So who is getting ready for Scarby?? I going just to pick up a few things then i get to start sewing my new garb!! ;D
I've been beading since last August. Who knows if I'll be ready in time.
I know I won't be ready, and I've been working on some of the plans since last May. Planning other faires as well, and trying to keep caught up with my 9-to-5 (actually, 5-to-1). Que sera, sera... I'm just going to have a good time with me friends and let the cow chips fall where they may.
I just got my FOF passes today. Cannot wait for opening day.

Don't make me stop this carriage, young lady!
I am already starting to plan my purchases. New skirt, fringed leather bag (if I can find exactly what I want), probably something from Grichels & my normal piece from the chain maille guy. Nothing really big this year so far. If the harpist Sarah Mullen has her new CD available I'll get one of those as well. I'm sure the renlets will pick our pockets numerous times!
Got my reservations at Super8 for Friday & Saturday nights of opening weekend... We'll be in a non-smoking room on the first floor. They originally had the accessible rooms priced DOUBLE the rate of non-accessible rooms. A quick email to Wyndham (who licenses Super 8) took care of that.
Thanks for the reminder. Just made my reservations for opening and closing weekends. Now we just have to narrow down our other weekends.
2 more planned and maybe a 3rd if my commissions are good.
Does anyone know if they are going to do the Scotch Tastings again this year?

According to what I've heard its still in the planning stages. It didn't sell too well last year, but I believe that was a lack of advertisement.
I attended it last year and there was 8 people or more in our group. I enjoyed it. Good Scotch and interesting information.
Last year it was kind of a last minute addition, if memory serves. That may have hurt it.
I think you're right, Bryan. Was it last year that they were still putting up shelves at the bar in Rose & Crown while we were sitting there eating? ...or was that Memorial Day Weekend of 2010?
SOOO looking forward to Scarby this year.... Should I mention it's 75 days, 16 hours, 8 minutes, 30 seconds away?
Merlin you're not excited about Scarby, are you? I really can't tell. ;D
Bryan, I live an exciting life ... zzzzzzzzzzzzz ... I very much look forward to visiting Texas each year for Scarborough! ...even more so now, with all the friends I've made here on the forum. It's put a whole new spin on things the past couple of years.
Maybe I'll get a chance to meet you & yours this season.
FOF passes in hand.... yup. I'm ready.
Merlin: if your not from around here how did you know about Scarby?? and why did you start coming??

I am from around here
We'll be at Scarby first 2 weekends...also at Sherwood opening weekend... Look for a scary old man with long whiskers, Bryan.
I think she was talking to me, son...
BagPipeBabe, we were introduced to Scarby by my best friend, who I've known since I was 6, and who lived in DFW area in the late 80s. We visited, and enjoyed, but at the time weren't financially able to come down regularly. Old age has a few benefits, somehow. We're financially stable at the moment (you know how that can change these days). As a result, we come down as often as we can. It's about 5 hours each way. We've been FoF for many years.
O sorry. I was talking to Merlin the Elder.
You have to speak up when talking to my dad.... he's 1400 years old
Just as soon as they get a Patrons campgrounds. (not holding breath).

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW!! ;D
Just tell that boy of mine to shut up, BagPipe Babe. I get all this abuse from a kid that runs around in a plaid skirt...reminds me of my days in a Catholic school. At least the girls there didn't have near as much hair on their legs...
That's false...I have no hair on my legs. I'm completely hairless like one of those cats. And the girls you chased in Catholic school did have hair on their legs because it was 2000BC and the razor hadn't been invented yet. (sorry mom)
ROFLMAO!!
I didn't give you much, son, but at least you have a sense of humour!
Awwwww...that's not true. You taught me how to do crop circles so people would think that aliens had landed.
And remember that time you dressed up in that furry gorilla costume and I filmed you walking through the woods and we sent it to the papers and told them we saw Bigfoot?
Good times!
...it brings tears to my eyes........or, maybe that was the dog. I really need to get some different food for them!
Wow.... Okay ladies your both pretty.
He started it.... ;D ::) :P
By both...she means me
;D

I am honoured...I think...
I had a dream last night about the fair. I was kind of sad cause it was raining and there were only like 3 or 4 of us there but we were having a good time any way.
Rain at faire is spelled "reign," and that's what VIII does at Scarby, so all is well.

