Title: Uniform Jacket Pattern suggestions Please?
Post by: amy on July 06, 2012, 01:11:28 PM
Hi all!    I am going to attempt a military uniform jacket for a friend of mine.  He is a big man and wears a suit coat size 50 long.   I have exact measurements to work from, and will have 1 or 2 chances to fit on him directly, but..... To save time and energy I wonder if any of you have a favorite jacket pattern to use as a jumping off point.    The style will be 1800s, center front closure with miles of braid on the chest and sleeves.   Think Phantom Masquerade Raoul!   Waist length and brass buttons gallore.     Any one tried the Burda "Napoleon" jacket?   Note:   this is a fantasy costume...  no need to preach HA on this one... It's for fun and looks.

P.S.   Anyone used an Abrahams Lady pattern?

I think the Period Impression 1812 Officer's Coatee Pattern, no 773 is the best one if you don't want to draft it yourself from a tailor's pattern book.

Thank you Kate.  Kind of you!  I'll check it out.

**later that morning**
Very nice to learn that was the same set of patterns I was looking at with a mistake in the name calling them Abraham's Lady.  Didn't realize that was the site and not the pattern company.      Anyone done the 715 jacket.   I think that would be splendid!

I've used the boy's one a couple of times: worked splendidly.

I had one drafted from a book for this adventure:

Thank you.  They were a lot of fun to do.  The kids ones turned out like this:

Oh that looks good too...  Any advice on the workability of that pattern?     Is it a thumbs up pattern?

Thank you for the post!!!
