weekends.

Then out of state maybe great Lakes, or Pittsburgh depending on many things.

For the Scottish fest thinking that will be in the evening after Scarby or do Friday.

The Arkansas Scottish Festival also occurs during Scarby's run, in mid-April. This will be their 33rd year. I've never been, although Nimue has, I believe.  I'd rather do Scarborough myself.

Right now the husband and I will be at the following :

Opening weekend of SWFF ( And any other weekend he has off from work )
We're gonna try for opening weekend at TRF, and at least one more during it's run.
And a real iffy "maybe" on any Scarby weekend.

April 23rd is our one year wedding anniversary, so we're trying to plan our faires around our 2 week vacation back to my home state of NC. I know, the RF meetup is there this year, and if the Wayne County airshow isn't going to happen this year before our date then we will do Carolina for our celebration.

Our previous plans to visit a new faire this year are on hold as we're planning on puppies this summer. But my 15-year-old daughter and I will be getting our first season passes this year for our home faire of Bristol. We're hoping to go at least one day each weekend to participate in RenQuest! We also stocked up on day tickets for the hubby, so we can go as a family a few times as well. We'll just be playing it by ear to see if we can squeak in a weekend visit to another Faire later in the Fall.

Rowan, Dubuque, IA is about an hour or so north of the Quad Cities.  Davenport, IA is one of the Quad Cities.  Do you mean to say the Highland Games & Celtic Festival is in Davenport, not Dubuque?  I'd be thrilled if it was in Dubuque, but it's never been held there, so could you please check?  Because if it is, I'd love to go!

June:  School Event (Renaissance Education)
July:  Old Ft. MacArthur Days (Timeline Event)

Still hammering out dates, but so far it's shaping up like this:

Virginia -May 12 & 13
GLMF - entire run
Pittsburgh - September
ORF - October

MAYBE - Michigan Labor Day Weekend, and/or Carolina for Rendezvous.

I'm also looking at into Sterling or Bristol, but there's quite a bit of belt tightening to be done this year so that may only be wishful thinking on my part.

We we3re hoping to make i9t to Sherwood for Spring Break this year, since Scally's birthday will be one of those weekends, but it doesn't look like that will happen.  So, at the moment the schedule is looking like this:

Norman Medieval Festival - March 30 - April 1
Scarby - 2nd weekend (for Merlin and Nim's celebration)
Spirit of Magic - May 5th and 6th  (unless Merlin and Nim are in for that weekend, and then I'll be matching our schedule to theirs, if they don't mind)
OKRF (Castleton, Castle at Muskogee) - At least one weekend in May, if not more
TRF - AHE, hopefully

It actually looks like a lot more than it seems, when laid out like that!  Might be something to this scheduling thing, after all!  ;)  :D

Early May could be problematic for us. I'll have to check to see when graduation is. I really want to do SoM this year and help Rabbi get his dream underway.  Technically, we could day-trip OkRF if we had to. With all the other stuff happening, I can't nail May down yet.

No worries!  If you are there then we will be only too pleased to wander the lanes with you, and if not, then perhaps we will see you at OKRF later in the month. If you two are able to make then Scally and I will be there!

In any case we will see you at Scarby in April...  ;)

FOR SURE:
June/July
A trip or two to Chippewa Falls
A trip of two to Glenwood City (if they actually open, which would be awesome because it's 15 minutes from home)

August-September
Every day of MNRF I'll be running Foaming Stein again and my barbarian hawker will be back on a bench in front of it where he belongs.

HOPEFULLY (all dependent on budget):
Bristol- one weekend in July
TRF- 2 weekends in November

Well, kind of a bust this year. We hit Sonora. Amara's dance recital had its one dress rehearsal on the big stage the first weekend of Valhalla, and the actual recital the second. Fair Oaks is temporarily (we hope) siteless and canceled. And I had an accident at work 4 days before folsom, and wasn't really up to going.

As the year approaches its end, I have but one certain trip left, not to a faire per se, but a feast on the grounds of faire, and one possible.

We made all of our planned schedule this year, save one.

Sherwood Forest: We made opening weekend, and brought a friend for his second visit to a faire ever, and got two of his "faire virgin" nieces from San Antonio to come attend for their first.

Scarborough: We made three weekends. Opening, because that's just got to be; 2nd weekend, when we had our 40th wedding anniversary Vow RenNewal ceremony, complete with Tartanic playing for the reception; and 8th weekend to attend the 25th wedding anniversary Vow RenNewal ceremony of our dear friends Lady Kett and Sidekick.

Castleton–Oklahoma Ren Festival: Made one weekend there.

RenDezvous at Carolina Ren Fest: Just got back! Great time, great company!

We'll be returning to Castleton for the Boare's Heade Feaste on Nov 17th. I am due to be inducted that trip into the Knights of Castleton.

We are also HOPING to attend the Renaissance and Fantasy Faire of the Ozarks on Nov 10th or 11th.