Sounds more like a memory of the 2004 season.
I remember the last season that the Corsairs were there for the entire run it seemed like it rained every day. Was that 2004?
Yes it seem like each memeber of cast had there own personal patron. Some days you would look down the lane and not see a single person not in garb. Kinda nice in one way but really hard on the faire and vendors.

Hard on the cast as well, believe me! When it gets to the point that people cringe as you approach them because they've had so many people stopping them to do bits and play with them, you get a little discouraged. But then you just go jump in a puddle and call the patrons who are huddling under cover cowards for not coming out into the rain, and it is all good. *grin*
The wet years are really the hardest on cast members who only have one pair of boots and one costume, because getting stuff clean and dry for the next day can be close to impossible. I know that I, personally, HATE putting my feet into wet boots. (Thus the old, "use a triple-layer of plastic bags as boot liners" trick.)
Yea that was the season that really made me love me Son of Sandar boots with the good water proofing I give them I never had wet feet and with the wood insterts at night they keep their shape perfect. One thing I did find out closing weekend of TRF is that my new square toes are not totally water proof given enough water the front seam will get damp.
I've hear the same thing for other cast member lys I do understand how hard it must have been on cast during days like that let alone an entire season. I hope we don't have anymore like that.
Thanks for reminding me Lys.
Old dry cleaning bags make great boot liners for extremely wet days.
I have been looking at getting a pair of son of sandlar boots for years now. I think I finely made up my mind to get them.
I've had my Sandler low buckles for 8 years. They are my favorite footware Ren or mundane, with my pair of renboots a close second.
Sandlar and renboots......tried both, wear both and likely won't wear anything else. ;D
I came close to picking up a pair of Sandlars this past weekend. I had already gone over-budget for the weekend. Maybe opening weekend of Scarby I'll succumb.
Someday...someday...when I'm not a broke college student.... :D
It's no better when you're a broke (state) college employee, Elo :-\
I bought a pair this weekend at Sherwood. They are GREAT BOOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) I have looked at others and really liked how the Sandlars felt, and how they are made. The buttons, screw in so replacement is very easy. They fit like a glove from the beginning. You won`t go wrong with owning a pair. I am Very Happy with my Sandlars...................Huzzah
Only one adjustment for the Sandlars. And the merchant will agree, we discussed it this past weekend. Use Loctite on the button screws, they do tend to come loose. I use the blue kind so if a change in button design is desired later they will be easier to remove.
I wouldn't have thought of that until I lost a button. Loctite's some great stuff!
I have not lost one so far. But I make a point to snug them every time I put them on myself. Milady has lost a couple (before loctite )
And they are ten bucks apiece to replace. Loctite is around 3 bucks and does several pairs ;)

You
are talking about boo
ts, aren't you?
Depends on just what you have falling off, Mate. Sometimes duct tape just doesn't cut it. ;)
My garb is starting to come together!! It is going to be so beautiful!!!
Be sure to make yourself known to us, BagPipeBabe, so that we can see just how beautiful you are!
With all the praise of the Sandlars I've seen, I may just have to bite the bullet and get a pair—of boots—opening weekend of Scarby.
I'll put the Locktite in the Roadie box just encase.
Be sure to bring the red since the blue won't hold in hot water. ;D
Are you implying that we're all going to be in hot water after that weekend??
...just saying.... ;)
I'm always in hot water...of one sort or another! :)
When you get to be several centuries old, you get used to being in hot water....
http://www.srfestival.com/daily-schedule/fun/daily-schedule.html
The entertainment schedule looks like it is correct for 2012. The German Twins are on there; though I thought they would not be.
I think that's still 2011... the dates for Doctor Kaboom are mid-week, if they are this year!
The closer I look, the more I think that you're right Merlin.
We just a few days ago got word from Scarby regarding artists for us to pick our music, so my guess is they're just now getting the schedule worked out.
so you all have your garb ready for opening weekend....right?
hehheh....hahaha! BWAHAAHHAHAAAHHHAHAHA!
(that was a joke.....right?)
No still working on some of it. LOL
last night I was still beading....so yes, it was rather tongue in cheek. ;)
We can always count on you for some levity, Doña. I'm not too worried about opening weekend...it's the second weekend that has me nervous.

Nervous? Do you think Nim will say no? ;) i've made Sidekick practice "I do" lol.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Vows such as " I do. . . . most of the time" are easier to keep MtE. Just sayin. ;D
Looking forward to this adventure/event. ;D
I am still working on my garb. I am hoping it will be done by friday. After that I won't have any time to work on it because of my jab.
I'm thinking of just saying "I Did!"
