I am so excited! I can't wait until 5, when I can pick up my new-to-me sewing machine!
I went to Goodwill on my lunch break, to see if they had any wood trays for my son's graduation party. Instead, I walked out the proud owner of a Singer Futura II Model 920 sewing machine, in cabinet. It even has the professional buttonholer attachment, with all the cams, including... drumroll.... the EYELET cam!!!!!! It's got a zillion feet, including 2 walking feet, decorative stitch cams, extra foot plates, a bajillion bobbins, needles new in the package, and tons of goodies I haven't sorted out yet. I'm hoping the machine still works, but since Goodwill has a policy of testing everything before it goes to the floor, I'm sure it at least turns on and sews. I'm going to give it a good cleaning and oiling at home, and check over the power cord carefully before trying it out. Soooo glad I don't have to be at the theater tonight!!!!!
I have no idea where it is going to go in my sewing room. Honestly, I didn't give it much of a thought once I saw the bag full of dressmaking accessories, and the price... Ohhh the price....
Wait for it....
I paid $9.99. $9.99!!!!!!!!! ;D :D ;D :D ;D
They usually have the empty cabinets, in worse condition, priced at least $19.99. I love whoever did the pricing yesterday!!!!!!
Anyway, I had to come here and squee, because I knew you folks would understand!!!!!
As soon as I get it working, I'm going to practice eyelets like crazy, as I have two bodices to make!
(okay, I'll shut up now!)
BONANZA!!!
HUZZAH!!!!!! :D
What a find!
WOOT, WOOT!!!!
Total jealousy.... ;D
I see that BONANZA HUZZAH WOOT WOOT, and raise it with a WOWZY!!

You must be from the South! ;)
Kudos Rosalind! It's such a rush to find a bargain--but that is the find of the century! Let us know how it works out *crossing fingers for you*
It works!!!!!!!!!
I just sewed a simple straight stitch on two layers of knit fabric, and the tension is perfect, stitches are even, and it hummed along nicely. Not really taxing or anything, it's just that there was a knit needle in it already, and I was too tired to search out a normal one. The bobbin winder works (LOVE that you don't have to unthread the machine to wind the bobbin), everything lights up that is supposed to light up, and no smoke! I haven't tried the buttonholer or fancy stitch cams yet, as I am exhausted. I probably won't get a chance to play with it again until Saturday morning (shows Friday and Saturday night at the theater - I'm in the cast this time).
I did clean the bobbin area and the feed dogs (the whole plate lifts up to allow access), and pulled out a ton of lint. It has two speed settings, fast and slow, and it starts out slower before picking up speed. I need to replace the spongey disks that were on the thread thing before seriously using it - I'm already trying to pick what color of wool felt from my stash to use. I'll be pouring over the manual tomorrow, I'm sure. I may keep it in the cabinet after all, as it would be nice to have the support arm for gowns. The free arm is at the front of the machine, and there is a panel in the back that drops down, so I can use the free arm even when it's in the cabinet.
Whoever had used to own this took good care of it. It's crazy that it was only $9.99. I can only think they looked at the dust from it being in storage, and thought it was junk. Oh well, their loss, my gain! ;D
Huzzah!
A double HUZZAH!
That is wonderful for you. ;D I am jelous.
Maybe they ment to put 99.99 instead put 9.99. I have heard of that being done a few times during the old manual sticker days. A friend of mine got a baseball card for 9.99 because the 5 of the the 59.99 didn't print well.
It was actually printed $9.99, with the dollar sign in the right place! I think the person just thought it was an old sewing machine, and figured no one would want it. I saw the price on the cabinet, and opened it to see if there was actually a machine inside. When I saw that there was, and that it had a big ziplock with a bunch of stuff in it, I got mildly excited. When I saw everything that was in the bag, I got super excited, and dashed to the front to pay!
Thats a totally awesome score.
Can't wait to see what you create with it.
WOW!!! Congrats on an awesome find!! So glad it works!! :D ;D :o
Yay!!! Congrats on the new (to you) machine. Cant wait to see what you create.
