Post by: Baron Frederick on May 11, 2012, 04:18:22 PM
I was wondering where was a good place to buy some costume jewelry ring to wear with my garb, not a noble, just upper class. Something under $35.00 . I found one place that had two words in it's title and the second part was ( and Sage  ) but can't find it now ,any suggestions

I think you are thinking of Sapphire and Sage. I tried getting the link but it seems to be down, at least from here. I'd recommend trying places like Sears department store or Walmart. They usually have some good costume jewelry rings for $15 or less that can work.

I second trying a department store or the like.  I've gotten quite a few items at Forever 21 or Target.

I love Etsy's vintage jewelry section. Search for renaissance or medieval and you can find some lovely pieces for very reasonable prices. I'm working on a pirate persona this year and picked up all my "stolen treasure" there.

I've gotten some pretty neat pieces fromt he Chinese "Trading Company" accessory stores around here as well.  They even have some sterling silver rings that aren't too expensive...  The places I've gone are "ABC Trading Co." or "Amkor Trading Co."....I'm sure there are a lot more.  Also, Pyramid Collection online has some great stuff...a little more expensive, but again, sterling, so it will last (and not green up your finger, LOL!).

Our local Walmart has a section of costume jewelry rings, all for around $10.  Several of them do look Renaissance-y, and my friends and I have purchased a some for use at faire.  I never looked to see if they had men's styles, but it'w worth a look if you are nearby a Walmart.

I'm a big fan of Kohl's and JCPenny for my Fest rings.  =)

Don't forget Gordman's 'hideous rings and brooches' table, nearly always located in front of the Jewelry section.   I found some of my best pirate hat brooches there.  Best to check back every week.
On Friday, I found a set of 3 very period looking gold metal and pearl stacking rings that could be worm by either sex for $5.99 and a chunky gold colored ring in choice of onyx or pearl cabochon shaped stone for hubby for $9.00.

If you have the time, Baron Frederick, Garage  and Rummage Sales, Goodwill, Salvation Army Stores, Antique shops,  etc. I am always on the lookout for that stuff for hats and to add to garb..

Be specific as to what you are looking for and youn will find it.

Claire's and the Icing, which can be found in most malls, are my favorite place to buy costume jewelry for faire (or really any costume). They cater to a younger crowd, and so almost always have sales running.
