The PP asked for a new outfit for TRF this fall. He and the fuzzlet are to have complementry outfits to wear come halloween. (YEs we have turned into those people. ;D)
The PP wants the clockwork outfit from the Dr. Who episode "The Girl in the Fireplace". I've done all the research and I'm ready to pattern draft, but I'm trying to decide which pattern to use as a base. I've got the Simplicity POTC coat pattern. I've got the butterick colonial coat pattern. I've also got some nice men's tailored coat patterns. I'm trying to decide if I should start with a basic suit coat pattern, or go with something that already has the 'swish' in it and just needs the tailoring done.
Thoughts?
Start with a basic coat pattern - it's easier to change something that hasn't been cut already.
When I was looking in my patterns last night I came across a historically accural german dragoons jacket pattern I bought back 15 years ago. I had never actually used it. I'm going to use it as a base and adjust it from there. It is actually pretty close to what the PP wants anyway. He has this intresting back he wants done on the coat so we will see what happens.
I can't wait to see the finished costume.. that episode is my absolute, to-die-for favorite as far as costuming. They did such a fantastic job with the costumes that I just drool every time I see see them.
I don't have nearly the sewing talent to tackle such a project, your hubby is a lucky man!
I rarely get to make things for myself but the PP gets al kinds of cool stuff and our daughter won't have a problem looking cute at faire or any school project that is for sure.
If you saw my other posts, the PP wants me to make her a little Madame pompador dress to go with his outfit.

I have nothing helpful to add to your inquiry. I just wanted to tack on that this was one of my favorite episodes. I did a female version for Halloween, and wish I'd done the male version for myself. So much taffeta....
